In terms of raising her profile with potential sponsors, DWTS is likely to be a lot more effective than the gymnastics tour.

But I'd guess that none of the gymnasts on the tour are going to be doing serious training while the tour is on, either.

I can see it coming down to Laurie and Lochte, then Laurie taking the cake . . . errr . . . Mirror Ball.

Everybody just loves her.

Laurie Hernandez reportedly is doing Dancing with the Stars this fall:

https://www.yahoo.com/tv/olympic-gymnast-laurie-hernandez-joins-224100538.html

Simone said that she couldn't do it this fall because of the tour. Is Laurie not doing the tour? I guess she won't be doing a lot of gymnastics training for a while. I guess this is a good opportunity for her, but I'm not a big fan of DWTS so I would have preferred that she focus on training and kick butt at the next Nationals and Worlds.

Me too, although given the injuries that McKayla and Aly had on the last post-Olympic tour, Laurie's health may best be preserved by doing DWTS rather than the tour.

Hopefully not getting to do the all-around in Rio helps keep her motivated to train. Worlds 2017 aren't until October (and Nationals are in August) so she has lots of time to get back into training. As I pointed out either earlier on this thread or somewhere else, Maroney did the tour, got injured, and had multiple surgeries in the fall of 2012 and she was still back and IMO in the best shape of her career by 2013 Nationals and Worlds so Laurie taking time away from training this fall isn't the end of the world. Probably best for her to strike while the iron is hot.

Yay for Laurie! But yuck that now I'm going to have to watch this stupid show again. I haven't watched it since Meryl and Charlie were on.

Same here. I actually enjoy the show to some extent but it is such a time suck and I have too much going on as it is. But I love Laurie so I'll probably watch for her sake.

Gabby Douglas in Hospital

Gabby Douglas will be missing the MTV Video Music Awards after she was admitted to a hospital for undisclosed reasons.

The gymnast announced the news on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself wrapped up in a blanket on a bed in what appeared to be a hotel room in New York City.

"Out of the hospital & resting comfortably! #FinalFive so sad I can't be with u all to present tonite@MTV thank u xoxo #VMAs #myview."

It is not immediately clear why Douglas was in the hospital or for how long. (A rep for Douglas did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

Get well soon Gabby!

Does anyone know where i can watch the Ranch (the documentary). It was on youtube before the olympics but it was removed. Also, I think you can watch it on the NBC website but I can't because it is geoblocked and i'm not from the USA. Thank you for your help :)

I'm sorry---I've looked for both "The Ranch" and "Karolyi" that were shown on NBC before and during the Olympics and I'm not finding anything outside of the NBC website. It is silly to do this---I think they should be available to see anytime, anywhere.

First I heard a reaction to painkillers, then her publicist said that she went back to the hospital on Sunday night due to complications from a mouth infection.

This article you linked to also says reaction to medications:
"Gabby is back in the hospital tonight being treated for a seriously infected past mouth injury," Douglas' publicist tells PEOPLE. "She continues to have deep swelling and adverse reactions to medications."

Hope she gets better ASAP.

While I think it must be very painful, I am willing to bet Gabby would have missed appearances because of swelling alone since she has been so criticized for her looks.

On a side note, having an infection/abscess in the mouth is a horrendous experience, and I wonder if she was already having issues with mouth/tooth discomfort in the previous few weeks, including at the Olympics. I bet she was because stuff like that does not just appear overnight, and the treatment with recovery (think recovering from a wisdom tooth extraction) is often so time consuming that it would have been impractical for her to do more than manage the condition if it was a stable condition. #thereasonforacrabbygabby

:watch: ... The hardworking Simone, Aly, Laurie, and Madison took a selfie at the VMAs with this self obsessed spotlight leaching amateur porn star :soapbox: ... They were probably to polite to say no :shuffle: ... So sad :wuzrobbed

ETA: OK, I'll be tolerant since the VMAs are like the prom the Final Five never had.

Gymnasts and figure skaters coming off of a good Olympics showing become instant A listers for a period of time. So DWTS must be thanking the gods that they landed Laurie. The "talent" with this last dwts group was not so memorable. I just wish the Shibs could participate. I would be ecstatic to see a Laurie/Shibs DWTS. Oh well.

Apparently Aimee Boorman is moving to Florida and will no longer be coaching Simone.:wuzrobbed

http://www.people.com/article/simone-biles-aimee-boorman-coach

I can't even. They were like the perfect athlete-coach pairing.

Wow! It's hard to imagine them not being a team. Wonder how that will affect Simone's decision to return later? Not that she would have an issue finding a new coach but I doubt she would want to leave her parents' gym to train with another coach. Wish Aimee the best-I have admired her attitude and her approach to coaching for a while now.

Was Aimee's move something that was in the works for a while? And she just delayed the actual move until Simone finished the Olympics?

It makes me wonder if perhaps Simone will retire instead of coming back for a second Olympics. Because starting with a brand-new coach would seem not that appealing.

According to another message board (gym related), people at Simone's gym knew for a while that she was leaving. Reportedly, she had only been working with Simone and had promised Simone's parents that she would stay until the Olympics (her family was supposedly already settled in Florida several months ago). Spoke with a mom whose daughter is at WCC and the head coach is actually Justin Laury who runs the Girls' program (elites, optionals, etc). If any of this reported is actually the case, people at her gym have been very good about keeping this under wraps!

I'm glad that it seems to be amicable on both sides...I was worried when I first read about it that it was one of those situations where the good relationship was a bit of a façade. It's silly, but naïve me would like to still believe in the awesomeness of the Simone-Aimee relationship. And it appears that I can from what is coming out behind the scenes.

I guess part of what I'm glad to hear is that there is a plan in place for continuity at WCC and that things will go on there without Aimee. I don't want to hear about Simone's parents' gym turning into a Dominique Moceanu situation but it doesn't sound like I'm going to.

I honestly think the Biles have a much better head on their shoulders than the Moceanus did in terms of their expectations and planning in regards to the gym.

I have always had that impression too, but when I first saw the Aimee news, I got a little worried. Glad to see that so far, my worries appear to have been unfounded. Given that the Biles gym has already lasted way longer than the Moceanu one, it's probably not really a fair comparison.

Actually, given that Simone wasn't even pro when the Biles gym started, I'd assume it was her parents' money and not hers that went into it, which is another reason not to be too worried for Biles.

Yes, it was her parent's retirement fund I believe. The Biles family pre-Simone-going-pro were pretty well-off.
