Howard Craker is my hero. So many performances of US Champions are available due to his dedication. He was a volunteer, not paid for any of this, but he has preserved a lot of US skating history.

I recently acquired a copy of Howard crakers pairs champions tape although the quality is nowhere near yours Pollyanna. I need to upload those to youtube.

I have not stopped kicking myself for not buying mens, pairs and dance when I had the chance. :wideeyes:
 
Pollyanna, I looooong to see the mens tape. Button, the Jenkins brothers. I particularly want to see a David Jenkins freeskate. I recently found out that as early as 1958 he was doing triple sal, loop and flip in his LP's and as we now know he could do triple axels as early as 1957 - Amazing skater :respec:

I think I have watched his performance for the first time since 1972.
Wow, wow, wow, he was a very nice looking guy.

Besides Aaahhh and Wow, he had only 3S and 3T to win,
and the choreo was minimalistic, but of course the basics was superb.
Fascinating to see the evidence of the evolution of Figure skating.
On th other hand, Janet had the artistry to match with today's top skaters
or even BETTER!!

I was very curious
as I had not seen her complete free performance since then.

Well, for Nepela's performance,
you can say "he got the great basics and the great speed", which is true
despite of the fact that his technical & artistic contents were much lower
compared with today's top skaters standards.
And honestly I enjoyed watching his performance.

But for Shuba, what can I say?
I do not think I can say she has the great basics,
and her pasture was just awfull!

Well, at least it was said that Schuba was the genius of the School Figure,
which we really cannot see it on films unfortunately.
 
Wow, Trixi's skating was rather pedestrian. I remembered seeing a black and white utube of a much younger Schuba skate, and she was much better then in term of speed and jumps.

Thank you so much for posting the link to Schuba's 1972 freeskate.

I agree, rather ordinary freeskating and couldn't seem to do a decent camel spin. I spent years from 1971 on furious that this could win gold, and Lynn couldn't even make the podium in 1971, and only bronze in 1972 despite her magical freeskate.

But then all these vids became available on FDVids and youtube, and I got to see Trixi's magnificent compulsory figures, and then saw how much less remarkable Janet Lynn's were, and my appreciation of and admiration for Ms. Schuba soared. She competed brilliantly by the rules of her day, and deserved every medal she won.

That was funny. Thanks for posting it. I think Soupy and Pat already knew who Elaine Zayak was, because there was absolutely nothing in Elaine's replies that indicated she knew much about skating at all. Contestant number 1 was a hoot with her answers; Too bad she wasn't a real figure skater. I liked how contestant number 3 already knew that she would be going to be in Sarejevo 3 years later :).
 
What was Trixie's LP placement in 72? I can't believe that there weren't at least 8 other LP peformances better than that. The whole performance looked like that of a very good adult figure skater, not one who was World and Olympic chamion.
