Radionova looked absolutely awful...her score was generous. I was flipping between competitions, so I missed Daria except to see her tears at the end and Tsareva awkwardly attempting to console her.

Petr just won his 2nd gold and is the top qualifier to the JGP Final. I saw him in Richmond and he was soooo good! I love everything about his skating!

One can learn from his past mistakes only if he manages to realise his contribution to those problems. If he understands he made some mistakes, the chance is that he may be careful not to do them again. However, the question is whether he does have the insight. If he believes that it was only Iliuschetchkina and Antipova’s problem, then it is unlikely he would change his behaviour and there would be no learning from past mistakes. We will have to see.

Let’s just hope for the best!

I went back and read the old threads on it. Quite surprised that many held the view back then that Antipova shouldn't have spoken out because it was career suicude.

Although perhaps views have changed as we have seen that starved little girls don't make successful pairs skaters - a point proven by Duhamel, Sui Wenjing, Savchenko this past quad and the lack of successful pairs teams from Pavlova.

I thought there was an interview where Sui Wenjing said she had to watch her weight very closely and her partner Han was checking in to make sure she was still on her diet, because he was having trouble lifting her. Thankfully, Savchenko and Duhamel had huge partners so I don’t believe that issue came up.

Scientifically, pair skating itself is supposed to be impossible. The male skater has to lift about a 100-pound object into the air with one hand, while moving on skates at high speeds. So many people think the solution is to make the girl lighter, which as we all know is a BAD idea. I think the ISU needs to put more emphasis on making the lifts doable (instead of insisting on all these inhuman positions) so there is less pressure for the girls to be like 80 pounds, and the guys aren’t killing their shoulders.

For the record only, that lift is not difficult and done at a standstill, and the rest of the tricks are "for the audience" and not technically that difficult either (like a 2x twist).

I agree with all of this.

My dad just told me on the phone that he read on Russian media that Sotnikova has a stalker who broke into her nail salon and stole several bottles of nail polish and got caught.

Found an article: https://7days.ru/news/adelina-sotnikova-stala-zhertvoy-ogrableniya.htm

OMG this is horrifying! I’m so glad she is all right, but after all the cyberbullying and threats she dealt with, I can’t imagine...

Question:

Does anyone think Liza Tuts could make the Russian Worlds team this season? Or again?

I think Maria will start to lose ground, especially once these juniors arrive in seniors....but Liza seems to be coming back stronger to me....

I agree! Liza is here to slay! I don’t know how Maria will fare this season, but if she makes mistakes, I can easily see Liza making a run for the team. Also Liza is one of my faves because she’s just so funny and honest :)

I saw this on instagramm. excuse my lack of knowledge but what is "Master of Sports"
"Master of Sports" is a merit based honor title granted to an adult athlete for a set of qualifications and accomplishments. It started in 1935 in USSR, and continues to exist in Russia and several other former Soviet Republics. Preceding "Master of Sports" is "Candidate for Master of Sports". There is a whole hierarchy of sports categories and Master of Sports is the third highest from the top. There are 2 higher categories,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Sports_Classification_System_of_the_USSR_and_Russia

  • Merited Master of Sport of the USSR, (Russian: заслуженный мастер спорта СССР, abbreviated as "змс", sometimes translated as Honoured Master of Sport of the USSR), equates to international champion who has made valuable contributions to the sport
  • Master of Sport of the USSR, International Class (Russian: мастер спорта СССР международного класса; abbreviated as "мсмк"), equates to international champion
  • Master of Sport of the USSR (Russian: мастер спорта СССР; abbreviated as "мс"), equates to national champion
  • Candidate for Master of Sport of the USSR (Russian: кандидат в мастера спорта СССР; abbreviated as "кмс"), equates to nationally ranked player
  • First-Class Sportsman (Russian: спортсмен 1-го разряда), equates to regional champion
  • Second-Class Sportsman (Russian: спортсмен 2-го разряда), equates to state champion
  • Third-Class Sportsman (Russian: спортсмен 3-го разряда), equates to city champion
  • First-Class Junior Sportsman (Russian:
  • Second-Class Junior Sportsman (Russian:
  • Third-Class Junior Sportsman (Russian:

Looks like she withdrew after the SP.

Scherbakova won the 2nd Russian Cup - with a 4z and a 4z3t in the LP (159pts)

https://tulup.ru/forum/topic/38146/message513776.html
Top 3 in this comp, Jr. girls: Usacheva, Safonova, Valieva
https://fsrussia.ru/results/1819/2etap/CAT005RS.HTM

Top 8, Sr. ladies:
https://fsrussia.ru/results/1819/2etap/CAT006RS.HTM (Radionova did not go out on the ice for FS, and the chart later showed WD). Leonova dropped and Panenkova went up in final standings.

1) Scherbakova, 2) Nugumanova, 3) Talalaikina, 4) Shilenko,
5) Solovieva, 6) Tsurskaya, 7) Leonova, 8) Panenkova

Poor Radionova! Is she sick or injured?
https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20181006/1143426286.html
She said (summary): that during warm-up I got a little injury but nothing serious, and decided to withdraw; but overall, my poor performance in the SP has to do with not being quite in shape at this point, but will work on it.

"На разминке я получила небольшую травму, из-за которой не выступила в произвольной программе, но ничего серьезного, - сказала Радионова по телефону, отметив, что неудачный прокат в короткой программе в пятницу был связан с набором формы. – У меня еще происходит процесс набора формы, оптимальных кондиций я пока не набрала, но буду работать над этим и буду выступать дальше".

What's going on with Tsurskaya? :(

Curse of the Polinas? She's never been terribly consistent, and while the lutz is still huge, there isn't much margin for error in terms of getting a > call. I will say both the jumps and overall skating looked less labored and better here than at Nepela, but she still has a lot of work to do before the Grand Prix.

I was actually very impressed with Nugumanova today. Elegant and refined, the program is kind of a throwback without a ton of transitions, but that can be a good thing sometimes. Lovely ch sequence at the end. Get this girl an international assignment!

My opinion? She wanted to quit in Summer 2017 (and it is not the first time), but the coaches told her she'll regret not succeeding, and her parents guilt tripped her into staying after all the money they spent calling her "a spoiled brat and a nag".

Here is one of the articles that recaps this conversation (the more recent one from April 2018)
https://www.sports.ru/figure-skating/1062399460.html

She was tired of banging her butt on the ice, wanted to quit, started to miss practices, did not want to talk or to see anyone. Coaches told her she'll regret if she quits. She still wanted to quit. Then parents got into her, after all they invested time and money. Her parents thought she was acting like a spoiled brat and told her to go out and skate. And she did..... but without any desire to do so. Later she got back in the swing of things and decided that she needs skating.

Did they give any reason? Maybe it is because they have just paired up and don't feel ready to compete yet or maybe they need money to be able to continue skating. Whatever the reason, I wish them good luck and hope to see them competing in future. I like Roganov and miss him.
Or maybe they realistically accepted that with only 12 cm size difference they are not likely to be competitive. With lots of junior pairs aging out of juniors in the next few years, they are likely to have some good ones. I know it is still early in the season, but Boikova/Kozlovski seem to be doing pretty well for their first year in seniors, and I can’t see Ustimkina/Rogonov beating them this season. That means that U/R wouldn’t be sent to Europeans and worlds even though Russian senior pairs are quite depleted at this moment.

They won't have enough time to prepare for the Russian cup series, which are a condition for the Russian nationals.

Is Scherbakova female? Doing quad lutz? If so, I'm willing to bet the following: Eteri is the coach, she's about 12, takes off on the wrong edge, pre-rotates at least half a turn, has no leg muscle so that all the impact is right to her developing bones?

I don't know..I was thinking about it. Maybe that is not so tragic because she is lightweight herself.. And probably she has muscles on her legs-if they are not too visible not everybody is muscular type- if she can jump 4Lz! and the other jumps.. I'm confused

This is the source article https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20181006/1143409198.html

“In order to qualify for the Russian championship, our new duet had to successfully compete in at least two stages of the Russian Cup. We train every day, but in order to avoid injuries we do not force training. We realized that we would not have time,” said Rogonov.

Radionova: Tatiana Tarasova has publicly accused Radionova of being overweight due to lack of discipline.

"Radionova has gained weight beyond recognition, because she can't control herself (self-indulgent with food). She is dealing with a difficult growth period, and has abandoned her self. She is a beautiful and smart girl, she sure is. But she does not apply her smarts to herself. She can't control herself, how much to eat and when to eat, because when she was younger she did not have to.

So now she gained weight beyond recognition. I told her about it during Test Skate, but even her previous coach, Inna Goncharenko often told her about it, and now Elena Boyanova is (saying it), that she (Elena) can't consume (food) as she pleases and then loose what she has to lose in one week (like she could when she was younger).

"Lena, you must lose weight! You're a talented person, but you're destroying yourself, and i am willing to say it publicly. You have no will power to keep in shape, and must say that with an attitude like yours (to your body) very soon nobody would want you (in sports)".

Radionova's SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBXNatnHCQk

Daria Panenkova: ... i am not posting here on FSU what is said about her out there...
.. just the video of her SP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boM3tdgsu1I
