YouTube has several TV movies about true crime cases. I'll omit giving a direct link to them here because of some FSUers getting upset by the gory details. And I'll skip the out-and-out gory cases, and just mention the ones that stand out for various reasons of jurisprudence and justice.

The Hunt For The Unicorn Killer : Ira Einhorn's murder of his ex-girlfriend Holly Maddox should have been an open-and-shut case, but his 'celebrity' status had numerous influential people (including socialite Barbara Bronfman) standing behind him until his skipping bail, and international extradition procedures resulted in him being on the lamb for over 20 years before finally being brought to trial.

The Siege At Ruby Ridge : Randy Weaver was a white-separatist involved in an 11 day standoff with the FBI. The Feds clearly violated Rules Of Engagement, resulting in the deaths of Weaver's wife and son, before mediator Bo Gritz got Weaver to surrender.

They've Taken Our Children , about the 1976 kidnapping of 26 school children and their bus driver. Good ending that all the kids and driver freed themselves to safety, the kidnappers were caught and served time. The motive was so hairbrained, especially since the kids could have met a horrible and fatal ending.

I stumbled on the below randomly and it grabbed my attention and broke my heart. It was hard to read but gripping. The murders also occurred close to home for me and it was so disturbing to read about the events that took place in areas I'm so familiar with. So many missed opportunities to have captured the perpetrator, I found part 1 particulary heartbreaking. Warning, it is graphic in relaying some details.

The 1976 rescue of the 260 occupants of the Air France Airbus that was hijacked, has been dramatized in 4 movies (I've seen all):

Raid On Entebbe Starring Peter Finch and Charles Bronson
Victory At Entebbe Starring Burt Lancaster , Anthony Hopkins and Elizabeth Taylor
Operation Thunderbolt Starring Klaus Kinski and Sybil Danning
7 Days In Entebbe Released in 2018

Historical note: Military Commando Yoni Netenyahu, who was killed in the rescue, was the older brother of Benjamin.

For anyone who remembers the 'Satanic Panic' frenzy that swept North America in the 1980s, this case deserves inclusion because of the staggering number of charges in this, and scores of other cases, and the fact that after all this, there was never a proven case of 'Satanic Ritual Abuse' anywhere! The case was dramatized in an HBO movie, but because of the couple of scenes containing nudity, and the prevalence of profanity, I'll refrain from giving a direct link. Just go to YouTube, and search for: Indictment: The McMartin Trials , where at first 7 (soon whittled down to 2) operators of the McMartin Preschool Daycare Center were charged with hundreds of acts of abusing children, and all were acquitted.

Saw a YouTube vid about this case. The murder of children is terrible enough but those two beautiful little angels were brutalized and murdered by their father. The police really dropped the ball. DNA evidence cracked the case 42 years after the fact. Rest in peace little Karen and Gordon.

Occasionally I watch Dateline on Saturday night on msnbc. Sometimes the stories are gripping.

Last night I happenedto turn to Dateline, which toldthe stories of two (plus one) mothers and two sons. One of them was son of Indian immigrants who lived in Chicago. The other was Caucasian. Both were college students at S. Illinois university in Carbondale, IL.

The Indian American 19 year old Pravin went missing. Four days later his body was found in the woods. The temperature was 14 deg F and the coroner concluded he died from hypothermia. They also assumed that he got drunk at a party that night and wandered into the woods.

His mother Lovely, who was a nurse, did not believe it. There we're inconsistencies. She was befriended by a radio announcer Monica. Together they found out that there were injuries but no alcohol in the system. The police had tried to blame the youth for his death. Investigation by the mother and the victim's cousin identified another young man G, who had given a ride to Pravin after the party and they got into a fight. G changed his story many times. Later charges were brought and a jury of12 convicted him of causing the death of Pravin.

Oddly it was not the end. A judge granted a new trial and the convicted man was freed. It did not seem fair. The grieving mother took the high road and said - Pravin's soul directed me to find out what had happened to him. The family (his parents and sister) was devastated but knowing what happened to him brought them closure.

Just watched on interesting video on this case. The disappearance of the Jack family remains Canada’s only case of an entire family disappearing. Unfortunately racism played a part in deciding how this case was handled by the police and even the media. Ronnie, Doreen, Ryan and Russell Jack disappeared on August 1 1989 after they got into a stranger’s car who had promised father Ronnie a job at a logging company. No trace of them have ever been found. Yet another tragedy associated with B.C.’s “Highway of Tears”.

Another case of note:
John List : Murdered his wife, mother and three kids in their New Jersey mansion, fled the scene and staged the place in a way that nobody investigated for almost a month. 17 years later, an America's Most Wanted depiction of the crime resulted in his capture in Virginia. Case was dramatized as 'Judgement Day: The John List Story', starring Robert Blake as List.

The 1995 murder of Tejano singer Selena (whose life story was covered in the biopic starring Jennifer Lopez) by her one-time friend Yolanda Salvidar is in the news again because of a new documentary "Selena And Yolanda, The Secrets Between Them", and the fact that she is up for parole next year. She claims that the firing of the gun that killed Selena was an accident, but has never explained why, if that were true, she - a registered nurse - did not try to help her.

Horrific murders in Ottawa last night. Only surviving victim is the father 4 children murdered and mom and another person. 19 year old suspect arrested and charged. All the victims were innocent.

A 2 1/2 month baby is the youngest 😔. A knife was used .. not a gun 😔

This sad but crime here in the Toronto area is getting really bad. Businesses are complaining about the increasing amount of break ins and robberies here too.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was, to the outside world, a very sickly child, suffering from chronic conditions including asthma, leukemia and muscular dystrophy. The daughter confined to a wheelchair, her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, paraded her to the world for sympathy, and the two were recipients of charities including Habitat For Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, and Make A Wish Foundation. Then in 2015, police discovered the body of Dee Dee in her Missouri home having been stabbed to death. A disturbing comment on Gypsy's Facebook page resulted in the arrest of her boyfriend Nicolas Godejohn, and Gypsy, standing and walking upright. Apparently it was Dee Dee who was chronically sick, a psychological disorder called Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy, where a caregiver invents, exaggerates or even inflicts illnesses on an infant in order to gain attention, sympathy or charity benefits, and Gypsy had to go along with the only life she knew, and couldn't escape from. The case was dramatized on Hulu in a miniseries called The Act (I haven't seen it, but saw a documentary on TV). Godejohn is still in jail, Gypsy has been paroled. While Dee Dee's murder can not be justified, the question remains, where were the authorities throughout this?

I thought I would post about this because it will be 27 years ago in April that my mom's best friend's sister disappeared. Her name was Syble Brumley. The investigation went on for a few years, but it was as if she vanished off the face of the earth. I was best friends with two of her granddaughters. Syble was well known in Mansfield, and had many friends.

There can be nothing worse than not knowing and what happened. There is no closure 😔😢

We have those sadly in Canada too 😔.

I can just imagine. They searched the area that was called the Dead Zone for quite a few years. I had always wondered if it was something that Syble knew or found out since she worked at the Sherrif's Dept. She worked there voluntarily for a couple of days a week.

I wasn't the only one that suspected that. But then, I knew three of the deputies that worked there including the Sherrif. I even went to high school with three of the deputies. It's sad to say, but I don't believe the family will ever have closure. :(

Today is the anniversary of my dad's murder. March 15, 1995.

It has never been solved.

That is sadly not unusual. The majority of murders in the US go unsolved.

However, the number of murders per 100k has declined significantly.
I am so sorry that you never had any closure regarding your dad. I know it must be hard at times. (((Hugs))).
