I like Nathan doing his Spanish footwork to "Beat it".

I guess the men are arguably pretty open after Nathan. There's any number that could be ranked 2-6. Not to mention all these guys that are growing out of Juniors and are unknown quantities after this weird season leading up to this week.

Vincent's really been working on his presentation - his carriage has changed. I'd love to see him work on his arms and particularly his wrists, plus pay a little more attention to where he's holding his head sometimes.

US guys killing the footwork. Lots of choreographic ideas there.

I agree, Vincent looks great...really solid on the quads and triple axels.

I am also impressed with Eric Sjoberg. Very lovely skating and artistry combined with lovely jump technique. I remember how good he was when he was a little guy. Is this his first year skating senior at nationals?

Yes, Eric is the 2020 junior silver medalist and won the FS last year with a lovely tango performance (I posted a fan cam video link recently). He won the 2016 Novice title when he was still very small and had to adjust to major growth spurts. 3A is a new jump for him in competition this season - he surprised me by landing a very good one in his qualifying FS for Nationals. Adam Rippon choreographed his SP to "The Blower's Daughter" which suits his skating style, IMO.

What Jason Brown just showed us in footwork and spins!
After I recovered from watching Jason skate his run through without jumps (who needs 'em?!), here are my jump notes for the others.

Mitchell Friess SP: 2A with Besti squat exit, marked his other jumps, cool footwork into his final spin that ended with a catchfoot layback!

Jimmy Ma FS: 4T+3T, 4T, 3A (WOW opening)... 3Lo fell out, 3F-half loop-3S, Torgashev-like kick over move. He looks very focused this year!

Jordan Moeller SP: 3A fell out, 3F fell out, 2Lz
Eric Sjoberg SP: 1A (planned?), 3F, 3Lz+3T
Vincent Zhou FS: 4Lz(arms up)+3T, 4F, 4S, 3A (note: Jimmy Ma was sitting and watching), 2?F, OSE to 3A+2T, Ripp3Lz-half loop-3S, lots of energy in his final footwork (Misha Ge influence?).

Jason did a confident 3A near the end of practice, along with a multi-transition entry into 3Lz+3T before dazzling us with his spins.

Tomoki Hiwatashi SP: 4T, 3A, his trademark BIG Russian split jump, 3Lz+3T, cook kick over move in footwork (shades of Torgashev) ending in a hydroblade.

Joseph Kang FS: 3S, 3F fell out, 2A, spiral to low hydroblade move, 2A high, (Saint-Saens organ symphony that, for me, always will be associated with the end of Paul Wylie's 1992 Olympic FS), 3Lo, Russian split jump.

Yaroslav Paniot FS (Elvis medley choreo. by Misha Ge): 4F, 3T (planned quad), Ripp3Lz-half loop-3F, Ripp3Lz (also has a second 4T planned in 2nd half)

Camden Pulkinen SP: 4T fall, 3A solid, 3Lz+2T, stumble in footwork. Landed another good 3A afterwards.

Maxim Naumov FS: 3A(pitched F)+2T, 1A, 1F, 3Lz fall near boards & stopped, 3A, 3F-half loop-3S step, 3Lo, very energetic footwork!

Think I heard the announcer say the SP draw is scheduled for 5:15 local/8:15 Eastern.

Wow, Nathan! He loves to show-off that midriff, not just the quads...lol!

Nathan is otherworldly in the difficulty, mixed with complicated choreography, footwork and spins. Just so great. Quad lutz looking solid and gorgeous. He could water down his programs and still win...but he doesn’t.
Well I bet some of this is in prep for potentially going to worlds. He could water down here, but if Hanyu goes clean Nathan might need all the difficulty. It's just good practice (although for my money at this point if they both go clean I'd probably give an edge to Nathan but you never know, ice is slippery, etc).

So annoyed he dropped his Avicii/Swedish short, or at least I saw a different music listed in the program the other day. It was, like usual with him, fantastically different. (Someone come tell me he's actually kept it- I'm not watching the practices)

It's Je dors sur des roses from the Mozart Rock Opera now.
