I don't think it's that unusual for a high profile author to get this sort of production credit. George R. R. Martin was an executive produce on Game of Thrones, for example. So was Michael Crichton on E.R., and Stephen King has a bunch of production credits.
You're definitely right in that it's not unusual and quite common. It's just that given the high profile of her behavior these past two or so years, and the conversation surrounding whether people can support the future HP-related projects if she's at all attached them (and will profit off of them), which was discussed with the new game, and then its success despite the discussion sort of showing JK Rowling is not poison to the franchise, the fact that Zaslav is going out of his way to shine a light on her active involvement with this upcoming series is more than just giving a creator some sort of credit to make fans feel better about the direction of the upcoming project. He as a vested interest in making sure her name is out there and shone in a positive light beyond profit.

I'm guessing Fantastic Beasts 4 is gone, though, if they're going to hit out with this, and JKR is going to be executive producer. Maybe the lack of success with that franchise partly motivated this?

Yeah, and it's pretty minimal risk + effort. Just throw money at the best talents they can afford to adapt the material that's already there, follow the film's production blueprints as a foundation regarding sets and costumes, and boom, a huge easy profit.

I watch "Prisoner" because of the director. I thought that was one of the best films of that year----in any genre.
It was wonderful! I love the director and it's also my favorite book so win-win.

To be fair, in book 5 he was being influenced by Voldemort, which fuelled a lot of his emotions. Plus he was purposefully kept isolated after just seeing one of his friends murdered, his first girlfriend was using him as her rebound guy, he was being slandered in the press, and he was dealing with half of his peers thinking he's an attention-seeking nutjob. Not to mention he spent the year being tortured by by two of his teachers (physically by one, mentally by another).
The problem, IMO, is that the books are all told from Harry's POV. It's less of an issue with the first couple but as the books go on, not knowing what other people are thinking and doing really detracts from the story. In the 5th book, being kept isolated means a lot of the action is happening without our knowledge. And not hearing other voices means there is nothing to temper Harry's angst and nothing to give us some perspective as to what is really going on (vs. his perspective of it).

Again, this is a bigger problem in the 7th book when we have absolutely no idea what is going on at Hogwarts when what was going on there was significant to the plot. (And much more interesting than half of what was going on with the main trio.)

One thing the series could correct is the ages of Harry’s parents etc.

In the books, Lily and James left school and pretty much were dragged straight into a war and were killed at 21.

Snape was probably only 32 or so when Harry arrived at Hogwarts. Sirius would have died in his mid 30s.

The actors in the movies were much older.

I think a lot of the stuff with Sirius, Snape, James and Lily etc makes a lot more sense when it is clear they are still young and the hurt of the first war was really recent

I don't think the age thing really mattered, because all of the Marauders + Lily, Snape, and Petunia were of similar age.

I think things like Snape holding onto feelings about Lily etc from school makes more sense when he’s actually only still 32 versus 60 or however old Rickman was when he played Snape.

I don't think Snape in the movie came across as holding onto feelings for Lily. It was more grief and holding onto regret about how he gave them away and indirectly caused her death.

Before Rickman was cast, reading the books, I'd always pictured Snape as in his late 40's, at the youngest, even if that made zero sense chronologically.

While I kind of get why they chose older actors, I do wish they had chosen more age appropriate ones. Like if Snape, Sirius, Lupin, etc, were correctly shown as in their early 30s when introduced, age appropriate British actors who could have been considered include Michael Sheen, Damian Lewis, Ewan McGregor, Ben Chaplin, Rufus Sewell, Dominic West, Stephen Moyer, Richard Armitage, Paul Bettany, Joseph Fiennes, Jonny Lee Miller, and more.

Even Gilderoy Lockhart - he's supposed to be younger than the main adults (around 28 when teaching), yet was played by then 42 year-old Kenneth Branagh. I mean Jude Law (who was 30 when the second movie came out) was right there! Age appropriate and at his peak 'dreaminess' (which was required for Lockhart). Or Hugh Dancy (would have been 27)! IMO an age appropriate actor would have made the students swooning over him a lot more believable.

Reminds me of this:

Q: Will there be any sequels?
A: Far more than anyone could ever predict or want.

I am not opposed to a reboot but it feels too soon. Wait until the original kids hit 45 or 50 and then do it.

I don't want anything about the first 7 movies to be redone. I would probably like a Marauder movie but I don't think there's enough material for more than 1 movie, maybe 2. But when a movie or tv show is beloved, don't touch it! I turned off both fantastic beasts movies - they were confusing & horrible. Glad I didn't pay for them.

This isn't necessary about the Harry Potter reboot, but it is about Harry Potter. Just in case any of y'all don't know, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking Championship begins Thursday, November 14th on Food Network at 8 p.m. eastern (7 p.m. central).

James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley) bring their exceptional charm and behind-the-scenes anecdotes as hosts of this most magical series, joined by esteemed, culinary judges, Carla Hall and Jozef Youssef. Across the six-episode season they will also be joined by special guests Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) who will help in evaluating the competitors’ showpieces and also share their own film stories.

Follow Food Network and Harry Potter across social to keep up with all the updates and be sure to set your calendars for November 14th!

Here's the article about it with more details from Food Network.

According to the article, it is still an unconfirmed rumor. IMO, if confirmed, this would preclude further belief in the alleged "promise" of more fidelity to the books (from the reboot) than in the movies.

I don't see how Snape being black would preclude fidelity to the books. There is more to a person than their race.

I started disliking JKR much more this year... IDK if I'll watch it anymore. I wasn't as resistant to it before. But now I am quite a bit. Let's see I guess.

‘Harry Potter’: Janet McTeer In Negotiations To Play McGonagall; Paapa Essiedu Near Deal To Play Snape In HBO Series

Rumours of a Black Snape have become stronger.

The only bad thing about it, for me, is that we will lose the conspiracy theories that Harry was actually Snape and Lily's son

John Lithgow for Dumbledore.

I don't see Paapa Essiedu being able to carry off that oily greasy unwanted person look that Snape had throughout his life. He's too pretty. I still have Alan Rickman as the measure for Snape though and I don't know how many people could live up to that yardstick.
I think that's fair too, Rickman was just perfect.

I actually don't know how anyone new can really live up to him or Maggie Smith. Some shoes are easier to fill than the others for the series.

Imelda Staunton reprising Umbridge would be gold, though, if she wants to do that. Her acting was perfect in her appearances. Although on that note, she was nowhere close to being the hideous, toad-like woman who was written up in the books. And Emma Watson wasn't a plain girl (up until book four). So maybe they will write Paapa Essiedu's Snape in a way that makes it work.
