That's a very interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

The guest list looked rather random in general. Felipe and Mathilde attended alone but both Willem-Alexander and Maxima were there. (The mix of kings, queens, crown princes/princesses and prince and princesses must have been a headache for the office of protocol to figure out).

Maybe the Swedish and Norwegian royal families are close and that's why Victoria and Daniel took Oscar? Or they just didn't want to leave him behind? Prince Christian still has all his siblings at home.

Ingrid-Alexandra is a stunning young woman and I think the portrait where she wears the navy blue dress is beautiful!

ETA: I love Estelle's dress. It's formal but the flow-y skirt and the flowers make it look kind of fun, too, and I think it's just the right kind of dress for that occasion for a girl her age.
Felipe, Victoria and Frederik are among Ingrid Alexandra's godparents. Leonor finished her school year in Wales on the 17th and was due to return to Spain on the 18th, plus she is still only 17, so that explains her absence (and why Letizia probably stayed home - plus, she isn't known to enjoy the royal social circuit).

Haakon & Mette-Marit are reportedly close with Willem-Alexander and Maxima, so it makes sense they would both attend (plus, God love Maxima - she's yet to meet a tiara event she's passed up, lol). And, yes the Norwegian RF is also very close to both the Danish & Swedish RFs.

I'm not sure why Christian didn't accompany his parents - perhaps they don't feel like he needed to attend since he isn't 18 yet.

Agree about Estelle - the dress, hair and headband were just perfect for a tween.

The only thing that would have improved the future monarchs picture would have been the presence of Leonor, Princess of Asturias. Ingrid-Alexandra looks wonderful, and Amalia seems to share her mother's fondness for cape dresses - I approve! I wonder why some younger royals were there (Prince Oscar) and some weren't (Leonor, Prince Christian of Denmark).

Queen Sonja's yellow dress is delightful, and it's nice to see Princess Mary bring out the Midnight Tiara, I think it's been a while since she wore it.
What’s Asturias?

That's the title given to the immediate heir to the throne of Spain. Like their version of the Prince of Wales. Belgium does the same... Princess Elisabeth is, as next in line to the Belgian throne,, Duchess of Brabant, and Princess Catharina-Amalia, as heir to the throne in the Netherlands, is Princess of Orange.

Very nice portraits (aside from the reading in armchair one which is quite the cliche) with that article. I love the wisteria one.

Don'tcha love the Jimmy Choo ad right under the armchair one? At first I thought it was another photo of her & was thinking "great legs!". ;)

I remain a huge fan of Princess Diana but I am so glad to see the acceptance of the Duchess of Cornwall. Sometimes life is messy and Prince Charles did what was expected of him according to the norms of the day, but regardless of two wonderful sons, his first marriage was doomed. I have great respect for the British people's ability to move past scandal and recognize that they are first and foremost people trying to find personal happiness where they can.

Not sure if anyone posted in the old thread about the issues with Prince Christian's boarding school in Denmark - there have been multiple reports about the bullying and abusive environment in the school. Yesterday, the Danish Ministry of Education released it's preliminary report - https://jyllands-posten.dk/indland/ECE14188302/styrelse-kritiserer-herlufsholms-bestyrelse/ - it's really quite damning and caused the resignation of the school's entire Board of Trustees - https://www.bt.dk/royale/herlufshol...-sig-de-maa-sidde-paa-amalienborg-og-klappe-i almost immediately. And, within hours, Frederik & Mary announced that they were withdrawing Christian from the school immediately and that Isabella would not enroll there in the fall as had been previously planned - https://www.kongehuset.dk/nyheder/udmelding-fra-kronprinsparret-den-26-juni-2022.

ETA - the Daily Fail is even covering it - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/...-rip-eldest-son-Christian-16-Herlufsholm.html

Invading his family's privacy? For those (including The Firm) accusing the Sussexes of overreacting to paparazzi check out William's reaction when it's his family. Not so fun when it's you, is it Wills?

Did William ever suggest that it's fun to be chased by paparazzi? Do you think he didn't notice his mother's experiences, or some of what Kate went through before their marriage?

Just because he doesn't discuss it as often as Harry does, doesn't mean it's not an issue for him as well.

Prince William and Kate successfully sued a photographer and French magazine way back in 2012 for topless pictures shot and published of Kate with a long range lens while sunbathing. At that time, William mentioned the connection to what happened to his mother.

Not a good week for the Royals:

Charles

"In practical terms only a small number of Newton St Loe tenants are affected by the ban. But they say they have suffered bitter financial hardship as a result of the prince’s special rights. One, Jane Giddins, said she and her husband cannot borrow against their home to pay for social care for themselves in the future. She added that the value of the 99-year-old lease on their home – their main asset – diminished steadily as it got closer to ending.

“It is total injustice, and feudal,” Giddins said. “Because my freehold is owned by someone who is immensely wealthy and powerful, I am not protected by the law that applies to everyone else in this country. I can’t do anything about it.”

She said that when she and her husband took the lease in 1996, the duchy told them about the ban on buying it – but she could not have known that the prince had lobbied to keep the village exempt from leasehold reform.

“I took the view that it was so obviously anachronistic and grossly unfair, that by the time I needed to sort it out, the law would have been changed. And I had no idea that the duchy would be able to stop the law being tidied up.”

This is part of an ongoing issue where the Queen has been revealed to use the process of "queen's consent" to have laws amended to gain exclusions & favourable amendments for her estates - for example, she is the only landowner in Scotland that doesn't have to permit construction for renewable energy infrastructure. This is not really supposed to happen, it's supposed to just be a formality that is left over from the 17th century. It is absolutely ridiculous that an already overprivileged, unelected family can alter and exclude themselves from the laws delivered by a democratically elected government. And given Charles' history of opining and interfering with politics already, I can only see it getting worse once he is King.
