Linz entries as expected.

Some nice rematches at Lake Placid with, for example, Flores/Desyatov and Wolfkostin/Tsarevski going head-to-head again.

Anyone have entries for Silicon Valley Open?

Very much as expected with the Linz entries. I'd guess Carhart/Horovyi and Bland/Sperry are penciled in for Istanbul. After that, it's going to be really interesting to see which teams are assigned to the last 4 JGPs. I hope the USFS is thinking strategically about those assignments - especially seeing how stacked the Linz field is.

I agree that Carhart/Horovyi seem like a logical choice for Istanbul but for the second spot there are also the new teams of Lavrova/Rogers and Pedersen/Chen, who both beat the Mullens in Dallas (although it was very close), to consider. Perhaps the Lake Placid results will come into play. I was surprised that neither of these new teams were listed as subs for Linz and I wonder what the logic was.

Lyrically, the change from “Love is a Battlefield” to “Call Me” perplexed me in the RD for Wolfkostin/Tsarevski. I wonder if they realize “Call Me” was written for the movie American Gigolo. They should try and incorporate some of the dance moves from the Love is a Battlefield music video into their program, and maybe use another Pat Benatar song like “Invincible” instead of Call Me. They have meshed really well for a new team.

With the RD for Flores/Desyatov, I feel like they should drop “When Doves Cry” and replace it with a hard rock/metal song to fit better with “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” Maybe something like Lita Ford’s “Kiss Me Deadly.” Also, costume wise, she should try channeling Kelly Bundy from Married with Children. Can’t wait to see how they evolve further this season now that they can compete internationally.

JGP Osaka and Lombardia Trophy entries are out!

Surprising assignments for JGP Osaka - Neset/Markelov and the Mullens are each assigned to their 2nd JGP while we wait for Carhart/Horovyi and Lavrova/Rogers to get a 1st assignment.

For Lombardia - we get the season debuts of two MIDA teams - Bratti/Somerville and Green/Parsons.

JGP Osaka assignments not yet confirmed on USFS assessments page.

Hauer/Starr withdrew from JGP#1! Hope they are replaced there.
You must have typed this while they were updating... Interesting that the Mullens aren't listed as assigned to Osaka on the USFS page - I have to wonder if the USFS is reconsidering them for that assignment given the overall strength of that field and the Mullens coming on strong at LPIDI.

Surprising about Hauer/Starr! I'd be very surprised if they aren't replaced.

JGP Bangkok substitutes from the ISU entries page -
Kristina BLAND / Matthew SPERRY USA 10 S
Helena CARHART / Volodymyr HOROVYI USA 10 S
Julia EPPS / Blake GILMAN USA 10 S
Olivia ILIN / Dylan CAIN USA 10 S
Elliana PEAL / Ethan PEAL USA 10 S

The Peals aren't all that likely since they're assigned to Linz the next week. Leading options would be Carhart/Horovyi and Ilin/Cain, IMO.

ETA - the Mullens are now also confirmed for JGP Osaka on the USFS assignments page.

Also - Lavrova/Rogers are no longer listed on the ISP. Hmmmm...

👀 One (competition) and done, or has one of them discovered a small fed grandma?
as deep as US ice dance is... given that his last competition for the US last year was JGP Riga, which ended 9/10/23, small fed grandparents could make sense. Armenia has an ice dance slot in Budapest and Yerevan...

Ohhhhh, if only it was a small fed reason... Jonathan just posted on his IG story that Anya has decided to retire from skating for medical reasons and he is looking for a new partner.

Oh no I hope she didn’t get another concussion. 🙁

I don't know. I wonder how expensive it is to get tickets to Thailand last-minute. Since USFS is known for leaving dance spots empty, I could see them doing that here.

If they are replacing, I'd choose Ilin/Cain or Bland/Sperry who would be there for experience and wouldn't want to send one of the stronger teams like Carhart/Horovyi there last minute.

This is my worry too: that it’s too late/expensive to get tickets for a new team and their coach.

Fingers crossed USFS will be able to make it work. The long flight to Asia and major jet lag would be good training/practice for Ilin/Cain ahead of the Youth Olympics

On another note, I wonder how realistic it is for Hauer/Starr to be ready for Istanbul two weeks after Bangkok. Unless it’s some sort of illness that will be resolved quickly, this doesn’t seem too likely to me.

I would be shocked if the USFS doesn't have a travel partnership/relationship with Delta through the USOPC or some other major airline. The bigger challenge in this short of notice is not in the cost for changing the already booked airline tickets for Hauer/Starr & their coach to another team & coach but instead in ensuring they are able to obtain the necessary travel visas to enter Thailand.

Good to know that travel to Thailand should be relatively straightforward and simple provided the schedules work and a replacement team is named.

Knowing that Lavrova/Rogers are no more, I have to agree with @Stephanie that the better option for a replacementin Bangkok, mostly for experience, would be Ilin/Cain, if they're up for it.

I am also worried about Hauer/Starr, not to mention Carhart/Horovyi, and whether or not either team is dealing with some sort of issue that would mean they're not ready yet. There is still plenty of time and spots available to get them to 2 JGPs, even if HauSta have to WD from Istanbul too.

Carhart/Horovyii looked competition ready at Lake Placid two weeks ago. They weren’t at their best, but they’re certainly ready for JGPs, so unless they suffered a minor injury lately (or USFS is having visa problems for him), they should be good to go.

As I said before, I don't know why either should have been assigned to go compete with Neset & Markelov in the first place. We never send our top three to go compete against each other, and there was no good reason to do it in Bangkok. Send Ilin & Cain.

Green & Parsons are assigned to Lombardia.

This is the smart assignment, IMO. G&P need to compete early so they will be ready for SA, and there's no reason to go overcrowd the Autumn Classic.

ETA: Bratti & Somerville are assigned to Lombardia also. Fingers crossed that whatever led to their not competing this summer is simply a matter of needing more preparation & that they will be good for Lombardia.

Autumn Classic assignments are out - US has assigned Pate/Bye and Wolfkostin/Tsarevski. They're the only two non-IAM teams on the roster, lol.

Surprised that they haven’t sent Zingas/Kolesnik to Autumn Classic seeing as Pate/Bye will be there so less travel for Shpilband. Z/K are at Skate Canada so I assumed they’d get one of the earliest challengers.

Also surprised the Browns haven’t been given either event so far. Are they using the challengers to help determine the SkAm spot or will that be decided at champs camp?

IIRC there was a mini competition last year at Champs Camp for the remaining TBD spots. People often figure out who's contending for it based on who shows up in social media photos. I feel like sometimes the dance spot gets assigned earlier, though, if there's a clear leader after Lake Placid.

When is Champs Camp?
