From Russia with love [#28]: Autumn to Winter 2017

Good interview. Would love to see that Marie France program they decided against using.
Me too, but I think that made a right decision. I liked their programs in 2016 and 2017 (especially to "The Unknown Known") and I'm sure that the program Marie France choreographed for them was great but I'm glad that they chose something as powerful, fierce and passionate as Carmen.

Me too. Ksenia can play Carmen very well. That program scored well in spite of the issues so I think they can be very competitive by February. I fear they will quit after the Olympics and I'm very sad we've missed a lot from them due to injury. I think they are the best overall pair team currently competing and really hope they have a successful season.

So who is Valeria Mikhailova who will be competing at CoR and as I can see from the roster Evdokimova/Bazin were replaced by Popova/Mozgov (yay, I wanted to see them)
So who is Mikhailova, again?

The one who skated to ABBA at last year Nationals (she keeps her LP so you will see it at CoR again)

I'm more or less ok with her getting that CoR spot but that means that she will automatically qualify for Nationals, so one of Konstantinova, Gubanova, Fedichkina, Sakhanovich or Gulyakova won't make it to Nationals as there are only 4 spots left :fragile:

Thank you, I remember her now! Not particularly because of her skating, but she chose relatively obscure ABBA tracks ("Head Over Heels" and "Thank You for the Music") and an amazing 2axel-half loop-3flip. Looking forward to seeing her again.

18 ladies seems so low, I really wish they would increase it to 24 or even 20. I understand the qualification system but it seems cruel to eliminate worthy skaters from skating at nationals. It breeds even more cutthroat competition, I know, but I am greedy and want to see more!

Pogo and Stolbova have always had a sense of personal style. Radionova has really grown up and matured over the last year. I think Medvedeva is still a little girl in many ways. Not in her skating of course.

On the 15th page Evgeni's dress :yikes: My grandmother wouldn't wear it...:wall: When will the Russians learn to dress up?

I don't mind the dress so much, it's the hair that needs a little something.

Enjoyed both Sima and Tsurskaya. I like Tsurskaya's line/extension, powerful skating, and big jumps. Hope she has a good healthy season!

ETA: Just watched Pogo & Konstantinova; they both have great SP's too. I'm really rooting for Pogo. I really hope she skates to her full potential this season, all the way through the end! Such a shame her wonderful season last year ended the way it did. I hope that experience didn't dent her confidence but only made her stronger!

Russia has such an embarrassment of riches in their ladies. Any of these ladies could easily be the U.S. National Champion, and then there are also Med, Zagitova, Radionova. Even the way Leonova skated recently in a challenger would make her very competitive at U.S. Nationals...

I would love it is Tsurskaya made the Russian Olympic team, IMO she is the most aesthetically pleasing of the senior eligible Russian Ladies, but then again I don’t think that 3 Tutberidze skaters would be on the Olympic team because one of those spots is already set aside for a CSKA (Buyanova) skater, and at this point Tsursrkaya isn’t top 2 in Eteri’s group.

Tsurskaya was great but not quite special enough yet. And again with the miming...

Pogo was the lady amongst the girls, but the program was rather raw-looking still and she was shaky in places. Certainly worrisome considering how close we are to the GPs.

Sakhanovich seems to have her confidence back and I swear I saw a tiny bit of improvement in the 2axel. I think I would really enjoy her if she had PLushenko's jump form.

Well Pogo peaked too early last year. So hopefully it just means she’s timing it to peak at just the right time this year...
