What does that mean?
She switched? Does both?
Well.... there is no answer yet. During summer Tarakanova posted several photos of practicing figure skating on rollers with the Russian National Team at Dubna Training Camp. As of yesterday she removed most of those photos and posted another one - ice skating at a public ice rink during public session. She said few comments that i add up to "I want to make a mark in figure skating" (without saying "ice" or "roller"). Tarakanova obviously grew - in height and weight, she'll need to make adjustments for her jumps.

St. Petersburg is not allowing minors (<18) to compete in their region until after New Year due to well you know. Debate I've seen so far: region specific or nation wide?

Figure skating competitions in St. Petersburg canceled until January 1

Figure skating competitions in St. Petersburg have been canceled until January 1 due to an unclear outlook for the epidemiological situation, Alena Leonova, chairman of the athletes' commission of the St. Petersburg Figure Skating Federation, told RIA Novosti.

"The competition in St. Petersburg has been cancelled until January 1," Leonova said by phone. - At the same time, the option of holding the Panin-Kolomenkin Memorial is being considered, but with the admission of athletes at least 18 years old. Apparently, if this happens, the competition will be held only in the category of masters of sports. In my opinion, 11 boys and 8 girls are recruited in this category in St. Petersburg."

The silver medalist of the 2012 World Championship noted that it is also planned to hold closed rentals in St. Petersburg in the autumn-winter period of this year.

"These are not competitions, but training rentals for specialists. There, apparently, juniors will be able to skate programs. As for the St. Petersburg Cup, it may be that they will leave the first two stages (only for athletes over the age of 18), after which the Panin-Kolomenkin Memorial is possible, and then there will be no tournaments until January 1. The control rentals will take place on August 26-28," Leonova added.

Dmitriev: difficulties await Russian juniors due to the change in the calendar

“Everyone wants to enter the season, they want to compete, but the problem will be serious - the junior Grand Prix series has been canceled,” Dmitriev said. “As for internal starts, Rospotrebnadzor allowed juniors to participate only in two competitions. But before they could participate in adults competitions, and in junior at the stages of the Cup of Russia, they got up to four or six starts before the championship of Russia, but now this is not possible, plus there are certain restrictions in the conduct of competitions. "

"These two starts, of course, are not enough - now they will not have the opportunity to try themselves at different competitions before important tournaments,"
the specialist noted.

Russian forums have spiraled into mass confusion. Who is considered a junior? Those less than 18 (well hello Trusova, Kostornaia, Mozalev, Panfilova and crew 👋) or those deemed juniors by the RusFed (well hello senior Valieva 👋 ). St Pete is clear but what about the rest of the nation..............I think so far from what I get, it's region specific but Dmitriev Sr is in Moscow no? IDK. Stay tuned!:watch:

Velikova: canceling figure skating competitions in St. Petersburg is a nightmare

Cancellation of competitions in St. Petersburg before January 1 will be a nightmare for the city's skaters, Honored Coach of Russia Lyudmila Velikova told RIA Novosti .

Earlier, the chairman of the commission of athletes of the Federation of Figure Skating in St. Petersburg, Alena Leonova, told RIA Novosti that the figure skating competition in St. Petersburg was canceled until January 1, the option of holding the Panin-Kolomenkin Memorial, two stages of the City Cup with admission of athletes at least 18 years old, is being considered.

"On August 26-28 we will skate (figure skaters of St. Petersburg), and the executive committee of the St. Petersburg Figure Skating Federation canceled the competition until January 1. This is very bad. How can children be interested in skating when there are no competitions? the fact that the junior Grand Prix series has been canceled," Velikova said by phone.

The Russian Figure Skating Federation plans to hold stages of the Russian Cup.

"Now a new system is being developed, when during all this time (before January 1) we will have only two starts (outside of St. Petersburg). At the stages of the Russian Cup there will be no more than 8 pairs, they will be called by name. It turns out (control) skates in fact, to nothing, because we have almost no place to compete. If the Russian Cup is canceled, then there will be no place to compete at all," Velikova noted. "How will the selection for the Russian championship be held? And then the World Junior Championship. And will it be be carried out? "

"Cancellation of competitions in St. Petersburg, perhaps the right step, but it is harmful to the sport,"
- added the agency's interlocutor.

If they can’t compete, does it mean that they won’t be able to qualify for the nationals? Russian junior nationals usually take place in January, but skaters have to qualify for it by attending Russian cup events that take place between September and December. So that would mean that Russian junior nationals will be only for Mosow skaters? That would have impact not only on the selection for junior worlds, but also funding for the next season. Based on the results from nationals skaters are getting into the national team and the funding is connected with that.

'Funny' to read that Kostiukovich ditched Ialin and Briukhanov got ditched by Vislobokova.
I would have bet in both ways it was the other way around

Nice to read Polina is still in good terms with Ialin.

Not sure I like that K/B will go the style route of K/I, as I loved the classic style of Briukhanov. But will need to see.

The part about the non-selection of K/I for JGP sounded quite strange and bizarre. We know RUS has a great depth in junior pairs; still I cannot understand how they have not been given a chance at least once in that season.

Something might have been lost in translation here, but russian cup entries are selected by fed? Who skates when and where?

Russian federation often gives JGP events based on what they see at the test skates. Junior nationals are in January, junior worlds in March, and test skates in August, therefore it makes much more sense to hand out the assignments based on how the skaters look in august, rather than how they were five and seven months before. I have suspicion that they thought she was overweight (she said they told her she should lose weight), so they decidd that she is too much out of shape. If I recall correctly, she didn’t bother to show any jumps and they didn’t look particularly strong last year at the test skates.

I am not surprised it was Polina who initiated the split. Ialin had to move to seniors, she has still two more years of junior eligibility. If they were as strong as they were a year ago, it would be fine to take the risk and move with him. But as they were this season, they would not get any GP events. They might do some challengers, but the chance is that they would end up like Kudriavtseva/Spiridonov. It could be very difficult for them to even qualify for the senior nationals. This way, with a younger partner, she has a pretty good chance getting two JGP events (of course not this season because of the virus, but possibly next season), they might get to JGPF, has a chance to fight for the spot at junior worlds, and she has two years to invest into the new partnership to be ready for seniors. I think it was definitely the right step for her. Not sure if it was right for Ialin, but their results were going down...

Vislobokova/Briukhanov, I also expected it to be him who would initiate the split. Not sure what would she has to gain to want to split up.

Seems that way because there is a limit on how many athletes can go to the event. The list are supposed to be released soon.

Tatyana Mishina: And so the season is without international starts, there will be no tournaments in St. Petersburg either. This is bad.

“I didn't know that they wanted to cancel all the competitions,” Mishina admitted. - I listened to the program “Overtime with Gennady Orlov” on Ekho Moskvy last week, in which it was said that there is a decree according to which they want to ban athletes under 18 from participating in competitions. Then for several days there was no confirmation, and I thought that nothing like this would happen ...

This is, of course, bad. The guys train in order to perform and compete. For them, this is exactly the incentive to keep in shape and roll out programs. And so the season is without international starts, so there will be no tournaments in St. Petersburg either ...

- How do students react to recent events?
- Our guys are preparing, while there are no decadent moods. Now they are preparing for the show in groups in St. Petersburg. They just wanted to clarify whether the figure skaters under 18 will skate. But today's news is unsettling. Perhaps Alena Leonova is already aware, although the general meeting of Federation members is in September.

Even Gennady Sergeevich said that the lack of competition is a disaster for athletes. It's not just about skaters, but all kinds of sports. Any competition is a real stimulus for everyday work. First we overcame the forced [spring-summer] break, got in shape, held a training camp, and now such news ...

Test skates will take place on August 26 - 28 in St. Petersburg. On September 3, a general meeting of the members of the St. Petersburg Figure Skating Federation will take place.

"Tutberidze's headquarters and the federation consulted." Piseev supported Valieva's invitation to adult starts

The honorary president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Valentin Piseev spoke about the inclusion of 14-year-old Kamila Valieva in the list of participants of adult control rentals and supported the possible invitation of the figure skater to the Russian Cup in the category of Master of Sport, where members of the main Russian national team will perform.

- If there are unique athletes like Valiyeva - why not let her to adult starts? There's no need for a call- up. The world junior champions have always been allowed to the adult championship of Russia. I read: here, why should others not be allowed to? But there are special athletes. The coach sees that they will go far.

"Will Usacheva and Khromykh be offended?

"Why? Valieva is bright. You can't let anyone in, either. But I'm not arguing, let's think about it. I don't rule out anyone else being allowed in. For example, we have a lot of talented boys, and the guys have more problems in the international arena than girls. But these should be the units in which the coach is confident and supported by the federation. Everyone is talking about Valieva, she obviously stands out. We have to let it happen.

- In other words, Tutberidze's coaching staff and the federation had a meeting, and a decision was made?

- Yes, of course, the coaching board and the executive committee also discussed and decided to add her to the list of participants of adult rentals. We need to offer viable ideas. And the responsible bodies of the federation, specialists, they are not outsiders, they see the situation from the inside. Or you will listen from the outside - well, such eccentrics, put forward very strange ideas. Let's take all of the juniors... It's not credible. (Dmitry Kuznetsov)

Wow, so the juniors who are age eligible as seniors next season have to choose (like anyone else) whether they want to do Russian cups juniors and have a chance to qualify for the junior worlds, or to compete in senior Russian cup events, which would place them next year on the main senior team for funding (but no chance to qualify for junior worlds). In the past skaters could compete at nationals in both juniors and seniors, if they qualified to juniors through JGP and to seniors through JGPF or Russian cups. Now when the route is only one and they have to choose whether junior or senior, it seems no one will be able to compete in both junior and senior nationals?

From my understanding juniors (14+) can compete at senor cups to qualify for both senior and junior nationals. However, if they do not qualify for senior nationals they will not qualify for junior nationals. It's a risk for sure but what is sport without risk :watch:

The language it is written in is awful (or it may be the translation) but I thought the note under point two says that juniors can do Russian cups only in one category, juniors or seniors. Or am I wrong?

Thanks @DobrinFan
based on the amount of points scored on these stages (current table of scoring for places in stages Cup of Russia - Appendix 4 Regulations).
Can someone clarify this?
New scoring system?
Or are they going with 18,16,14,... again?

Yes, but those who qualify for senior nationals will automatically qualify for junior nationals. Not really an issue with ladies, but junior men will have to think carefully about whether they want to risk trying for senior nationals by competing in seniors, not making it and thus not making junior nationals either

I hope some of the junior boys really think here. I have 11 juniors that can compete and have at least decent 3A and quad(s) attempts. Then I have 16 possible senior contenders, knock out 3-4 who probably won't beat even the juniors and Voronov (retired?) and that's still a lot. Someone is not going to make it. I hope the juniors and their teams really think hard.

Full interview from Mishina just released
https://www.sportsdaily.ru/articles/mishina-o-kolyade-valievoj-figurnom-katanii-v-peterburge

Liza & Sonia:
....Although our girls are now on the rise. I'm talking about Lisa [Tuktamysheva] and Sonya [Samodurova]. They managed to recover in a short period. It is clear that these girls will definitely participate in competitions. But the rest will be much more difficult.

Lutfullin:
- And Gleb Lutfullin?
- He's not ready yet, he had back problems. If earlier these skates determined the potential of skaters to participate in the Grand Prix series, then this year, due to the cancellation of the series, it made no sense to lead an unprepared athlete.

Semenenko:
.... Zhenya Semenenko has now gone with Alexei Nikolaevich to the skates of the Russian junior team in Novogorsk. There is a plan to qualify for both junior and adult starts of the Russian Cup. Zhenya will show himself. He was preparing to the fullest, without discounts on whether there will be starts after the rentals or not

Kolyada:
- Nothing is heard about Mikhail Kolyada. How does he show himself in the training process? What is his success?
- Misha trains well, fits well into the group, demonstrates efficiency, and studies with interest. The short program has already been staged, it was done by Tatyana Nikolaevna Prokofieva. Ilya Averbukh promised to do the free program. But since he is very busy on the "Ice Age", it does not work yet. But Ilya and I have already worked, he is not one of those who promises and does not. This week he should come to St. Petersburg.

- What does Kolyada have with jumping?
- There is a quadruple toe loop, restores a quadruple salchow. He already jumped it, but because of the long break, almost a year, he has to actively work on it. He is also working on the quadruple lutz. So Misha is actively training. Let's see how Misha will show himself at the test skates. Now everything looks good, it demonstrates the elements that we restored steadily.

- No more problems with sinusitis?
- Not. He has recovered, so his health allows him to train at full strength.

- While Alexey Nikolaevich is in Moscow, do you work with Mikhail and other students together with Tatiana Prokofieva?
- Yes of course. We have an established group. And our juniors with Artur Gachinsky are training at the Ice Arena at Peredovikov. There is not enough ice in "Yubileiny", so they were divided in this way.

More Q&A in the link above.

It will never be 100% clear because there are many overlapping factors: Money, lack of sponsors, lack of guaranteed events due to xxxxxxxx and uncertainty in the future.

I believe Trusova explained it. Why can't you accept it?
Both ladies and parents expected sponsors to come running, but they did not. Yana Rudkovskaya is a "business lady" and promised to find them sponsors. The issue of "why Kostornaya is not getting sponsors" was a subject of several articles this Spring. And Trusova can't figure out either why with all her cute dressed up dogs and her jumps she is not getting much commercial attention. The most worried ones were their parents.

Tinami, Rudkovskaya is a business woman but I believe she had no one word about the sponsors...she didn't promise anything. Can you show me the article when she said this??????

Lack of shows and uncertainty of prize money - Plushenko signed them up for his winter shows, one of them is "Snow Maiden". With Lipnitzkaya out being mother and Sotnikova's popularity fading, Trus and Kost are Plushy's new stars, with contracts and guaranteed pay.

This is just your supposition.

Pluschenko is also paying them a "stipend" either a one time fee, or in portions. Both families will take whatever money they can make now, because there is no guarantee the girls will win Olympics, or if Olympics will even take place in their time span. Trusova can't jump like that forever, and Kostornaya announced she is going to Med school after 2022.

Trusova's family is rich. No need Plushenko's money. :shuffle: Will Plushenko paying them anything? Where did you read this?? Plus you even know he is paying them stipend "a one time fee, or in portions" This is just your supposition again.

Then of course "personal". Kostornaya did not get alone with a few girls in the main group, bunch of little things that added up to resentment on both sides, the "other girls" would not accept Kostornaya's self-appointed prima status and stood up to her. Kostornaya did not want to train with them on ice or in a gym.

You can know this from Eteri's post on IG. But she said fake thing in it ( ( the agreement between Kotornaya and Plushenko was reached in May-this is totally stupidity ) so this is also questionable.

Interesting interview: https://fs-gossips.com/honorary-pre...iseev-about-big-transfers-and-kamila-valieva/

Probably the most interesting thing was the open politicking in it. Maybe one day we will again have a situation in Russia where the individual skater is the star and not the coach.

I do hope that perhaps one of the girls can try to over turn the narrative that the youngest girl closest to 15 will come out on top at the Olympics. There's certainly this undercurrent that the window of Trusova, Kostornaya, Shcherbakova is closing and it will soon be Valieva's time. But not that it is without basis, as we have seen the windows of Medvedeva and Zagitova and Sotnikova, Radionova, Lipnitkskaya close almost as soon as they opened.

But I feel he does have a point. Regardless whether Kostornaya did or did not request some conditions with whom she is willing to skate, the bottom line is, there is a rule in place about transitions to a different skating school. The transfer window is two months, April and May, and every Russian skater is aware of that. So it is not so unreasonable to ask skaters to stick to it, and if they don’t, there should be some financial consequences. I wouldn’t be upset if they cut her funding, and if Pluschenko is happy to fund her, that’s fine. But I am quite believer in rules and consequences. If there are no consequences, why bother with rules, if no one reinforces them and therefore no one have to stick to them?

Has Kostornaia asked for an exception for her funding to be moved to Plushenko? If I'm following the thread correctly, the two month window for changing coaches outside one's club is about being able to transfer funding, not being blocked from changing coaches outside the club, if the skater and new coach come to an agreement about funding the training.

This is perfectly understandable as a model: since the clubs are there to produce champions for the country, they are funded/subsidized by the government to avoid free market incentives. But, at a certain point, a club needs to know that its funding is set, so that they can come up with a budget and make the appropriate commitments to the team, including consultants. So, yeah, her training allocation should stay with Tutberidze's rink.
