Which 3 ladies will qualify for the 2019 GPF, joining (most likely) Trusova, Kostornaia & Shcherbakova?

Qualified: Anna SHCHERBAKOVA RUS 15 (227.76) + 15 (226.04) = 30 (453.80)

Alexandra TRUSOVA RUS 15 (241.02) - next: Rostelecom Cup
Alena KOSTORNAIA RUS 15 (236.00) - next: NHK Trophy

Rika KIHIRA JPN 13 (230.33) - next: NHK Trophy
Alina ZAGITOVA RUS 13 (216.06) - next: NHK Trophy
Satoko MIYAHARA JPN 13 (211.18) - next: Rostelecom Cup
My guess is that your top six as listed, will be at the Grand Prix final. If the bottom 3 listed get a silver.(?) But there could be surprises. This is figure skating, and it will be interesting to see how it all lines up for the final.

Tennell's only real likely shot of making the Final at this point is if the results of Russia are Trusova, Medvedeva, Bell, and Miyahara in that exact order and Satoko having a similar or lower-scoring week than she did in China.

That is her only shot, but it's not exactly an implausible scenario.

There's always Zagitova finishing 4th or lower in Japan behind Kostornaia, Kihira, and a wildcard like Lim or Samodurova. She's not that far ahead on overall points right now versus Bradie (Alina scored 216 in France, would still need 211.40 in Japan).

Correct. I did the research as soon as CoC ended, and thats the scenario I came up with.

Wild card is how Zag competes.

BTW why did they change it so she does jumps in the first half now?

Did the rules change or something?

The 10% bonus only applies to the last 3 jumps in the free skate, and last jump in the short program, so doing them all in the 2nd half of the program isn't worth the risk any more.

Wouldn't Tennell qualify as long as Satoko is 4th and specifically has a score lower than 216? That was Bradie's score at SA. They both achieved 211 at one event.

Also, a less likely but still possible outcome is Mariah finished 2nd to Trusova and makes the final, no? She has scores that are competitive w/ Satoko this season.

An even more remote possibility is Medvedeva winning, but she would need Mariah to finish 3rd and Satoko 4th to go to the GPF

I just wanted to put this somewhere...looking to next season, these skaters if still competing will likely get at least one (based on SB list)

RUS- Trusova, Kostornaia, Shcherbakova, Medvedeva, Zagitova, Sinitsyna, Tuktamysheva, Vasilieva, and Tarakanova/Samodurova. (Valieva, Usacheva, Khromykh will still be JGP)

JPN- Kihira, Miyahara, Sakamoto, Matsuike, Yokoi

USA- Tennell, Bell, Glenn. (Liu still JGP)

KOR- Young You, Eunsoo Lim, Yelim Kim, Hanul Kim. (Haein and S. Wi still JGP)

I think Kihira will probably make it. Zagitova has a good chance. I think Miyahara or Tennel will get the last spot.

And both Kosternaia and Kihira have triple axel. Zagitova could be third.
IMHO, if Kosternaia and Kihira both hit all their 3As, Kosternaia will win based on PCS scores and Kihira takes silver. But, if either makes a mistake, than Zagitova could slip past them. It's going to be very interesting to see if experience plays a role in nerves. This is probably the least lop sided event in the GP series for the ladies.

^Mariah could make it, even if unlikely: She would have to get 2nd outright, but that probably means really subpar performances by Med and UR calls on Satoko, while Mariah performs foot-perfect.
Anything is possible. One can hope she does her best but of course, I don't hope for mistakes by others.

We'll also have to see what content Rika includes... Has she healed enough to include 3Lz? Will she attempt the 4S? Until we know it's hard to predict the podium for me!

If I did my math correctly...

Alexandra T. 15 (241.02) + 15 (234.47) = 30 (475.49)
Anna S. 15 (227.76) + 15 (226.04) = 30 (453.80)
Alena K. 15 (236.00) NHK Trophy next week
Rika K. 13 (230.33) NHK Trophy next week
Alina Z. 13 (216.06) NHK Trophy next week
Bradie 13 (216.14) + 9 (211.31) = 22 (427.45)

Satoko 13 (211.18) + 9 (192.42) = 22 (403.60)
Mariah 11 (212.89) + 11 (205.67) = 22 (418.56)
Liza T. 11 + 11 = 22 (415.07)
Evgenia 7 (209.62) + 13 (225.76) = 20 (435.38)
Young YOU 11 + 9 = 20 (409.30)

As I mentioned in another thread... For fun, I sat down and planned out France, China and Rostelecom after SC. I wanted to see how Bradie could make the GPF with also factoring in NHK. I cant believe it.

To do this there was a way.... The top 4 of the last 3 events bascically had to finish in the exact way that they just did.... and thats how I got Bradie into the GPF!

I wonder if she will send me a thank you basket.

Bardie got home cooking score at SA
but Tuk messing up at CoC and Satoko popping and falling at CoR didnt help
I'm not saying it's undeserved, I'm saying I'd rather watch any of those other ladies more than Tennell who I find boring tbh.
I'm still :fragile: about Kaori's performances this year, too.

Ohhhh geesh, sour grapes out in full force already. The usual suspects didnt make the GPF, how dare someone who improved 1000% over the summer.

Tough cookies!!!!! she skated awesome..and also was credited with a 3/2 instead of the second 3lutz/3toe at SkAm (where ALL THIS homecooking went down, LMAO) and still made the Final.

Home cooking????, She wuz down right mugged and Robbed even at her home event. Your interpretation is definitely one for Kelly-Ann Conway.

lol, Tennell over current Satoko and carrots? #sourgrapes, we've seen the usual suspects in the GPF for years... wow some new faces... the horror!

What? No Tuk? Well, she would have to hire a choreographer to make the final these days. Skating then posing is cool but not Final worthy.

Not sorry today.

agreed, she got lucky that Satoko, Tuk both had bad outings on their second events
Medvedeva deserve that spot though had she skated in SC like at CoR, judges still reward her PCS like that.

You like Bradie, I find her boring  She deserves to be at the GPF; I can wish others were there instead because I prefer to watch them.

And I hope Mariah can beat her at US Nationals :angryfire

:fragile:

I'd much rather see Mariah or Satoko at the final.
Or Evgenia or You or Tuk for that matter.

I luv ya @oleada, but Young You??? Jumps have a huge wow factor, but I have rarely seen a bigger disconnect between the music and the performer, and her money jump isn't always there. I get she is an up and coming skater, but Bradie is more pleasant than Young You as an overall performer (to me).

---------

I came here expecting a little more love for Bradie. :yikes:

But I'm seeing a lot of 'she got lucky' or 'if only skater x had done this' or 'home cooking' (which happens for almost any top skater performing at home, @love_skate2011, don't get me started on Sochi). I can go back in history and say 'if only Ashley and Gracie laid it down in the SP at 2015 Worlds, I wouldn't have had to see boring, unextended Radionova on the podium', just as an example.

Let's appreciate this moment for Bradie and not forget her score should've been higher at SA. TAT herself called her 'mochnaya'. :respec:

Love her since her Pirates LP in juniors. I think her SP is a winner, but the LP is a huge disappointment. I don’t think she is a bad performer; I don’t think the LP suits her style.

I know that feeling. I think I'm the only person who likes the 4As and am thrilled that it looks like all will make the GPF. :drama: But, then there are a lot of popular skaters I'm totally ambivalent about so it evens out. Plus, you like who you like.
