You people that love to tout freedom of speech actually know so little about the first amendment it is laughable. Rosanne Barr’s tweet is dehumanizing, I think beyond what JK Rowling said about trans people, although Rowling has been associating recently with more right wing people, including Megan Phelps-Roper.

Regardless, the same legal principle would probably apply. People have the right to associate or not associate.

What Rowling objected to was terms like 'People who menstruate', instead of 'women' (or that weird concoction womxn). For that, she got called 'transphobic'. Next, she objected to a Scottish legal ruling where upon arrest, all a male arrestee had to do is declare he 'identifies' as a woman, and the legal system must treat him as such, including sentencing him to a woman's penitentiary, even if he was convicted of raping women. As for Megan Phelps-Roper being 'right wing', if your referring to her involvement in the Westboro Baptist Church, she left that 10 years ago, released an autobiography in 2019 renouncing the views she was raised under and denouncing the church, and in 2015 spoke at the Anti-Defamation League's Youth Leadership Conference. What in her current or recent political activities would identify her as 'right wing'? Also, may I remind you that Rowling was - and still is - a person of the political left, having supported (including a $1.24 million US donation to) the British Labour Party.

I'm of mixed mind about this. I've always thought that due to time constraints, the movies had to keep a LOT out, and thought (hypothetically) that a series style would be able to tell the entire story more effectively. I mean, if you just watched the movies, you wouldn't know how vital Neville is. You wouldn't know Voldemort's backstory, and so much more. There's also an opportunity for them to not completely butcher Ron and Ginny's characters.
However, even disregarding anyone's personal thoughts on JK Rowling, it will likely be hard for people to connect to the series, as the movie actors are so ingrained in peoples minds. Whoever plays Snape, for example, will have a lot to live up to. I mean,
I do hope, though, that they do better casting (age-wise) for the adults. I mean, James and Lily were 21 when they died, but were played by 40s-ish actors. Snape should have been 31 at the start of the series, but Alan Rickman was 55 when the first movie was released. And I hope that they stick with an all-British cast instead of casting well-known Americans (I know a lot of people in the past have "fan cast" Adam Driver as Snape) and having them do British accents.
I always thought it would be fun, if they were to do a reboot, if we saw the series from someone else's POV. Like Seamus. Or Crabbe/Goyle. Or even more entertianingly, Luna.
A lot of fans have also said that rather than a retelling of the story we know, they'd like to see a prequel focusing on James, Lily, Sirius, Lupin, Snape, Peter, etc, and their time at Hogwarts and leading up to the events we know.

I think one of the few things that could save it is if they just used HPverse as a sandbox instead of a reboot. If they did the Luna thing, we actually don't have any material till Harry's 5th year, and I think we'll constantly feel like we're missing out. Imagine us spending all our time on Luna's first year, and sure, we might get insight into her friendship with Ginny (there's some meat there, to be fair, because of all the things that do happen to Ginny that year), but we won't actually get to see all the things about the Chamber of Secrets be unraveled. Maybe it would work as the Weasley family? Ron's perspective especially? But I think a sandbox idea would be better, just HPverse in 2020s. That could be nice, especially if they go a route where they've found a way to mix muggle technology with magic...

I think nothing can save this. For one thing, the movies were pretty faithful to the books. Sure, they left things out, but they didn't change things all around either as many movie adaptations of books do.
They also were extremely lucky in their cast of the three young actors playing the lead. Those three had chemistry and that isn't something you can plan for, especially with child actors.
Finally, a tv show, especially a reboot, is not going to attract the creme of British acting.
Also, if JKR is involved in the writing, it's probably going to be crap like the Fantastic Beasts movies.
This is fair, and I agree the TV show isn't going to attract the top tier actors (not to mention they're all too old now... or dead). But I did watch the runthroughs of that new game, and I thought they did a decent job with the characters. I mean, they even let the main character learn dark magic in the new game. Not fully developed by any means, but professional TV scriptwriters can maybe do a better job, as long as they don't actually do a reboot. It could be fun. But in saying that, we could just have a new story altogether than just sticking to HPVerse.Also, if JKR is involved in the writing, it's probably going to be crap like the Fantastic Beasts movies.
It's funny how JKR is basically just the less intelligent, kiddie version of JRR Tolkien lol

I don't think she can.
Something that pissed me off and made me write her off ages ago was that after the 7th book came out, she said in interviews that she wasn't going to do anymore in the Harry Potter universe and then that mystery book came out under her pen name to bad reviews. And the next thing we knew, she was doing Pottermore and telling us Dumbledore was gay and wizards poop in their robes. And writing side books like The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a bunch of eBooks, and the Fantastic Beast movies.
I don't remember what the straw was that broke the camel's back but at some point, I decided that she had no respect for her fans and that she also had no new ideas.
Nagini maybe? That or Performatively Black Hermione are the ones for most ex-fans.

I think it was before that. Probably that she should have paired Harry with Hermoine after spending years explaining why he had to marry a Weasley because they were the family he never had (not to mention spending 7 books setting up Hermoine & Ron).
But really, it was Pottermore. For some reason, Pottermore aggravated me.

It did result in situations where I felt many of the romances had zero chemistry as the actors were never chosen with that kind of connection in mind.
It would be interesting to see how a series could work out. I wonder if they would have the same actors stay as Harry Potter etc or recast between seasons like The Crown?
I’d also be interested to see all the books shot in a way that wasn’t trying to make the earlier ones children movies.

A series format would also allow them to expand secondary plots lines and do more flashbacks.
Actually wouldn't it be cool if we had an hour long episode dedicated to the Deathly Hallows story (Tale of the Three Brothers)?

I always felt HP would have worked better as a series like the Worst Witch, but there just hasn’t been enough time or a reason for a reboot.
Reminds me of Richard Hatch, the Apollo actor from the original series (not the guy from survivor), claiming he was going to do a BSG movie or reboot that’s more based on a continuation of the 1977 series

Also, JKR is a person who knows how to create an intriguing world for fans to play in (with lots of impressive references and research to other works and mythologies and word play with the spells) and “fill in” the many blanks she left because she just isn’t the type to think about logistical things, which was the point of this children’s series. Now that she is trying to making more “adult”, all the shortcomings (with the work and her abilities and understanding of things and simplistic thinking) are being exposed, and the whole thing is just a lot less fun, and she herself has become a lot less fun throughout the years. It’ll probably be better if she took a long break from the series, quit her need to be important, and work on herself.

I'm not surprised that JK Rowling will be an active part of the show's creation, even if just on a consulting "executive producer" basis. Not only does the Harry Potter intellectual property have unlimited potential for non-stop incredible profit-margins, but showcasing JK Rowling as she is with no apologies is a pet project for the WarnerDiscovery CEO David Zaslav for a wider political ideology that is too big to ignore and that he as pretty much admitted to in various quotes and through his actions.

The movies are good because of Alan Rickman. I stopped reading during book 5 because I hated the teenage attitude of Harry Potter.

I don't think it's that unusual for a high profile author to get this sort of production credit. George R. R. Martin was an executive produce on Game of Thrones, for example. So was Michael Crichton on E.R., and Stephen King has a bunch of production credits.
Same. It was so standard teen and boring. I still enjoy the early books, though.

I watch "Prisoner" because of the director. I thought that was one of the best films of that year----in any genre.
I don't even rewatch the movies anymore let alone read the books.

To be fair, in book 5 he was being influenced by Voldemort, which fuelled a lot of his emotions. Plus he was purposefully kept isolated after just seeing one of his friends murdered, his first girlfriend was using him as her rebound guy, he was being slandered in the press, and he was dealing with half of his peers thinking he's an attention-seeking nutjob. Not to mention he spent the year being tortured by by two of his teachers (physically by one, mentally by another). I personally love book 5, but that's also because Sirius was my favourite character.
The Harry Potter movies are 'comfort' movies to me. They're the movies I watch when I'm sick, even if I find myself complaining about a lot of things in them (character misrepresentation, removing key plots, etc.)
