Detroit selected to host 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships

The other thing I'll say I wasn't a huge fan of was the fact that only the inner circle of seats seems available at this point? I was hoping to see what sort of seats were further back, since I'm more likely to buy cheap seats for US Nationals and save the $$$ for 4CC.

My husband was online for about an hour & a half. There seemed to be a problem with the site not accepting our order initially, but finally it worked out. Two tickets in section 121, Row 10.

Misskarne, I noticed a price-range slider on the left side of the screen. Is it possible that yours was set high enough that the cheaper seats didn't show up?

It looks like the cheapest all-event tickets are $475, around the corners. They will likely have the upper level blocked/curtained off during the event, realizing that these days, Nats isn't going to sell out an arena, particularly one that size. If they do sell out mostly in the current seating area, it's possible they could open the upper deck for single-event tix, but I doubt it. Boston Worlds used the whole arena, but that was Worlds, and Boston.

And of course they could not bother to put the rates for all the hotels on the website. I guess the hotels will be getting lots of phone calls!
I interpreted that to mean there is no special rate for the hotels w/o a reservations link (and then there was one that said to call directly and ask for the group rate), that they are listed just to show what hotels are in the area.

For those of you coming in, You may want to consider staying in Southfield. It's a strait shot from downtown and roughly 25 minute drive. I would stick with these hotels...

Westin
Springhill Suites
Detroit Marriott Southfield
Hilton Garden Inn
Courtyard by Marriott

I would NOT stay at anything beneath 3.5 stars.

Another city to think about is Troy or Madison Heights. The same time to downtown exists and rules for star selection. Priceline is notorious for having last minute specials for the mentioned cities , express deals for under 100.00 a night. Keep in mind, winter in detroit, brutal LOL. I wouldn't chance it going further than cities i mentioned. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Unless you are planning on going to events at DSC, I would absolutely not suggest Troy. Suburban nightmare with expensive hotels and I-75 in that area just sucks during rush hour.

(I’m a west sider - @arakwafan2006 probably gets this - so I do have a bias against that side of Detroit. I’ll admit it.)

If you are not planning on DSC and have a car, Dearborn and Livonia are also good options.

I agree about dearborn. Not livonia, ironically for the same reasons you sighted for Troy. Also, They will be commuting the opposite way of traffic if they do Troy and there is none on weekends...

We found a good rate at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites downtown so we went ahead and booked that just so we have something booked for the trip. Its right along the peoplemover route and has a microwave, fridge, and free breakfast so we're good for now. We'll keep looking if we happen to find any better deals but I haven't found any yet (and the rates that the USFSA has put out are more expensive than our current room). The only bummer for these hotels is that parking isn't free which normally wouldn't bother me for US Nats except that we're actually driving to this one. :fragile:

So far they have done nothing to make me think "gee I wish I was going" I will be watching this one from home :)

The Aloft at The David Whitney. $249.00 a night plus tax.

Is Uber/Lyft the best way to get from Southfield to Little Caesars Arena? I won't have a car.

I'm confused. The Aloft in Detroit appears to be very close to the Qline and about 1/2 mi from Little Caesars. Are you asking about Southfield because you are staying there to go to events at the DSC? If you are staying in Southfield, google says public transportation would be at least 2 buses and 1 1/2 hr.

@maureenfarone sorry to confuse you. I was asking how far Southfield is from Little Caesars and you answered my question. Thanks.
I'm frequently confused :) so it isn't a problem. Google says 18.5 mi. from the Hilton in Southfield to Little Casesars Arena. Here is a website I found for uber, taxi, etc. I'm not sure how accurate it is but might give you some ideas: RideGuru Fare Estimater

I was considering going for the final weekend, or maybe just the senior events... but with those hotel rates, probably not. :shuffle:

I'd love to go if only to see @purple skates again, but still trying to justify another skating vacation since I am going to Vancouver in December.

I didn't know you were attending. I'll join you in a glass of wine! :nopryde:

So looking forward to meeting some new FSUers (and ones I've met before) while seeing the best skaters in the world at GPF.
