I'm thrilled for her but that landing makes me nervous. Those ankles and tendons are screaming.
Agreed.

Thankfully, from this angle, she isn't twisting on the mat. {{Cringe ?}}

I think that if Sam doesn't step his game up and have a similar level at the Olympic Trials there is NO way he can be send to Tokyo it will be useless. Terrible Day 1 for him, lots of mistakes, it's like he is not in form yet and I don't know if he will get better in 2 weeks time. He has the experience but don't know if time is by his side.

The 'new' kid on the block Brody Malone, solid Day 1 overall his vault was spectacular

The US can forget about a Team Medal in Tokyo but they can play their game well and choose 1 all arounder and 3 specialist for the 4 person team plus the option of 1 extra individual quota if they win it this weekend at the Panam Qualifier. Thus they can get some hardware from the individual event finals.

Pommel Horse is looking good for the americans right now for example.

I feel like USAG is too set in their ways to straight up give up on the idea of picking the team that will score highest in the team event, but that’s what they should do. The men are not medal contenders in the team event. Let it go, toss the team all around out the window, and pick the 4-5 guys with the best individual medal chances.

I cannot see USAG being smart enough for that, though.

The GB men’s team have been doing this for years with great success and they get so much backlash for it! It’s a really smart way of winning medals though.
I wish the GB women’s team was selected the same way.

Sam is a head case TTW and always chokes at big international meets. It is a blessing for USA if his performances now leave him off the Olympic team. I do not know him personally, but he comes across as arrogant.

The new guy, Brody, was fun in his interview with Andrea Joyce. Then Nastia said that she was rooting for him. I took that as another indication that USAG is fed up with Sam.

Modi disappointed. Based on all his time at his home gym relearning basics, I wish he could straighten his knees and stand up less hunchy.

Well, I pulled the trigger and will be driving to Fort Worth this afternoon to catch night one of the women's competition and see the GOAT just in case she decides to retire after this year. Is anyone else from FSU going?
Enjoy! I was lucky enough to see the GOAT in Glasgow.

ETA: just seen the women's British team is getting announced on Monday. I'm kind of dreading it since I haven't recalled a British women's Olympic selection I've agreed with.

Of course, it is impossible to tell from reading just one article. But I confess, my stage mom alarm bells went off when I read this article about Konnor. (I was raised by a stage mom, and paid a stiff price for it in my adult life, so my stage mom radar is very sensitive..)

I hope Konnor is doing gymnastics because she loves it, and not because it is the dream of the adults in her life...

I have been doing this a while. I have never -- not including all the way back to when I covered high schools a billion years ago -- had a better, more thoughtful, more honest interview w/the parent of any athlete in any sport in my entire career.

I think a team of wiskus yul brody and whoever would have as much a shot at individual medals as most other teams. Diab penev gage and nedoroscik are all good at one or 2 events so they make it impossible to choose

I made a similar comment on Gymcastics facebook page on this article. The use of we/our is really odd and potentially troubling. (I'm ex performing arts too and know a stage mother when I see one!) Anyway I got absolutely piled on for it.

Brody Malone was fantastic last night. That vault was a thing of beauty. Then I found out he was a hardcore Trumper. I'm just going to try and ignore that and focus on enjoying his great gymnastics!

With one subdivision to go Paul Juda (sp?) is in first place All Around with 83.000 and grabs one of the 2 quotas available

The US is almost sure of one spot given that the current third and last rotation has gymnasts from Chile, Mexico and Dominican Republic, teams that most likely wont have any gymnast capable of surpassing the american

Judges on vault are being so lenient. Simone's step back should have been at least three tenths. No way should Chelsie had a 9.3 for execution.
