Can’t sleep so I guess I am up to start watching the women’s. But no Canadians sigh 😔 that’s okay be nice to see the next generation of skaters anyway

First skater from Belgium their junior champion skating very well, coached by her mom. Clean program with good difficulty. Apparently a “star” of the future. 54.22

Next skater the first we will see from Turkey is their advanced novice skater and another 13 year old. Seems a little overly excited as her jumps were steady in the warm up but in her program her first few elements shaky till she settled down. Lots of potential, not as polished as the first skater. Great effort. 43.24

Wow Maria from Estonia, fabulous triple triple with great height, she has a lot of natural spring in her jumps. Rather stone faced but once her jumps completed she softened her face and body and started showing her artistic side, she’s quite musical. Judges recognizing her skills with good grades of execution on her elements. Should be a good score.
ETA 61.70

Milania from Lithuania 14 and second season on the jgp rough start with a fall on her loop, pretty dress though. Bit of a struggle today with the jumps but some nice field moves. Apparently she does have a triple triple toe loop but not today.
ETA 38.07

Interesting tidbit from the announcers that the ISU is allowing them to listen to the technical committee as they do the scoring and are considering other steps as they are trying to be as transparent as possible .. interesting and also the use of AI.

We have lost our announcers! Oh well.. Luca from the Netherlands with a strong triple toe triple toe to open, good technical jumper with clean jumps. Needs to work on her finesse a bit . We have also lost the music .
ETA 49.64

Ted and Mark talking about the research they do on the skaters and also they prefer to be on site so they can watch the skaters etc. I am more interested in how the ISU might be looking at AI? Imagine they might start with the Juniors to experiment, also allowing the audience to perhaps listen to the technical committee during the scoring process, interesting. I think more movement towards transparency is good.

Natalia from Romania, also trains in Italy and the USA. Opens with an almost sideways triple loop! Down on the next jump, not having a great skate. A sea of red blobs!
ETA oh dear she hasn’t had ice time as her rink closes in April so just summer camps not regular ice. 27.93

Bella our second skater from Turkey and also 13 lots of cheers from her home crowd. Like her team mate a bit nervous opens with triple loop combo but doesn’t make the second jump, just a double loop, great basics not as technical as her team mate in this skate but good energy.
ETA 40.72

YuFeng 15 from Chinese Tai Pei struggles with opening combo but rest of jumps clean and a little more artistic maturity than the previous skaters which should be reflected in the second mark
ETA 47.78

Yujae KIM from Korea is 15 and we saw her sister last weekend at Riga. Our first triple lutz triple toe and done beautifully, lovely elements and field moves. She is quite musical too. Nice spinner as well, this will put her in the top group today
ETA 62.52

Indonesia’s Chilly Anne opens with a wild double axel but lands it then a tiny double lutz double toe. Obviously a developing skating nation. Her dress and music seems to reflect her culture and it’s cool! Level four on her spin though! Will need more technical support to get triples from her current doubles.
ETA 32.41

Andrea from Andorra, opens with an almost double axel, oh my gosh the elton john cover song of “I’m still standing” is awful, I think they had a neighbour sing it. Obviously another developing skating nation with doubles. Only 6 hours a week skating when competing against skaters who do 6 hours a day which is reflected in her skating. I think that song has done me in. I’m going back to bed!

Time for the first ice resurfacing after the first 2 of 6 groups. There were over 3,200 watching the stream a few minutes ago - some of us (who didn't set an alarm) only joined recently and appreciate the comments from @4rkidz Hope she can get back to sleep :)

Pretty good Gatsby program from Karugina -- apparently there was a problem with her combo, but I was looking at my phone and missed it. Good speed.

Bolero for Gao. Down on the loop. Everything else looked good. Nice expression and energy.

Ninja program for Shoisaeva! She commits to the bit at the beginning, but could do more to carry it through the whole program.

Cusak has the makings of a power skater, but needs to get her speed up, and only has a double loop.

The playlist for the Jr Women SP has been started and currently contains the first 2 groups:

Gupta Espada skates for Spain, but was born in the Republic of New Jersey. :D Has a lot of work to do, but there are some nice qualities.

Cinema Paradiso with vocals for Shimogaki. She too has only a double loop, but she skated and presented well. All green blobs.

Another ice resurfacing underway after 4 of 6 groups.
