All. We are all addicted. Particularly in this forum - see all the threads at the end of the season. I'm addicted to the smell of the ice,to the beat of the music, to the emotions of the audience and one of the most addicting experiences that I keep repeating is being part of the audience.
Just some of our addictions are harmless. Some less so, but we all want the emotional triggers (and dark chocolate)

The news outlets compete for their audience and provide what we want. The terrorists have to overcome the autrocities of the previous ones if they want to make it to the news - just firing the rockets does not excite anyone anymore (as I type this message at least 6 villages in Jerusalem area are being bombed, but who cares, right?) so they become more horrible, the pictures are even more bloody and we get our triggers. Betweem all that checking the facts becomes kinda redundant - if they don't publish the horrors first someone else will and they'll become irrelevant.

A lot of this is true, for a lot of people but there are many (like those on fsu and elsewhere) that prefer finding the truth, and are willing to wait for it. Journalism needs to cater to the latter, and kind of 'starve' those who go for the sensational.

Addictions are rarely harmless. It is just that most of our addictions harm us, but not others. We all seek pleasures and recoil from the unpleasant (like pain). One can train one's mind to be balanced so that we don't have blind reactions to the sensations. So we can truly enjoy things like music, arts, and not always overreact to the unpleasant. The extremists are addicted to hatred, I think, They just can't let go of it because they get sadistic pleasure out of it. It may not be always to even for their religion. JMO.

I have tremendous respect for journalists that go into war zones to bring us news. Anderson Cooper and Kaitlan Collins are in Israel, giving us news. Ali Velshi was in Israel earlier. So are many others. I admire their courage.

Kaitlan interviewed the parents of a young man being held hostage by Hamas. The mother became quite emotional toward the end, and after the interview Kaitlan appeared emotional too. It was good to see her show emotion. Usually I find her bland. She is smiling while talking to the rabbi of Natalie and Judith R. I would like her to show her human side more often, just like she did tonight.

Mean while in our `progressive' country: an officer was killed in the battle in one of the Kibuttsez last Sunday. He was supposed to get married on Friday. The army does not recognize his was-supposed-to-be spose and he has to get the information though the officer's parents. Why? Well, because the officer was about to marry a man and not a woman. So their 6 years of living together and the wedding date are nothing, because, well, he has a wrong body part.
The officer was good enough to be an officer, to risk his life and to die, but his beloved will be treated as some random dude as far as the country is concered.

This is unfortunately par for the course for non-married military folks. There's an NGO for girlfriends left behind because they needed support that they weren't getting through official channels.

I do have a PhD but that's irrelevant, as is the (potential) PhD of that student. He should be expelled from the program for falsifying information to this extent. If he cannot understand what is visually obvious, how can he analyze any information?

I see this university is located in Hamilton, Canada. Curious to see how Canadians react to this? Also curious about the ethnicity of this student.

I remember that after 9/11 there were conspiracy theories in the USA that our own govt was responsible for this heinous act.

I'm so sorry for all of the FSU Israelis. All of you are connected to someone who either died on the 7th or is in danger now. It is stressful and there is nothing anybody can do to make it less so.

It is actually the female and she is Palestinian. I would say it is a polarizing issue in Canada but I also haven’t watched a lot of Cdn news. Tomorrow there is another protest at Parliament.

Congrats on having your PhD = super smart!

The case made it to the government, where they chewed their lips, said a couple of words, made a sad face and done nothing.

Thanks but my PhD was long ago and I am not super smart; just persistent. Further, PhD just means expertise in one small area. I can still express my opinions on anything, of course. LOL.

Just read this article. Thank you for sharing.

They have Added a small update, about Biden asking Israel to not act out of rage, and he recommends thinking 3 steps ahead (paraphrasing). I think Biden is the voice of reason, but will the Israeli govt and IDF listen? I am afraid not. Intense emotions are hard to control. I understand How they feel and I totally sympathize with them, but in the end I want what is best in their long term interest. I am sure they (the citizens) would prefer peace as a long term solution.

As Friedman wrote in this article, their focus should be bringing back the hostages, rather than enter Gaza right now and destroy Hamas. It could escalate, with Iran's proxies. The world cannot afford a full scale war in the region, with the involvement of bigger powers (USA,Russia, Iran). The world is in a precarious situation.

I don’t agree with you on that specifically the super smart thing. You are. I only listened to about 20 seconds of that video and I was done. I am not a PhD intelligent enough person.

i’m just very, very sad about what was has and continues to happen 😔.

Degrees don't make anyone more intelligent.

I am also very sad about what has happened and sadder that the situation appears to be getting worse. I hope I am wrong about this.
