JGP #2 Ankara TUR - Dance RD & FD

Hemcke/Sladkov

Titanic, dramatic posing, wobbly twizzles, nice dance spin, another team getting low levels on steps and turns

After 2 of 4 groups it's ice resurfacing time.

I'm not thrilled with the calling at this event. I find it hard to believe that no one (barely anyone) can get up to even a level 2 on the step sequence or one foot turns. The French team, especially, appeared to have deeper edges than the rest of the field so far, but received very little credit for it; they are leading PCS at this point in the competition.

Kouevi/Homawoo

a little out of sync on twizzles-his only got a level 1, nice twizzling exit from her on the rotational lift, the usual low levels on steps and turns, nice unison, losing some speed toward the end (probably because of doing the choreo step sequence then, but music is very fast and they are not at that point--somewhat of a mismatch), nice comeback from the RD

Xing/Chau

twizzles levels 2 and 4, nice leg extension, pretty curve lift, really well-integrated choreo steps into the program, nice emerging performance quality, good skate

Did Mark say they are cousins? That’s a new one.

ETA: Brit girl is 14?! Wow she looks all grown up.

Marler Davies/Black

slowed down into the twizzles, nice knee bend in the steps (only base from her on midline), think they can develop the presentation more, so far it's very :D but not much else

ETA: she's wearing one of Lilah Fear's old dresses

Yucel/Pak

Eager crowd cheering them on, level 3 and 4 twizzles, good flow across the ice, looking down a bit much during the turns, fully realized concept, strongest presentation so far

Final warm-up group of 5 couples with 2
🇨🇦

I'm a little behind

Stapert/Korotcov

good unison on first twizzles, not so much on following ones, good choreo assisted jump, level 2s on turns, nice choreo slide move at dramatic point in music

Cincon-Debout/Celestino

nice first set of twizzles but slowed down the following ones, carrying good speed across the ice, good partnering through the circular steps, both skaters are giving face, really liked the energy that they sustained throughout the program

Hienne/Varescon

I immediately like the contrast that they are showing from the RD, nice to see them show range, level 2s on one foot turns, flowing edges, nice unison until twizzles--only level 1 for both with negative GOE--risky to have those so late in the program

Anderson/Dawson

good edges through the one foot turns, out of sync on twizzles but got the levels, like in RD, I would like to see more expression from him, nice basics, angsty program

Pidgaina/Koval

he gets good momentum across the ice on the rotational lift from almost a standstill, good levels on one foot turns, acrobatic straight line lift, skating with more maturity than last season, very good basics and ice coverage, also saving twizzles for the end--mistake from him only level one

Medal ceremonies (with sparklers) for dancers and men coming up on the live stream.

I wasn't able to watch any of this, so thanks for the reports. Looking forward to catching up later.

I came in partway through and watched to the end.

I have two new favorite teams. They are doomed.

I wish Pigdaina/Koval had better material, because they’re lovely skaters.

Some really great skating from these newer teams! The French have an ease of movement and striking performance and the Canadians have the seamless flow and glide through their elements. And, of course, the Ukrainians are a powerhouse team. Congrats to all the medalists.

The French team didn't come prepared with a flag and had to "borrow" the one used in the medal ceremony!

Does anyone know what determines whether a team would represent Hong Kong instead of China? Chau was born in Shenzhen, which borders Hong Kong, which may explain why he and Xing are representing HKG.

I like her a lot: I think she's got style.

She really does. Another one that impressed me was Lea Hienne. She has beautiful posture and a lot of poise. It cracked me up when she gestured to Louis to bow before he hugged her!

It's good to see so many young teams bringing it and taking advantage of the wide open field.

Clearly very emotional after that skate, and it was a very emotional performance. Solid skating technique, and some nice elements throughout if somewhat lacking in originality.

This was a choreography element, and the judges scores left this line blank.
Dance Spin 2
Choreo Character Step Sequence

They look great on the ice, but there's something missing in the performance at this point. A bit of an issue on the choreography sliding element that made it a bit sticky, and lacking in flow.

74.47 =11th Place
123.59 = 9th Place
