I'm still in a thousand depressions over the loss of Denis Ten. What a beautiful spirit. I've always felt he was a wise old man in a young man's body. Denis' beautiful artistry and his kind soul will remain in my heart forever. Whenever I think of the great skaters who have graced this sport, Denis will be among those at the top of the list.

Hopefully, Denis' fighting spirit, his gorgeous skating, and his dedication to a sublime and passionate artistic vision will be inspiring for many skaters to overcome their challenges and to skate fully for themselves, regardless of the judges' limited and constricted decisions.

The overwhelming sadness I continue to feel about this event includes an include awareness that life can be snuffed out in the blink of an eye. We really only ever have the moment at hand.

I am 'somewhat' comforted by the knowledge that Denis Ten was an amazing artist and athlete who contributed to figure skating in a unique way. I tend to forget programs over the years, but his 'Artist' themed SP/LP are two I will never forget - such a unique and well-executed concept.

Denis did lead a full life in that he did what he loved and did it well, and was an ambassador for figure skating in his country. He will be remembered by many - whereas so many deaths go unnoticed, unrememberd, and unmourned.

RIP Denis Ten.

Another person spoke up against Denis' murderers: https://www.nur.kz/1743521-predpolagaemyh-ubijc-denisa-tena-opoznali-i-drugie-postradavsie.html
Apparently they already assaulted his friend's brother a few months ago and wanted to steal his phone and when he defended himself they also stabbed him in the thigh and the police did absolutely nothing about it.
The former victim and his family have gone to the police again to testify against these assholes again.

So if this account is true they should not have been on the streets to rob and murder Denis Ten. The police and justice system will have a lot to answer for.

Yep, everyone in Kazakhstan is demanding an explanation since it also turned out one of the two had stolen mirrors from a car in Astana 8 days before the attack and got caught. He had to be in court the day Denis passed away, but he escaped. He had signed a paper that he would not leave Astana and they let him go. He left the city anyway without anybody caring about it and ended up in Almaty again by this fateful day.

ETA: Several Kazakh mourners have also said that maybe Denis' death is the one of a martyr and that it is probably going to change several things within the country that have been going wrong for such a long time. Many are demanding the resignation of several politicians and other people in power because the country Denis loved so much was not able to save him.

... there are talks about replacing the current Chief of Police. People claiming that his department was very negligent in handling street crime and theft. In youtube people are posting many videos of street crime in the middle of the day in Alma Ata, from autos, to car parts, to phones, to property robberies.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t4N5qRNFSw
One of the problems is that even when theft or minor robbery is recorded on video and suspect is identified, when turned over to Police, no action is taken...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBb9PNVTqog

They only go after big crime rings, AND more likely when the "crime ring" hit on someone "important".

I don’t know if this was posted before. A translation of Tatsuki Machida’s comments and memories of Denis: http://tatsuki-machida.tumblr.com/p...kater-denis-ten/amp?__twitter_impression=true

A beautiful performance from Denis. It made me tear up.:cry:

And a lovely tribute from Machida. He quickly became my new favorite man during the time he competed, and I've not found anyone I like as much as him since. An class act on the ice, and a class act in remembering Denis.

Skating Fans, I received this direct message from my friend Mary Wehmeier this morning.

Pete, I spoke with the Honorary Counsel General for Kazakhstan here in LA over the weekend. Here’s her message you may want to spread the word to clubs and groups who want to do memory or guest books for Denis Ten.

“Hi, just got a reply from our consul at the embassy. Please forward the book or cards and letters onto The Family of Denis Ten In care of: Mr. Timur Orazov (Consul) Embassy of Kazakhstan 1401 16th street NW Washington DC .Thank you again for your kind hearts!”

Another Kazakh celebrity, a former member of the KVN (something like a comedy competition) team from Aktobe, was murdered almost exactly like Denis Saturday night. He was stabbed in the right thigh in a bar and the doctors couldn't save him either.

This is crazy. At first I thought surely it was an accident that Denis was killed, as opposed to just attacked. But now we know of three recent stabbings in the right thigh. It is hard not to believe they were going for the artery with the intent to kill.

Alexei Yagudin gave a speech in Denis honour and asked the audience for a moment of silence before today’s Romeo&Juliet show in Sochi

Supremely classy man.

Oh, it's not about trying to be classy...

If Yagudin tried to be classy and polite now, it is likely that he wouldn't have to see and to say, that "f*ing babblers write all kinds of sh**" in the comments to his first post about Denis.
Yet of course, Yagudin didn't swear, when he was telling about Denis to the audience before their ice theatrical:
Good evening everyone. Thank you very much, that you are our guests today. Before we will start our theatrical, we ask for a minute of your attention. We all know fully well, that we live and, actually, never know what can happen tomorrow. Yesterday in Almaty, in Kazakhstan, Denis Ten came to a tragic end, the bronze medalist of the Olympics which took place here in Sochi. I guess one could say many words about this athlete, but I guess we have lost a person - first of all. All the figure skaters who knew him, always noted his kindness and sincerity, because he was such a person indeed. We all know fully well, that perfect people don't exist, but he is a bright example which shows one can be almost perfect. With your permission we would like to honour memory of our young brother and hold a moment of silence. Thank you. ... Thank you.

(2 parts, because a video in instagram should be short)

Yagudin says he looked for flights to Kazakhstan, but he didn't find an oppurtunity to make it without skipping a theatrical (he has nobody to replace him). I believe he would use any opportunity (because people reading about his plans sometimes ask him when he is going to sleep).
He says he and Totmianina are going to see Ten's parents later.
He says he used to spend much time with Ten's mom, when he visited Kazakhstan (not now).

this is what I know about their friendship:

Some asshole who later on turned out to be a teacher has posted disgusting things in his instagram story about the murder of Denis Ten, supporting the act and even congratulating the murderers. The authorities are after him and after an apology which he also posted on social media but did not give an impression of remorse, he even said he would accept a firing from his job. Whether or not he is going to be fired will be clear after the summer holidays which end on 12th August. https://www.nur.kz/1743687-ucitel-i...sa-tena-policia-vozbudila-ugolovnoe-delo.html

Of course as soon as he published his instagram story (I have no idea what the text said since it was in Kazakh) tons of fans and mourners have reported him which led to him being arrested. He is awaiting trial now.

WHAT KIND OF WORLD ARE WE LIVING IN?! This is beyond disgusting and incomprehensible.

What he did was disgusting, but what would the crime be?
I can't speak for Kazakhstan, but stuff like that would be labelled as "hatespeech" under German law and there would be consequences.

That guy is a teacher, his job is to raise, teach and educate children and young people. Someone who has such opinions or does something like he did should not be given such an important job since teachers are highly influential. I guess he will have to resign from his job.

ETA: Apparently he made some racist remarks.

Same in France : "incitation à la haine raciale". You can be sentenced up to 1 year in jail + a fine of € 45.000. I hope this man will never be allowed in any school again.

That teacher lost his job. The parents of his pupils have declared they don't want someone like him around their kids anymore ( https://www.nur.kz/1743752-pohvalivsij-ubijc-denisa-tena-ucitel-gotov-uvolitsa-iz-skoly.html ).

More details about the murderers have been released: apparently several Almaty residents have recognized Kudaibergenov as their attacker ( https://www.nur.kz/1743784-podozrev...vinili-v-napadeniah-na-drugih-almatincev.html ) and both have been caught at least 3 times stealing car mirrors ( https://www.nur.kz/1743884-mvd-podo...a-tena-trizdy-privlekali-za-krazu-zerkal.html ). It is also said that the behavior of the Kazakh people supports car mirror theft since they always buy mirrors from the black market if their own get stolen ( https://www.nur.kz/1743851-ludi-ze-pokupaut-v-mvd-zaavili-cto-kazahstancy-poosraut-avtokrazi.html ). The police was also able to identify the car mirror dealers who worked with Denis' murderers ( https://www.nur.kz/1743858-skupsikov-zerkal-ot-lexus-denisa-tena-ustanovili-policejskie-almaty.html ).

More news: Kudaibergenov has shown the police where they hid the knife and Kiyasov, who at first said he didn't strike Denis and "just stood there and watched" admitted that he was the one to perform the deadly knife thrust. http://www.interfax.ru/world/622229

The knife will now be thoroughly examined by specialists in order to reconstruct the events that led to Denis' untimely death.
