I’m wondering if Johnny also caught Alysa in either of yesterday’s two ladies practices...in the same practice group as Amber. Not all skaters attend first-day practices, I realize...but last night’s practice was the second one for ladies.

I’m so looking forward to the camera becoming available today...around my noon est!

Practice Cam went LIVE for a few mins. just now (shot of the ice/kiss & cry) for a test, I presume. Less than 40 mins. until Pairs practice - order of groups for the first practice is B C A (names in each group are listed in my post above).

Tip: Practice Cam brings up all the upcoming streams when I search.

Lockley/Prochnow are doing their SP, choreo. by Rohene Ward. Rockne Brubaker is with them here.

ETA:

Knierim/Frazier ran through most of their SP - 3 twist/nice catch, BIG throw 3Lo and their sbs spins had good unison and looked close together. Todd Sand and Christine Binder are here with them.

Serafini/Tran skated parts of their FS - skipped the opening sbs jump (3F?) but went for the 3T-half-loop-2S later. Jason Briggs is with them.

I just don’t understand skating through SBS jumps during practice. IMHO, they need to “practice “ them so they can maybe actually be successful during the comp. As our Pair skaters have consistently demonstrated their inability to land such SBS, maybe practice would make perfect?

Only K/F, among the pairs in this first group, skated most (all?) of their elements...the other two mostly marked. Even so, I believe that Brandon doubled his sbs jump.

Most skaters like to warm up quite a bit before they start doing triples, so skaters whose music is played early in the rotation are likely to skate through their jumps or just do doubles. This is something that's pretty obvious if you're watching the practice in person.

K/F keep drilling their sbs jumps. Unison still seems a bit off, but also they are landing them so I think they'll take it.
I thought the unison looked better (though not completely there yet). He did double his in the run through. Their throw triple loop was very nice! I thought all 3 pairs looked a bit tight and nervous, which is to be expected.

Ok, makes sense.

Second group of PRs-

Beath/Bartholomey- Cry Me a River SP - very good exc for Nate hands-down on sbs jump. Lovely lift featuring unusual “presage” ballet position (look it up...ha)

Gribbles - Never Tear Us SP - most elements great but she seemed to put free foot down after the throw jump. Lift ok but a bit slowish. So far, they’re the best but...no smiles...all business.

Chan/Howe - The Prayer (must be their LP). She fell on the first sbs jump...but basically fine.

Ashley def 2-footed the landing of the throw.

Katie McBeath seems to have adapted very well to pairs in her first season competing. :) I spoke to her briefly in Greensboro last year when she came to watch the event, and she was very excited about starting a new discipline. Nice throw 3Lo in the SP run through. I think Christine Binder was with them? (They all took a photo together in the kiss & cry after they got off the ice.)

Ashley and Timothy landed sbs 3S in the SP run through and her free foot brushed upon landing the throw 3Lz. They later did jumps from their FS - 3S+2T+2Lo and 3Lo (she fell out).

Spencer (with man bun :D) landed the opening sbs 3S (she fell), then both landed 3T+2T and did throw doubles in their FS run through - they move well together with nice extensions, IMO. Their lifts look improved. Aleksey Letov is with them. She was working on her Salchow at the end - mostly doubles from what I saw.

Solid run-throughs for Calalang/Johnson and Lu/Mitrofanov, with L/M landing both SBS jump elements and throw triple flip.

I am having a horrid time with the feed, but considering how bad my internet has been lately and that I am "working" on an article which has me doing a lot of google searches it may just be me!

Hanns/Garbutt (making their senior national debut here) did a nice throw 3S in their SP run through.

Calalang/Johnson's 3twist was SO HIGH! They also landed their throw 3Lz in their SP run through. Looks like Jenni Meno has joined her husband by the boards.

Lu/Mitrofanov landed their sbs jumps (3S-half loop-2S and 3T) in their FS run through, along with both triple throws (3Lz & 3Lo). She's very serious when skating - he is more expressive with the Chaplin theme.

Don't think it's just you! I just got out of Peacock completely and went back in... we'll see.
