Eh? The abuser has to confess, repent and try to mend his ways. That's what repentance is all about--not just being sorry but changing your sinful ways. Didn't the Duggars send Josh to some sort of camp for "treatment?" Not the way most of us would do it, maybe, but also not just victim blaming.@ErikWilliam my concern with the forgiveness is that, in their religious practice, it seems to be the responsibility of the girl/woman who was abused to fix the situation by offering forgiveness - not the responsibility of the abuser to change their ways.
All Christians are supposed to repent their sins. But even if you don't think that this is the case, the Duggars are highly image conscious and well aware that Christians are supposed to serve as a light to the world (that was their whole rationale for their show, IIRC). If you as a Christian are a sinner and you aren't doing what you can to change, you are a stumbling block, which is a sin all its own.
This is not to say that such groups don't try to hide pedophiles and sexual abusers; that's part of the whole image issue. But in terms of belief, yes, the abusers are expected to change their ways in this belief system.
As bizarre as you might find the Duggars' beliefs, I don't think they quite stretch to expecting Josh to go his merry molesting way as he pleases.
