I may be searching too hard for an explanation, but I thought the use of the word lost was a reference to the fact that the child was believed dead until late October.

The Taoiseach and those of us in Ireland are fully aware of that. Rather than concentrating on that phrase it might be worthwhile reading the Taoiseach's entire statement on the release of Emily who thankfully is now safe back home with her family after surviving an ordeal no child should have to go through.

He most definitely could formulate his tweet differently. And I was not the only one who noticed how he chose his wording.
In the world where we suddenly "exchange hostages" every single word counts.
