Ok, the figure skatin' freak AND history nut in me are going CRAZY!!!
These clips are like GOLD!!!
I genuflect in your general direction.....

I'm certainly a skating history geek, that's for sure!!
Here's more goofiness from my collection, several home movie clips from 1956 Worlds. The clips are uploaded as silent becuase matching music to them is time coonsuming and the youtube police were all over me with all kinds of constraints yesterday when I did the olympics clips:
1956 Worlds - Tenley Albright LP (2nd)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMOrI2M1cp0
1956 Worlds - Carol Heiss LP (1st)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBmkAh2nxkA
1956 Worlds - Ronnie Robertson LP (2nd)

These next few are obscure. Aussiewilly or anyone else from downunder, do you have any info on this next skater? It's only a brief snippet but still....
1956 Worlds - Charles Keeble AUS LP (16th)

1956 Worlds - Hanno Stroher AUT LP (14th)

Waaaay before teaming up with Marika Kilius to become World pair champions, Hans Jurgen Baumler skated sk=ingles. He's only 14 here;

Here's the 3rd ranked US girl. 2 time US Bronze medallist, Catherine Machado was the first Hispanic athlete to represent the US on an Olympic team!!!!

She skated with Ice Capades I believe and won a World professional championship in 1958. She was inducted into the USFSA Hall of Fame in 2005. Whoever recorded this liked her becuase it's in colour and over 4 minutes long!!
1956 Worlds - Catherine Machado LP (6th)

The only pair I have;
1956 Worlds - Schwarz & Oppelt AUT (1st)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwp6bkNGX4U
These next clips are fun. I have footage of all four medal ceremonies. Things sure were different back then!! First up is pairs with Schwarz & Oppelt, Dafoe and Bowden once again winning the silver and the bronze medallists are a 12 year old Marika Kilius with her first partner Franz Ningel.

And that's the 1956 Worlds!! What's been so great about posting these is I have already had requests for footage from Frances Dafoe's son and Kurt Oppelt's son. It's so important that we can give back to the skaters who haven't seen this footage since they first skated it. I hope you enjoy these rare glimpses into the past.
