I this case, I think it's so people will stop asking them about it.
There's boilerplate language for famous people asking for privacy. It is weird if they actually stated that they're trying to conceive - that is absolutely nobody's business but theirs.

I really don’t like the idea of telling people we’re trying to conceive. It just puts even more pressure on us and also you’re inviting people to ask if you’re pregnant yet. The smart thing to do is let it happen and when you have good news, that’s when you share (when ready of course).

And there are also lots of people who dislike the Sussexes asking for or taking steps to secure their privacy. I expect some of them might say that having shared their miscarriage experience why ask for privacy about trying again?

I very much doubt that boilerplate language stops people asking the question. Maybe they thought they'd try something different. Doubt that will work either but I can see why someone might try it.

I mean there are still people who feel they are deliberately hiding the colour of their son's hair due to the style of Christmas card they chose! This despite a video of said son a few months ago clearly showing his hair. They can't please all the people.

I don't know if they made any statement, but who would it be addressed at? If it's their family (though I can't really imagine QE ringing up Harry to ask), then you don't need to make a public statement. Likewise close friends. Are they being constantly questioned by the press? On social media? It's not really their style to make major statements just because people are asking, so it seems odd to do so now.

They shouldn't feel obligated to try. The whole point of the past year has been for them to do what's right for them.

Do they have pets? Next year they could just put them on the card, the reactions would be :watch:

I haven't seen any statement made about what they are doing with regard to expanding their family. A previous poster said they read an article where H&M said they were trying for another baby staight away. I suspect that if it's an article not an interview (which seems most likely) it will be based on speculation rather than any sort of "statement", without a link who knows? But the comments in this thread then spoke about whether or not they should be making comments about their plans I just think that if they're asked a question and choose to answer it directly thats their perogative - whilst I agree with you that it seems unlikely that's the case.

I completely agree they shouldn't feel obligated to try to please anyone. I very much doubt they do. I hope they don't. But how they make their decisions won't change the fact that some people will be disgruntled.

I thought the dogs featuring in this year's card was a nice touch to the overall feel of the picture.

I saw an article where the Sussexes said they are trying for another baby asap. I always wonder why anyone announces they are trying for a baby. That seems so random to me.
Do you have a link? The subsequent comments from other posters prompted me to look around, as it looks like this information came from "a source," an unnamed source.

See this, for example:

Baby watch! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are ready to expand their family, a source exclusively reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly

“Now that they’re comfortable in their new home and everything else in their lives is locked in and going well, Meghan’s told Harry it’s baby time,” the source reveals. “She’s ready to be a mom again and can’t wait to start the process!”

I can't find the original link I saw. That tells me it's questionable.

IMO it should be private. But the Sussexes try not to miss an opportunity to make a headline.
It is also old news given that she had a miscarriage.

Let me make something clear. I really doubt either Harry or Meghan told anyone that they were trying for a baby. (Despite whatever mud AxelAnnie is trying to fling.) My post was questioning why anyone would offer that information. That's what I find so random.

Agreed. Especially they have had a problem pregnancy.
It is such a private matter....or it should be.
People askask couples all the time...when are you going to start having children? I think the best answer is....someday....havent decided or whatever.

I think Harry and Meagan have a tricky path to navigate as regards to their personal lives and the press. They obviously did not enjoy the spotlight of being royal and have chosen a life far away from all those trappings. However, to sell their brand, they have to stay relevant. Surely, one hopes, the whole "brothers rift" headlines have run their course. People generally do enjoy glimpses into the personal family lives of celebrities and it does sell magazines but Harry and Meagan do not seem willing to allow that. I had to smile as I clicked on to an article that supposedly gave you a tour of their Santa Barbara home. Someone showed photos of the few rooms Harry and or Meagan had conducted interviews in and based on the very limited view of their background went on to guess at the rest of the room. We will have to see how well Archwell does as well as their Netflix endeavours.

Here's my thoughts: Harry never enjoyed the spotlight, so he was happy to step down. Meghan on the other hand loves being the centre of attention. She wasn't welcomed with open arms in the royal family and the tabloids were awful to her, so they moved to LA. I doubt even getting rid of social media would mean anything as Meghan will always want attention, one way or another.

This kind of statement always puzzles me. How do you know she loves being the center of attention & will always want attention? If that was so we would have a lot more photos & a lot more info.

Because Harry doesn't enjoy the attention. She has to walk a fine line between staying relevant and also remaining private.

I think that like many people, Harry and Meghan had a very different plan for 2020, and the CV situation threw them quite the curveball. They're still figuring out how to build their personal brand in a way that's relevant and appropriate to the current times. There are bigger challenges facing people these days, but it's nonetheless a considerable one. Hopefully they'll find the right path between making a public impact and having a private life.

Obviously I don't know her, but from what I've seen and in the context of the celebrity brand space, she's not after attention so much as the power to control her own narrative. She's achieved a level of name recognition way beyond anything she might have dreamed of as an actress, and that has come with a lot of downside as we all know. So yes, I think what it's about now for her is power to do what she wants to do, to control the narrative, to have her current image and her legacy be exactly what she envisions, rather than what the media or her fans for that matter want.

Agree that the past year has thrown a lot of plans out the window (although it's also interesting the way some celebrities are moving ahead in different and perhaps better for them directions, but that's another conversation), and I think further, what her bestie Jessica Mulroney has been through in the past year might also have given Meghan pause. Jessica famously was micromanaging her personal brand down to very deepest levels, and it took a matter of days for the entire thing to collapse around her.

Meghan just won a court case, and while it stems from incidents several years old, excerpts from her statement on the outcome say a lot about her frame of mind IMO.

I think that is an interesting statement "control the narrative". Can it be done? We see the extremes of the Kar/Jenners who share a lot, including photos and anecdotes of their children, and seem to be fairly good at the clap back when negative comments come their way. Contrast that with the actors/celebrities that now are not even sharing or acknowledging the birth of children, their names, or pictures other than their hands. George Clooney's twins are 3 years old and they have certainly been sheltered from the media. Time will tell if Harry and Meghan can keep people interested.
