I agree about Voronov. I wanted him to get the shot, but it would not have been fair to either Samarin or Aliev to bump them off the team. What all three of them have that the US does not, is using the results of another comp to make the final decision. Russia gave Samarin and Aliev the opportunity to 1) fight between themselves for the 2nd spot for the Olympics, and 2) to have Voronov in reserve if both of them implode. Which is a real possibility. Aliev isn't a chartermember of #TTW for nothing. They really stacked their odds very well. It's a real pity 4CC is way too close to the Olympics and way too far away for the US not to be able to do the same. Oh, well. Canadian nationals winners are a given unless Duh/Rad, Chan, Osmond and Virtue/Moir decide to skip the Olympics so onward to Europeans and the Empress! And the return of Medvedeva. I'm really looking forward to the first real showdown between her and her little buddy Zagitova. :watch:

Hey hey hey, no skipping over Canadian Nats! There's still Elvis.

Don't forget that Russia has only 2 spots.. if there's no Euros, Russian Figure Skating Federation would have submitted Kolyada and Samarin without a doubt.
RFSF also clearly prefers Samarin to other men ( with the exception of Kolyada), so both 1) and 2) won't happen even if Aliev takes silver or bronze at Euros and Samarin finishes dead last.
I also believe that PFSF preferred Aliev to Voronov at Nats not only because he is younger and more promising but also as it would be hard for him to place ahead of Samarin at Euros giving his inconsistency and boots problems. At the same time Voronov really could have medalled in Moscow and put RFSF into an award position

Speaking of Euros, is anyone going there?

Ross not even on the world team, that's ****ing cold

And, Grant skipped for 4CC in favor of Aaron! What's the point of coming to nationals and skating your best?

What?! Such a slap in the face! And not even first alternate for the Olympics. That's so disrespectful to Ross's accomplishments.

Not even 1st alternate to Worlds either. Sad.

:(:(:( I don't know what to say.... I want to give Ross a hug, I guess I'm not the only one...

Im really torn for Ross. I dont like him, he bores me, but he had his ultimate moment and is Daddy's crush.... so many mixed feelings about this.. In the end i kinda agree with the dumping but not even being 1st alternate is baffling. I also feel for Mark Mitchell whos reliving his worst trauma with his pupil now.

On the bright side, at least no one can claim USFS is homophobic anymore. They kicked the vanilla white bread straight guy in favor of the glittery grindr fairy bird.

Honestly I've never been the biggest fan of his skating, but he is the nicest guy and he had his evening in the sun which means usually you get to go to the Olympics. But no, he's told "fcuk you, we determined this long ago, you never had a chance, and btw, 2nd alternate for your silver medal" :angryfire

He killed it last night. It was fabulous. He delivered and is told to buzz off.

I must say, he's the hunkiest and most ripped Vietnamese (Canadian) guy I've ever seen!

If only he had a partner who could do the elements justice. I really miss him and his previous partner, I can't really take his current partnership seriously.

#TTW...the highest highs followed by the lowest lows...
I think that's written into the charter.
Criteria:
1) Skater needs a complete package to potentially be a top skater at Euros/4CC's/Worlds/Olympic level
2) Skater needs to have the ability to absolutely rock one day and splat the day after. Even better: rock and splat during one program
3) Skater is not afraid of breaking one's heart over and over again
4) Skater needs more splat/messy performances than great ones.
