This IS his competitive SP. The only difference is the jumps. But if you meant he hasn't skated this SP in competition like he did here - well, the season has just begun and he has only competed once with this so I think it's too early to say whether he can or cannot. We will see if he's able to pull off the same kind of performance level with the quads included as the season progresses.

Nemesis is my current favorite men's short program. Shae Lynn did a great job with the choreography. Nathan has always had great performance ability since his Peter and the Wolf days. The concentration to execute those very difficult quad jumps has at times overridden his performance. But I think he is learning to do both. So exciting!

I love Nemesis as well! You can see he is really working to put more detailed choreography together with the jumps this year. I also like that it is more modern as well as something different and his own in a season when so many are skating to Carmen, MR and other warhorses.

But, I am still thinking about Nathan's program layout. With that layout, I wonder if he could actually do a 4Z and 4F after the StSq. He might repeat that reliable 4T and do a 4S after the StSq in the bonus. I know by the end of last year he was attempting to repeat the 4Z and 4F, so I just assumed he would try that somewhere else. But to get a 4Z and 4F after a tiring StSq, one would have to be superhuman

No idea why you eyerolled when you literally named the only three skaters who have attempted quad jumps in the women's division, Sasha literally only once in competition, Surya 4 maybe 5 times in the early 1990s, and Miki's were 15-20 years later. That's like saying the 80s was the era of men's quads because three people were attempting them.

The ladies have never been in an era of quads. They haven't even reached a place where more than one or two skaters are even attempting triple axels at them at the same time, let alone quads.
 
Right, even when Surya, Miki, and Sasha spoke about quads, nobody really took that to mean the ladies were all of a sudden were going to have a quad revolution, especially with how quickly those three skaters abandoned any further quad attempts after their initial tries. Plus, Sasha was never close to landing one in competition like the one time she tried it and I don't think people believed she really had one.

Luuurved Nathan's SP. Looking forward to seeing he skates this program with full emotions at the stage of Olympics! :love: Probably he needs some good amount of time to be prepared for skating this difficult program freely. Don't give up, Nathan! I see a promise in your endeavor! :cheer:

I agree. I thought Nathan did a great job. I love this program for him and he seemed much more comfortable doing it today with all the jumps than in SLC. I also like the black costume much better. I think it fits the program better.

The fact Kolyada beat him on PCS is ridiculous!
 
You can tell he's really been putting a lot of work into the short program. Everything seemed so sharp. Minus the jumps, but considering what I've seen from his practices - he did well. :) Definitely lowballed on PCS though, I hope they'll go up as the season progresses. British Eurosport was super complimentary of his improvements.

1. Competition is in Russia.
2. I think Kolyada is the one potential talent to crash the Hanyu-Fernandez-Chen-Chan-Jin-Uno party at the top. He has yet to really put it all together but the judges I think are sending a signal they will reward him big time if he does it

I'll have to see the repeat later today! I had forgotten the GP was starting! I also didn't know RCN has a new channel; Olympic Cable! I was lucky to surf by during scores of pairs! Figured to catch final performances on Sunday on NBC, but can check it out sooner! Checking the GP, I only see Nathan doing Russia and Skate America! Is he going to skip a 3rd event to save himself? :rolleyes: :COP: :respec:

The limit for all is 2 individual GP events now; if he qualifies for the GP Final, that would be the 3rd event.

That should take some stress off the elites! Winning is a curse since you have more responsibilities to appear, practice, and be prepared; surely taking its toll on their bodies! The same injuries and weariness has been occurring in tennis with injuries needing an extended hiatuses to get back to where they were! Novak Djokovic was in the middle of a historic run of winning in 2015, making every final, winning most of them and setting records, but by the summer of 2016 it was really hitting him; physically and mentally! The ennui continued into this season with him winning nothing on the tour, finally deciding to leave and rest up for the rest of the season after Wimbledon loss! He should come back fresh in 2018 just like other players who've taken breaks to get the passion back! :revenge: :kickass: :duh:
 
I usually don't write in many single skaters' thread, but I wanted to say a few things : in another forum I posted about Nathan saying that I wanted to see a modern/contemporary/edgy program from him because I felt he could reach some heights with it (I just see him as a more modern person than a classic one). I am a big Benjamin Clementine fan so when I read he was skating to it I was THRILLED. After seeing this program I am SO happy for him, it is just AWESOME and stands out big time in the men's field. Congrats Nathan you just made on FS fan happy !! :cheer2:

I get a lack of drama from Nathan when I watch him prepare and skate at a competition. I don't feel completely at ease but better than I do anticipating just about any other non-Ice Dance American skater. Most of the time you are waiting for a feck-up.

I haven't felt this way since watching the Kween.

Yeah, his practice reports were nothing to write home about here from what I saw (he landed quite a bit, but also fell/made a lot of mistakes too) - but he just knows how to compete. I'm also super impressed by how unfazed he is by completely just changing his layout right before he goes out to skate. He said in the press conference he has like, four possible plans in his mind each time he goes out to skate. He's just very calm under pressure. Each time he skates that program, it gets a little bit better. I'm so looking forward to seeing what it looks like at SA. :)
