The Dance Hall 9: Bring the Bling or No Beijing 2021-2022

I think with H/D’s lift part of the risk is that they seem to have more nervous tension in their skating at the biggest events and the quality can come off a bit. So if the lift has to be done just right with regard to arm bend, sustained position etc to be within the rules, it feels like they’re more likely to miss that when it really counts.
Agreed.

A bit random but Denkova Staviski had some interesting lifts. Especially one in their Handel.
They really did but there were some lifts where I wondered what it had to do with the story they were telling. Some of them just seemed to be just acrobatic technical showcases to compete technically, which I appreciated on that level.

What is this is reference to?

Google translate:

MOSCOW, October 14. / TASS /. Russian figure skater Tiffany Zagorski, performing in ice dancing in a duet with Jonathan Gureiro, has been admitted to the infectious diseases hospital. This was reported to TASS by the coach of the duet Svetlana Alekseeva.

Get well soon, Tiffany!

Kaliszek & Spodyriev are entered in Mezzaluna Cup scheduled for next week

In the end, they withdrew.

Abachkina/Drozd were set to debut internationally at Ice Star in Minsk but they don't appear in the Starting Order anymore.

I see Yan Lukouski is one of the judges at Mezzaluna Cup this weekend. His last competition as skater was Egna 2019 (with Yuliia Zhata). He was literally skating against some of the current competitors. In a way he was fortunate that Belarus and Ukraine, the two countries he gravitates around, had a semi-regular season during the pandemic and thus gave the opportunity to accumulate the required service to be nominated for the international examination in a short time.

After a rapid check, I believe 4 couples managed to get a YYYY on key-points so far this season:

Marjorie Lajoie/ Zachary Lagha at Skate Canada (Rettstatt, Bowness, Gustafsson)
Anna Yanovskaya / Adam Lukacs at Nebelhorn Trophy (Wolter, Bowness, Baranov)
Jennifer Janse van Rensburg / Benjamin Steffan at Finlandia Trophy (Gordon-Poltorak, Elek, Towler-Green)
Viktoria Semenjuk / Ilya Yukhimuk at Ice Star (Andreeva, Baranov, Komleva)

Level 4 for both partners in the Pattern Dance Type Step Sequence seems to have happened only once:

Mariia Kazakova/ Georgy Reviya at Mezzaluna Cup (Baumann, Kika, Zanni)

I think Chantelle Kerry/Andrew Dodds are the only ones getting a Level 4 on the Steps in the FD (Mezzaluna Cup).

So, search for Bowness or Baranov to get key points. And go to Rome for the levels on the steps.;)

Didn't know whether to make a new thread for this?
I would like to know who you think the next great couple in dance will be?
After the olympics/worlds there is going to probably be a good number of retirements.
I expect Stepanova/Bukin to get up there especially if S/K retire. Also C/B if they are staying on.Zagorski/Guirro
So who is going to take the dance world over?
Kaganovskaia/Angelopol juniors now but such potential.
Lajoie/Laga
Morozov/Bagin
Davis/Smolkin
Wolfkostin/Chen again juniors.
Thoughts :)

Because of Karina's book release, I've been revisiting some of their old programs. And honestly, I just rewatched their Scott Jopline FD twice, and reqatched the first minute about 5 times. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x39t688 The only FDs I've rewatched from this season are P/C and Green/Parsons, each of which I've rewatched once.

I love P/C. But I hate what ice dance has become. I miss seeing a variety of styles in the FD.

I'm not sure I share your opinion on this ... I have not watched all the competitions so far but I do see a good variety of styles. Are you thinking more along the lines of teams "repeating" a similar style or of uniformity in Ice Dance in general?

While I do wish we were seeing more variety, I don't think P&C are at fault for nobody among their competitors having original ideas . P&C got to where they are because they weren't skating or moving like anyone else before them. Their style of movement was very different from Zueva era and Zhulin.
Sadly, rather than inspiring others to find their own identity/ideas on the ice , this quad, it has launched copycats among skaters who aren't really suited to that lyrical style.
Looking back at 2018, V&M , the Shibs, and H&D all presented very different and well defined styles from each other and from P&C.
That being said , P&C are the class of the field for me right now in both programs and skating and I am so pulling for them to slay and be OGM.
After that I think H&D look the best skating and program wise, but their choreography is a bit to soft for my liking. I would have loved a rock or bluesy number from them in the FD. I think the Janet Jackson RD has potential.

C&B have a gimmicky and fun concept but the actual program is lacking something for me.

S&K have a solid RD as usual, but they should just dump their entire FD and start again. I hate to say that their FDs actually looked better under Zueva, but they did :scream: . Their Michael Jackson FD that they dumped last season was poor ,but I blamed it on Beer burden 18+1, I found 'Songs My Mother Taught Me ' to be tedious, Air and Preludium was actually their best and even that was only because of their campy old school ending.

G&P are shockingly disappointing . Carol Lane has picked now -the Olympic season -to run out of ideas and be lazy with choreography after so much time building momentum with them as a team. Meh.

This has not been such a good season in terms of material so far.

Oh, I don't blame P/C at all. (Although I do wish they had done a tango this season....) I think other teams are no longer playing to their own strengths, because judges have indicated they like those programs.

Phil Hersh just posted a French article quoting a Russian judge saying P/C would not be judged well because of "the dancer's homosexuality." The article itself is paywalled and in French, of course but here's the tweet: https://twitter.com/lequipe/status/1450841764403761157
Jackie Wong tweeted about this last week after Finlandia.
This was the Match article in Russian
