I’m telling you all, it will be very very difficult to match the intensity and energy of the final group of women in the arena. It was insane. I made my husband who doesn’t care about skating at all turn it on and watch Alysa because I knew if she skated well, that place was going to be insane. Sitting around all the Olympic greats, especially Kristi who was losing her mind with every successful jumping pass, just made it all the more amazing.

This was the best Worlds I've seen in a long, long time. I stayed up until 3 or 4 am to watch all the finals, and I'm so glad I did even if I feel like I have a hangover (despite not drinking). I had FOMO at not attending.

Highlights:
  • The crowd! Great to see so many people in attendance, and the crowd so supportive of all skaters.
  • Conti and Macii's short program: a very memorable Carmen!
  • Efimova and Mitrofanov's free skate, which ended up being a beautiful tribute to the plane crash victims. It was like they were skating on angels wings; Alisa's jumps definitely had help from above
  • Alysa Liu's short program (and also her free skate). But I picked the short program because I could tell immediately that she was skating in the zone and going to have a special competition
  • Shaidorov just bringing it with all the quads and his unapologetically WTF program
  • Ilia being Ilia; another day at the office, six different quads, NBD
  • I haven't watched ice dance yet (need to pace myself), but I'm excited to see Smart and Dieck
  • I'm also happy for Fear and Gibson and a medal for Team GB, even if it was controversial
  • The best overall performance for US Figure Skating in somewhere between 40+ years and ever: three champions (first time ever), three spots in all disciplines (first since qualifying three in all spots in 1983 for 1984)
Lowlights:
  • Kagiyama's massive overscoring
  • Miura and Kihara's win over Hase and Volodin, who were electric
  • Canadian pairs stinking up the joint
  • Sometimes inconsistent calling
  • Torgashev making me and others eat my words re: Jason Brown, who did a commendable job despite all of our complaining
  • Gubanova totally bombing
  • Guignard and Fabbri not medalling, due to their own bad program that they should have dumped long ago

Jealous of all who got to see this great week of skating live!

Alysa’s FS and joy, Kaori being a great sport, also Mone’s SP

Lewis/Leila medalling 🥹 and Olivia getting 3rd in the FD, and pretty much all the RD’s were fun

Efimova/Mitofanov FS and the crowd reaction. Also Ana & Luke skating well (proud Brit moment)

Adam climbing in the FS, Mikhail’s clean skates & medal, also Jason and Deniss being amazing in the FS.

Women Highlights
ALYSA EVERYTHING. Her short. Her long. Her hug and sekret chat with Kaori. Her post victory interview.
KAORI. Finally getting it together in her long after a rocky season. Finally bringing some life and sass to her long program and hopefully never seeing that POS again.
ISABEAU. Turning in two solid performances after an injury plagued season with a lot of unknowns.
WAKABA being WAKABA.

Men Highlights
ILIA doing his thing. So annoyed the 4A got a q.
SHAIDOROV killing it and having so much fun with his lovably nonsense program.
ADAM coming back from a rough short and crap season to get close to a medal.
AYMOZ having two solid skates and helping to possibly earn 3 spots for Fwance.
BROWN looking the best he has in a while.
DAIWEI being cute and landing a nice quad in the long.

Pairs Highlights
Fab skates from all the medalists.
NIKITA being hot.
American pairs being solid enough to potentially earn 3 spots.
LUKE Digby's giant butt.

Dance Highlights
Chock/Bates being legend. GONNA MISS THIS PROGRAM :wuzrobbed
C/P moving up in the standings.
Smart/D deservedly getting 3 in the free.
L/L not getting crazy overscored for once :lynch:
BENJAMIN STEFFAN's facial hair.
Korean's Cruella program.
Alicia and Paul qualifying for the free even if it was at the expense of a FREAK fall from Ally and Saully (SAD FOR THEM :wuzrobbed) - I know technically they were 19th in the RD but also the result of a FREAK fall from the Finns.

I don’t think this is a thread for ‘lowlights’ so my highlights were..
Audience - I think one of the most supportive ones we have seen in a long time
Skaters - so many personal bests which you really can’t ask for anything more especially under such pressure
Alyssa - her reaction after her skate was priceless, I’m glad the Brits medaled - inc those skating for other countries. Having known first hand the struggles for skaters there it’s good for the sport.

-finally getting to see cpom in person (honestly was afraid they'd disapppoint me live lol but I liked them even better)
-that last group of women was absolutely bonkers and so much fun!!
-i wish i could bottle the energy of the crowd for when i need a pick-me-up because they genuinely just wanted everyone to do well and were ready to try and lift everyone up as much as possible
-being in the arena for every single competitive program this week because it's actually hard for me to get around sometimes but I made it in for every single skater and it was a joy

Boston brought it. The crowd was the best I’ve ever experienced and very knowledgeable overall.

Last group of Women. Just amazing skating topped off by seeing Liu having what felt like the skate of a lifetime.

Jason and Ilia. Probably the best I’ve seen Jason in a while and he reminded us it’s not all quads. Ilia has gotten so much better since he “jumped” onto the scene.

Shaidorov. Honestly never saw that coming. What a great skate

Club level seats. We splurged on this. So worth it. Short or no lines to get in, for bathrooms, food, drink etc. (some great skating star watching too )

I don't know where to start, but I do know I'm sad to be going back home today. I was most excited for the men, but since some of my favorites didn't do so great last night (Torg, Yuma, I really wanted a perfect skate from Jun and he got so close), I'll have to say women's was the best event. I didn't think Kaori could be topped, but Alysa blew the rough off the arena.

The atmosphere in the arena for every event was unlike anything I've ever experienced in person. I know you can't go back to the well too often, but Boston should be allowed to host events as often as they're willing. The only lowlight logistically was the turnaround between events on Friday and Saturday - there just wasn't enough time to clear the arena and re-admit everyone.

Discoveries of the week for me: Bekker/Hernandez, Hagara, Nordeback, Sabate

Highlight was the women’s event and getting to see skaters that normally don’t compete in North America. I am a new fan of Shaidorov and Hagara.

I enjoy everyone so much more live and the atmosphere/audience is a huge part of it. Great job Boston and skaters.

I never expected my least favorite discipline to provide the highlight, bit the quality of the top 6 women combined with their sportsmanship was everything! And it was pure serendipity to have the event end on lively music. If the crowd wasn’t into it before group 4, they were for the final group.

Getting educated by the Netherlands ice dance team on why Piper and Paul’s closeness and control sometimes gets ignored and why the Taschlers and Mrazkovi are scored they way they are. And learning that the dancers are just as frustrated with the music era themes as opposed to dance styles. The mid level dancers, especially, would prefer an apples to apples competition.

Lowlights:
The scoring for Diana and Gleb. They just scored him.
Yuma’s sad skate between Mikhail and Ilia.
The inability of TD Garden to read the room. Trying to get a bunch of seniors, many with mobility issues, out and back in within a hour was cray! Even the ushers and security thought it was crazy and would have preferred to deal with squatters on a case by case basis.

Seeing Alysa completely nail it in person, the energy was unlike anything I've ever experienced. The crowd in general was absolutely amazing, and I loved how supportive they were of everyone. Shaidorov was also a special moment, and seeing Adam and Kevin have such great free skates.

C/P getting some deserved love from the judges

Pairs
-amazing free skate from Hase/Volodin!
-Miura/Kihara’s SP, best packaging for them to date
-E/M’s performances

Ladies
-Chiba’s SP—great fun

-Levito’s comeback SP
-Sakamoto’s LP
-Liu’s everything

Men
-Aymoz’s set of programs, heartfelt artistry

The excitement and appreciation emanating from Boston for all of the competitors. Boston Strong!!

The artist in the skater: Yuma in the short, Jason in the long, Alysa in the short, Nina in the long.

The joy from watching the Japanese and American women in the free. Love them all.

Happy for the Brits in dance—both for the medal and real affection for their number two team. And kudos to the Fun Finns and A Chorus Line.

The way Ilia lights up for a challenge. Some people dread it. Not Ilia. The way Alysa seemed so relaxed and skating from the heart.

Maxim Naumov in the exhibition. I so badly want it to be Maxim the Olympian.

Only highlights

The crowd, all respect! such energy and recognition to all skaters and encouraging when falling, so involved in a respectful way +5 GOE

  • Smart & Dieck SB in RD and FD, spectacular program and winning the mini bronze medal for the free
  • Alysa Liu win, such control and poise in the free while having to skate at home and with the expectations made, but she nailed and enjoyed her time on the ice, proving (including me) that she could top Kaori's perfect program before
  • Though I didn't like the music but Kaori's free skate and her sportmanship in the end towards Alysa
  • Mikhail Shaidorov free skate
  • Jason Brown in the free skate
  • Hase & Volodin plus Efimova & Mitrofanov free programs
  • Tomas Guarino SP and the olympic quota for Spain when it was unexpected
  • Turkkila/Versluis drama in the rd, then lithuanians fall that ended up helping the finns to qualify
  • Chock & Bates last dance at a World Championships most likely and doing it to the maximum

So much stuff….

Meeting those of you I’ve never met in person before, but still frustrated by those I missed!

Alysa and Kaori, 2 glorious skaters making me feel like one very smart uber. (I’m not.)

Dance in person. I think I’m the only one who liked those RDs, such fun and of course some of it was ‘my music.’ Points for Janis Joplin! FDs were tougher and results very up and down for me but I will say I’ve never been a Chock uber and they earned that gold medal.

Meeting the Shibs on the concourse. My god they are beautiful people.

Ilia, Deniss, Kevin, Spanish guy who is really cute and whom I will now root for.

Aliza and Misha made me fans, two great programs.

And inducting my family into fandom! My sister-in-law is in love with Adam, since I also love his skating I applaud her taste. Bro and DH liked Lopareva without encouragement from me, but when DH whispered to me in the arena, she’s SO French-looking, I burst out laughing.

Skating, where no one is what they seem. :D

There were so many magical moments and outstanding performances but probably my top two are:

- Alysa Liu bringing down the house. Did.not.see.that.coming. She skated like she was dancing in her living room without a care in the world, and...what the hell?

- Ilia Malinin's exhibition. It was spellbinding and showed a side to him that I didn't know existed.

All of the above. I'll second the discovery of Hagara. Will also add the Beatles medley dance by Mrazkova and Mrazek, a young brother-sister team was delightful. They are from the region of my grandparents, so I take an interest in them.
