Another threat to the Caribbean as Maria forms and will become a hurricane.

Track will take it across portions of the region hit by Irma plus go directly over Puerto Rico.

The tropics are really ramping up.

Good Lord! What are the chances that the water will have cooled down enough so that Maria won't be much of a threat? I read today that Lee might fizzle out over the Atlantic?

:wall: :wall: :wall:

PR's relative luck is bound to run out eventually but ugh. :( And it's way way way too soon for any place that *was* directly hit by Irma.

Mostly likely go golfing somewhere.
He thinks the Whitehouse is a dump, so at least we don't have to worry about him installing a golf course over Michelle's lovely vegetable garden.

The spaghetti plots have this one hitting PR (which, large portions are probably STILL out of power after Irma), then veering right and going into the Atlantic, well to the east of Florida.

Maybe I missed something, but--Jose, Lee, Maria....what happened to the "K" storm?

Katia was in the gulf and hit Mexico around the time Irma hit Florida. This hurricane season is insane. :(

I want to know why they are using "Lee" again. We just HAD a Tropical Storm Lee 6 years ago, right on the heels of TS Irene.

I was under the impression that names are re-used every 6 years - so Lee would have occurred in 2011 and be reused now. If you check the 2011 list Harvey, Jose, Katia as well as Maria are also being reused this year. Irma was a new name this cycle as Irene was retired in 2011 due to a death occurring during it. Irma and Harvey will no doubt be retired at the end of this hurricane year due to deaths occurring during them.

Best of luck to those in Maria's path, especially Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Last cat 4/5 to make a direct hit on Puerto Rico was in 1932 but at least with modern technology, everyone is now aware that a major hurricane is coming and can prepare.

Here we go again. We got so lucky with Irma. It doesn't look like we'll be lucky this time. At least we now have the prep. We know what to keep, how to survive without power, who stays where, etc., etc. Still, people are very nervous.

It's been 19 years since we had the eye of a hurricane go right over us and get the entire island. We are frankly overdue.

We'll see how we manage. Wish us luck and keep us in your thoughts.

From the looks of it, Maria will join them :(

I too was wondering what happened to the K, but HeatherC explained it.

So sorry for Puerto Rico! I hope Maria weakens or better still, she bypassed them.

My family's in Aguada, the projected exit point. I feel totally sick right now.

Prayers for your family.

You are correct!

Jimena, hang in there. My family in St Croix(USVI) are looking to evacuate tomorrow. Possibly flying into South Carolina. So many of St. Thomas' evacuees are now on St. Croix. My aunt lives in Christiansted.

The airlines better be on notice. Price gouging people attempting to flee their homes to save their lives is HORRIBLE PUBLIC RELATIONS.

ETA: TS Lee is in the Atlantic too :(

I cannot imagine being hit twice in one year by a hurricane. Stay safe everyone.
