Does anyone realistically think there’s any chance of Gubanova skating for Canada? If so, I have some swamp land in Florida to sell you.
Of course there's a chance. why wouldn't they take Nastya or a handful of other tier three or tier four Russian ladies who have no future in Russian figure skating?

By the way I live in the FLA and I ain't interested in no swampland. ;)

The last skating related on Goubanova is from Sept 28 - she is advertising/offering her training services for young skaters.
Off topic, but Gubanova is very good-looking. She reminds me of Tami Stronach from Neverending story:
Tami is not only an actress, but also a professional dancer.
So far the most beautiful skaters for me are:
Alyona Kostornaya, Alexia Paganini, Yuna Kim and Anastasiya Gubanova
Sergei Rozanov (The Russian king of beauty), Yuzuru Hanyu and Nathan Chen

If she knew how much traction she was getting on this thread I'm sure she would be reconsidering her future plans. Because if you're life/your choices take up this much of people you've never met's bandwidth, clearly your career is not finished!.

I can’t see any proof that she is thinking that she is finished. The fact that she wants to have a few students doesn’t mean anything. She may want to earn some pocket money while she is skating and studying, or she might be considering her future career path and wants to try whether she would enjoy being a coach. That doesn’t necessarily mean that she would be ready to stop skating competitively now although it is a possibility. But it is also a possibility that she may want to switch countries. We will have to wait and see.

Back to the actual news:

Stepanova/Bukin and Shevchenko/Eremenko are OUT of Rostelecom, Irina Zhuk says almost entire group had c19 and didn't have enough time to prepare for the event

Russian Cup Final is scheduled for the end of February in Veliky Novgorod, but given the situation with c19, more information should be available in December

Wow, so they were all ill. I thought the news before was that they had to isolate, not that they were actually ill! Let’s hope none of them has any permanent health problems.

Elizaveta Nugumanova has replaced Medvedeva at Rostelecom Cup:

The new ice dance teams replacing S/B and S/E at RC are:

Ekaterina MIRONOVA / Evgenii USTENKO (placed 12th in Senior at the past 2 Russian Nationals): http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00103700.htm

Viktoria SEMENJUK / Ilya YUKHIMUK, a new team for BLR (no ISU bio yet) - they won Ice Star in Minsk last month 151.85 (91.37 FD).

Advertising her services as in coaching young kids and getting paid by their parents to do so?
That's interesting.

Nugumanova is replacing Zhenya in Rostelecom. This again makes me wonder where the hell is nastya? She skated in three Russian Nationals as a senior and placed between 5th and 10th all three times which is super respectable considering the great depth of the Russian ladies and how underscored she has always been domestically. Nastya won silver and could have been gold in many people's opinions at the Russian Cup Final in February. She was very solid and looked like she was through puberty and I thought her career would be on the upswing again. No matter how Charming Little Liza is and she is a doll she's a much lesser skater than Nastya is and to see her getting 2 cup stages and now Rostelcom is hard to take.
if Gubanova was really changing federations we would have heard something by now like we have with other skaters when they change. To me it's like Nastya has been blackballed in her career by the Federation. My guess it's the butcher Buyanova who bad-mouthed nastya publicly when she expelled her probably has done the same thing behind the scenes hurting her with the Federation. I remember when anastasiya went to Buyanova over and TAT I had such high hopes. Going to them turned out to be a bad move for her career. Same with Polina Masha and Elena. That's why I call Buyanova the butcher. ;)

And all of my criticisms of others does not mean Nastya is not to blame for some of the predicament in her career. She's probably very impetuous and was told how great she is from a very young age when she was a fantastic novice skater. I think changing coaches three times in three years was very hard for her in terms of stability and consistency and she was going through that damn puberty too. That didn't help.

I hope we see her again but I'm beginning to wonder.

Very sorry Zhenya just can't fire this year. That damn back injury is lingering and I'm starting to think she should just take the whole season off see if that back injury can really heal. because starting training and then stopping and then starting training and stopping is probably not helping her back at this point.

Exactly.

We've seen all of the Russian girls and ladies competing this season except for Nastya and Ksenia. this discussion started a couple days ago and I asked where in the world are they? Use ia is injured or ill or something and we still don't know about Nastya. I hope the best for both of them but it's such a tough Sport and such a tough life. Especially when the breaks don't go your way.

Interview with Liza Tuktamysheva for Russian GQ
Some small excerpts I liked:

- I want to clarify this: you have repeatedly said that the adult figure skating was captured by children ...
- I don't really need to speak on this topic at all. In my case, it is not good to say that I am for femininity, grace, because I myself was in the place of these young skaters. But at that time, Adelina and I were a unique phenomenon, back then all figure skaters was very feminine, adult. And now at the Russian championship the girls are almost ten years younger than me, and this is the norm now. In general, the answer is: in figure skating you want to have the balance. Jumping quads is great. But quads are not enough for the sport to exist.
...
- In your opinion, why figure skaters who got into adult sports early and win the Olympics retire at such a young age? It's about Sotnikova and Lipnitskaya, for example.
- I think a lot of energy and nerves was invested in getting to the Games and winning. And it is difficult for people to stay at the same level for a long time. And if you give yourself a year off, then it is very difficult to get back in shape, to return to training. It's like a candy. You try something sweet, you will like it, and you want more.
- Do you want to - because you haven't tried such sweets before?
- Yes. It's hard to stay in top shape. Win the Olympics, show your maximum. Then devastation sets in, and emotionally it can be difficult. You understand what is behind all the victories. Nobody can skate on the same high level for ten years. Well, except for Irina Slutskaya.
- And you.
- I had many falls, deep pits. I love this thing. And we have a very trusting relationship with my coach. I work, he sees it, and we are in contact. He doesn't try to change me. He knows that I am. And even if I fail, he doesn't forget about me.
...
- I don’t like to ruin my health, I don’t want to leave this sport as a sick and injured person. I would like to start another life, in which I'd know what to do, by the time I consciously decide to retire. Also, my mother always supported me, I took over her this approach to figure skating. She never went deep into this sport, does not know the names of the elements, and when something bad happens, my mother says: “So what? It's just figure skating. You are a healthy girl, you will be fine." Perhaps because of my attitude to sports, I did not win the Olympics when I had the opportunity. But I prefer it this way.
...
- Is it possible to perform quads and other complex elements today and get to deal with the health consequences tomorrow?
- Interest question. It seems to me that only with time we will find out, quads are still rather new. To say that this is a huge strain on the body is to say nothing.
...
- I didn't make it to the Grand Prix final. I was in good shape, but I was literally a couple of points away from it. So there was a big break and there was a lot of time to learn something new. And during all last season, Alexei Nikolaevich, little by little, inspired me that I could learn a quad. I was doing it on the lounge at the very beginning of the season, and I suddenly had a desire to do it without outside help. And when that desire arises, I cannot be stopped. I worked with a lounge for another week, and then in a couple of days I landed that quad.

Gorshkov: the decision on admission to the Russian championship will be made in the interests of the national team
The tournament will be held in Chelyabinsk from 23 to 27 December

Google translated excerpt:

"We will consider this issue, and the decision will be made based on the situation that the c*ronavirus dictates to us every day. The issue of admission to the Russian Championship will be resolved exclusively so as not to harm the preparation of the national team," Gorshkov said.

Four of the five stages of the Russian Cup have already passed, the fifth will be held from 5 to 8 December in Moscow. So far, two-time world champion, silver medalist of the Games in Pyeongchang Evgenia Medvedeva, Olympic champion Alina Zagitova, silver and bronze medalists of European championships, dancers Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin have not taken part in any of the stages, from the free program of the first stage of the cup due to the injury of a partner the European champions Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov starred; the silver medalist of the European Championship Artur Danielyan missed the starts due to an ankle injury.

I wonder what Medvedeva thinks about her decision to go back to Russia.
I say that because Jason Brown credits Brian Orser with getting him skating again. Brian was able to get Jason's injuries healed and to get him back to competing.

Medvedeva is not back to competing yet. I am just worried.

Orser can't heal Medvedeva's back injury...
Of course. He can't. What he CAN do is make sure both her back heals and there strength returns. And that those two things are handled safely without regard to competitions or external factors..

And it is a byatch. Athletes and people with high pain tolerance are the worst to rehab. IMO Skaters are trained to push through not go slow.

Anyone know what exactly is wrong with her back?

Pinched nerve. She is back on the ice, she's probably not ready for competitions.

It will be first competition where Scherbakova, Trusova and Kostornaya compete all three against each other since January. I am quite curious about the outcome. Based on the previous competitions, it sems that the judges will be keen to hold Scherbakova up as they did with Valieva, but Trusova may be able to outjump her. Kostornaya probably won’t be at her full strength yet. But one never knows with these girls in which order they will place.

And then Valieva would beat all of them.

I'm also not sure Valieva has as much nerve under pressure as the others.
Not only that, but I don’t think Valieva will be marked quite the same in international events as she is in Russia. At the Russian cup I felt the judges were quite strongly motivated to make her a winner, no matter what. At the international events, the judges will be a bit more objective, and Trusova (and Scherbakova and Kostornaya) will have an advantage because it is their second senior season and they already built reputation last season. Also, in international competitions Valieva will not be padded by those various Bonus points that skaters get only in Russia. At the Russian cup she got three in the SP and three in the FS. It will make it much easier to beat her when she is not getting this padding from overgenerous judges. I have no doubts that if she is clean, she is going to be marked decently, just not the same way as in Russia.

Lovely jump. I like the way Tuktamysheva doesn't use a lot of arms in her jumps.

Hopefully she will land this in competition some day so she can mark the achievement.

She doesn't have to worry about international scores for at least 10 months I think. She might be propped up by the Russian judges at Nationals so she can go into next season with a senior medal and reputation. I expect Rostelecom and Nationals will be a battle for first between Anna and Sasha. And Kamila might knock Alena off the Nationals podium if she can keep it together. It's harder to predict these days with no one skating clean, all these girls are vulnerable to meltdowns when they see each other.

Yes, but even in ten month’s time she will be a new on the senior level, and that will be in the olympic season. While that worked out fine for Zagitova, senior ladies didn’t do quads at that time.

Sergei Dobroskokov, one of Pavliuchenko/Khodykin's coaches, is quoted in this article:
"After (the [3rd] stage in Sochi) Denis caught a cold, there was a strong ARVI, they thought that the c*ronavirus, but no, he just got sick. We pass the tests all the time, all are negative. We took off the Grand Prix because he was weak and his health did not allow him to perform in full strength. Health is above all. Dasha (Pavlyuchenko) is all right, she is lively", - said Dobroskokov by phone.
Khodykin also has knee problems, which is why he cannot perform a triple flip efficiently.
"Now, in parallel, we are solving his problem with the cruciate ligament. His ARVI has passed, he deals with his knee, and he consults with various specialists. Everything has collapsed, the stage in Sochi has left us sideways. And I was not allowed there, since I am 65+ years old, we will prepare for the Russian Championship, "added Dobroskokov.
Is "ARVI" the flu?
