D&Vanagas had cool programs, but they weren't as good as teams that were in front of them.
Maybe the year they were hosed was for their Sunrise at Alcatraz FD. And after 2002 a bit too considering the powers that be chose to reward (and it still hurts) Grushina&Goncharov who were far worse than anyone else in the top 12 at that point in time.

Sara and Kirill withdraw from Minsk , apparently they need go to Madrid to get Kirill passport or something like that :wall:

Thanks @Dobre for the live reports!
Re W/P going back to JSM: what about going back to Moulin Rouge instead :EVILLE:

Just joking. I am generally not a fan of bringing back old programs (I find Hanyu super lazy this year vs Chan challenging himself), but I understand the strategic choice after trying something new and seeing that it doesn't have the same impact. That said, I find W/P have not produced memorable programs in the post Sochi quad (they 'stagnated' artistically for me a bit). I really like them so I wish we could have seen more inspired programs together with their technical improvements. But I'm all in with the JSM 2.0! If they add the lift from bitter earth with Kaitlyn's split position and the spin from Aranjuez.. :drama:

H/D brought me from liking them to uberdom with the Halleluja SD so I am totally partial, but I was super impressed with the practice videos from SC! Very much upgraded both programs, the FD has incredible flow and body movement following the rise and fall of the music. :swoon:
I hope I get to see it live at some point!

I'm quite disappointed with H/D program for this season. Esp. the lifts, even though I love their step sequence. I won't say more as I want to see high quality video to have a better view on their program but for now I'm on the Shibs wagon.

I have seen WP practice JSM and I've seen something I haven't for a long time... They looked Happy. Happy. Still disappointed by their choice but it feels so GOOD to finally see them like that!!!!

Yes, very. They looked quite slow too and their rhumba pattern shallow. One of the SDs I was really looking forward to. I'll wait for a better video at NHK to make up my mind because I'm not feeling it right now.
I wonder if there is another injury at this point. They are usually much more OTT (it's a good OTT though) than that and they got 74.00. I was expecting a big skate.

Apparently Victoria and Nikita had a fall in the lift . 3rd place. Seriously, How can she still trust him?

Tiffany and Jon beat S/K in the SD by a good 4 points at Minsk! Really happy for them! In second place going into the free. Hope Nazarova/Nikitin beat S/K in the FD. N/N are behind by only 0.49.
S/K had a massive fall in the lift, they got no points for this + 2 deductions : easily 7-8 points lost

Yikes
C and L have work to do.
It looked so forced and frantic and slow.
I'm not sure it even deserves a top ten score thus far.

The shibs skate small and slow, but clean.
The italians is another story. They skated slow and small, and with shallow edges. Yikes. Too bad because I think this SD I shall like.

In other controversial opinions, Vanessa Crone wasn’t all that as a skater.

I agree. She had bad posture and her skating skills weren't as good as Paul's. Piper isn't up to Paul's level but she is much more charismatic and presents the programs better than Vanessa ever did.

Respectfully disagree. Her skating skills were as good as Paul's, and worlds better than Piper's are even today. If Piper could learn to skate, then Vanessa's posture could have been improved as well. Interestingly, she did not have posture issues when she was away from Carol Lane and skating with Keiffer. Regarding presentation, program material as well as age are factors. They were 20 and 19 when they last skated and were always given more serious programs.

WTH ?!
I saw male pairs and skaters rush for their partners when a fall happened, even for falls that were not that bad. The way he dropped her she could have been badly hurt. Did he even care afterwards ?
I hope she's all right.

Moral of the story : don't need to put 2 very good skaters together if the behaviour isn't here.

OMG he causes the mistake she makes (hand on the ice) and then let go completly the last 30 seconds of his program.
He botches a lift and lets his partner fall pretty hard.
Really, it's always the same with him. He botches it and doesn't even bother.

BTW, I wonder how Bob/Soloviev feel, being left alone AGAIN, one week before their second grand prix ...

Skate Canada SD Review

Tessa and Scott

Brilliant, as always. I have no words. Broke the world record again! :cheer2:

Madi and Zach
So much chemistry. The musical phrasing was everything. They should be in second right now. The deduction is complete nonsense. The lift did not exceed 6 seconds. In fact, I timed it and it was 2:47-2:52. I can't deal with this. Oh well, bring on the FD...
