I find rhythmic gymnastics a lot more artistic than "artistic" gymnastics, even setting aside the tumbling runs.

Too many props making rhythmic seem more gimmicky for my tastes, but I can see why others disagree. I do think both have been less artistic as time goes by.

I've been following Laurie Hernandez on Instagram. Who knows if there is a spot for her on a 4 person team, but her improvement over the past 6 months is impressive!

You can tell she actually likes gymnastics.

It appears she has all her tumbling passes from the last Olympic cycle, but I doubt she has the endurance yet for a full routine.

I really hope this goes well for her. She’ll provide a lot of personality for the team if she qualifies.

Per the FIG database, Hernandez doesn't have an active license (not sure how often they update). Hopefully USAG is on that. It would nice to see her compete internationally somewhere this year.

I wish Laurie had stayed in or come back earlier and made it to Worlds.

Regardless, if she shows up and can perform reasonably well to the every 4 year fan, she will be doing USA Gymnastics a favor.

The way I see the U .S team is sure to made up of Biles, Lee, and a vault/floor specialist who also does AA (Skinner or Carey probably). So Hernandez would have to fill the other spot.

Does Morgan Hurd have any chance to make the team? I guess it’ll depend on whether she can upgrade. I think her musicality is tops.

I think she definitely has a shot. If she hits cold she probably gets that other spot I refer to. I just don't have faith in her to do that now. She seems increasingly inconsistent. Last year showed she won't get away with making mistakes anymore.

I think she has a chance given she is an all around gymnast.

However, last year seemingly the gymnastics of everybody around her matured while her consistency, difficulty, and execution degraded.

I think part of the problem was that she attempted a ridiculously hard competition schedule. Hopefully she won't repeat that this year. I would bet that a tem would not have Laurie and Morgan on it. Even though Laurie hasn't competed in several years, she is extremely consistent. I'm still a little salty she didn't get to compete in the all-around in 2016.

Simone got her sternum pierced!
I saw that yesterday and like to fall off the chair. My hairline is gone....lol. But I love that she’s showing us other sides to her besides just the smiley athlete. But I couldn’t do it! I couldn’t handle double ear piercings! 😀

I think they implant some sort of anchor. It allegedly takes 1-3 months to heal properly so I am surprised she did it around an Olympic year. What if it got infected and affected her training! Yikes!
