I started watching Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix. It's very, very weird. I kind of feel like the writers were on drugs when they wrote it or were huge fans of Alice in Wonderland.

One of the dead boy detectives trapped a talking cat to get information for a case and is now in trouble with the gay cat king. Dead boy detective died in the 40's/50's/??? and doesn't realize he's gay so the cat king gave up on sex and has trapped him in town until he counts all the cats.

Also a girl was possessed by dandelion sprites that make you light up in neon so people stare at you. The sprites need attention. Eventually the host explodes rainbow goo everywhere and dies.

I don't hate it, don't love it and am kind of wondering what whacked out weird crap they are going to come up with next.

I read a write-up about Tubi and it’s hundreds of thousands of titles. (Can that be true?) I hit explore, closed my eyes, landed on adult animation and selected a 15 yr old film called “Metropia.” It was set in a dystopian future (2024 😳) and the world is a dreary place. Society has failed on multiple levels. A man stumbles on to a mystery and tries to keep the world from getting worse. The animation was unusual and worth watching.

Netflix dropped the first trailer for their Senna series today, most likely because it is the 30th anniversary of that terrible weekend in Imola:

https://youtu.be/LT7h6sUeUhU

No release date yet.

Cast list is also up: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13024830/

Nobody really looks right, and Johannes Heinrichs is going to suffer the most from being compared to Daniel Bruhl's Niki Lauda. Martin Brundle and Sir Frank Williams look like they got the biggest Historical Beauty Upgrade though, which is kind of hilarious. Notable exclusions from the cast list include Gerhard Berger, Michael Schumacher and Adrienne, his last girlfriend, which has me a little concerned, but the list isn't fully updated.

Honestly I'm still reserving judgement. The risk is that this will be yet another casting of Senna as a flawless deity, and Prost as the evil villain, and then Schumacher as the scheming cheat.

Has anyone else been watching American Idol this season?

I just have to get this off my chest: I think Emmy Russell's performance of "Coal Miner's Daughter" this week was really off key. And her piano playing wasn't that great either. I know Idol wanted to create this big moment for her, singing her grandmother's song, but to me, it kind of fell flat. Anyone else? Or am I just being too critical?

If you'll forgive me another American Idol rant... I just don't GET Emmy Russell. To me it always sounds like she's gargling marbles in her mouth when she sings. She can't enunciate to save her life. How is she in the top 5?!!!!! I mean, no hate here; I actually like her, personality-wise. She's obviously a sweet girl, and she's worked hard to overcome what was apparently an almost crippling shyness. (I can relate to that.) But her voice just doesn't appeal to me. Like at all. I actually find it kind of grating.

Personally, I'm rooting for Abi Carter. And that's a surprise to me, because I didn't necessarily put her in my top 5 when this season started. She's come on strong the past couple of weeks, and now I really want her to win. That Evanescence cover she did last week kind of blew me away. That's a damn hard song to sing, and she did it justice. This week, she did a Fallout Boy song, nearly lost her mic pac when it came loose from her waist, and still looked and sounded great. And her Adele song was by far the best of the night, IMO.

Yes and this series is hard to watch at times and is so good. Richard Gadd is new to me but I will be shocked if he doesn’t win Baftas and Emmys for this. I wonder if it was cathartic or agonizing for him to make this series.

All I have left is the last episode, oh my gosh, I’ve been hearing that the guy who stars in this also wrote it and directed it, and it happened to him in real life

I asked people I work with, and they all said they have watched it, oh my gosh I have been left with my mouth open or maybe I’m just becoming a fuddy-duddy

I have to rep this one! I don't even know how to describe it, but if you like weird and heartwarming, you should give it a try.
It's billed as a comedy, but it's more of a dramedy.
I like humorous, quirky shows with dramatic elements and boy did this fit the bill. I'm so glad it is returning.

I'm shocked with AI in that this is the first season when I wasn't really in love with a handful of singers out of the top 24. There were a few auditions that blew my mind, but those people didn't make it past Hollywood Week. I find most in the top ten can't get through a 90 second version of their song choice without losing the melody many, many times.

Another gripe is that America is voting out all of the people of colour sooner and sooner every season. :(

This year has been kind of interesting in that regard, because I think there have been at least a couple of instances of singers in the top 14 who've had a strikingly similar sound and/or look, and may have been splitting the vote because of that. I also think that Idol's fanbase has shifted more and more toward country music lovers in recent years, which means the judges' choices for the top 14 have been increasingly skewed toward that genre.

I was actually kind of shocked (happily so) that Abi beat out Emmy for a spot in the top 3, because it bucked that trend. I was less thrilled when Will beat out Tristan for the top 3, because Tristan outperformed him this week. Will messed up more than once with the lyrics, yet the judges glossed over it. I like his voice though, so I'm not mad to be hearing more from him.

The third singer to make it to the finale, Jack Blocker, did extremely well this week, so I'm happy for him. He, much like Abi, has grown on me as the competition has progressed. I think both of them have improved tremendously as performers.
