Hawayek & Baker have great twizzles though, when they hit them. And they don't crawl at all like Weaver & Poje's off side. The technique does not look similar.
I love it when Hawayek/Baker hit their twizzles because their my favorite American ice dancers. I'm wonder who taught Weaver/Poje their twizzles, because they are not good.

Gadbois has the good luck of picking up incredibly talented and characmatic teams. I’m not sure there are ice dance coaches who have made silk purses out of cows ears. If so, who? The next “it” coaching team will be it because of their star team.

I'm pretty sure that in Sochi, the top (only?) Gadbois team was Hurtado/Diaz. They were in pretty rough shape when they went to Montreal, and improved considerably. Plus their Picasso FD was amazing. I don't know how things would have worked out for them had they not split, but the Montreal team definitely deserves a lot of credit for what they achieved.

The number of articles out there claiming to explain the difference between ice dancing and figure skating are . I think I've counted three completely different write-ups on this fake subject thus far.

How hard is it to understand that pairs & ice dance are two different forms of figure skating?

I've also learned today that . . .

Everyone has to skate to a rhumba rhythm in the SD (false).

Ice dancers have always skated to music with lyrics (false).

And ice dancers never lift their partners above their heads. (I get where the author was going with this, but literally speaking it's also false).

Lol. Half the articles I've seen don't even realize that pairs and ice dance *are* figure skating. It's like, "so there's figure skating, and then there's ice dance, right?"

Close but no cigar.

My mom has been asking to me incesantly about the american pair, I did not understand why she was so interested about Alexa and Chris, she thought something serious happened to the american pair because she did not see them at the competition of pairs.

The thing is she was thinking all the time about Maia and Alex, no Alexa and Chris :wall:

Yes, it's driving me nuts. (In a humorous way. I mean, I'm glad these reporters are trying to write about dance, but they are so confused. LOL). The writers are also getting themselves tangled in knots because they want to use the word "pair" to describe an ice dance team. And I get that the word "team" is a little challenging when writing about Olympic figure skating now that we have a separate team event.

But . . . if you don't want to say an ice dance "team," here are a few better synonyms than the word "pair":
duo
partnership

Couple? ;)

I think it’s very interesting to see Charlie white use bobrova as an example of terrible ice dancer on nbc! I think it’s over for them! Maybe not top 10 or 8th like at last year’s worlds.

Charlie White also used a slow motion replay of V/M's Rhumba as the gold standard of the use of edges in Choctaws the judges gave them a Level 2 for, and B/S got higher PCS than the Shibs from several judges in both sections. Who knows what they'll decide to do tomorrow, basically.

he did that? tasteless, she is currently competing.
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Reality is, yes it's not very nice, but they are not the only one, Tanith and Ben often do it too. Actually the 3 of them were all about Stepanova/Bukin pretty much all season. And criticizing B/S (especially Katia).

This is true! He said v/m were amazing and b/s were trash. So it was like a pro v/m piece as well as an anti b/s campaign piece.

Intl Judge from G. Spin suspended:

NBC commentators have been bashing b/s sooo much!

That judge case! They had scores for teams not even there. Lol. Busted.

There's clearly an agenda by NBC to make any good result by B&S look controversial.

I complained that Belbin acted more like a PR person than a commentator for the US teams at Nationals, not finding one single thing to critique about any of the top 3, and I doubted she would be that way for everyone at the Olympics.

I was assured by posters here that she would be even handed, but within seconds of B&S starting their SD in the team event, she called them "sloppy".

Not "unfinished", not "lacking polish" , but sloppy. She then went on to shit on them all through the middle of the the sbs sequence, which was strong, fluid, and got level 4. Something V&M and people's precious Shibs couldn't muster.

Will she point out the constant gap H&D skate with between their bodies? The tiny skating and reliance on recycled moves and elements from C&B and the Shibs? We all know she won't.

And I'm sorry, but Tanith Belbin, a woman who wouldn't know an unbent fee leg and good posture if it smacked her in the face, critiquing another person's form is rich.

They are all doing it! And have been all season you are right! On one hand they didn’t make the gpf so it’s an argument for them being right! On the other hand like their criticism of b/s is so much harsher than for any other team. I was shocked to read a nice tweet by Meryl Davis about b/s so it’s like if you are on TV you’re hypercritical of b/s.

Agree!

No, Charlie did not call B/S trash or terrible. He did a side by side comparison of V/M and B/S doing a choctaw where there were clear differences in execution: this edge is held and this one wobbled, these free legs match and these do not, this posture is crisp and that one is bent. That allowed him to explain to viewers how the element is scored. Isn't that what we keep harping on commentators to do?

Quite. He was measured, stuck to the facts aided by replay, insulted nobody personally, and was entirely correct in his analysis. What more do people want from commentators? It's not their job to give gold stars to everyone if they want casual viewers to understand the placements.

I think the TE SD showed how stupid keypoint calling is for the pattern dance.
Well, I don't know either. It's true that when I watched V/M or Shibs pattern and then B/S at the TE, yes you wonder. But truth is we're asking you for precise edge and timing work, plus you have to differentiate other than GOEs I guess.

@casken You're saying that NBC want to make B/S controversial, but truth is : aren't they "anticipating" ? In case of a surprise bronze ?

I still put H/D vs Shibs for bronze though, C/B being the spoiler - Shibs having the SD advantage. WeaPo can make a case too, and I'll be honest I think C/L are far away (hello Team event) :scream: At this point even their teamates G/F have scored very close, and if it wasn't for PCS...

Considering how non-controversial and happy most of FSU is with the Pairs and Mens competition, I'm hoping ice dance will turn out the same way, but I have a feeling it won't just because of the nature of ice dance and how the fans are (myself included).
