Dalilah Sappenfield suspended for "allegations of misconduct"

Sorry. Never read anything (that stuck in my brain) about her.....well, except she is really fat
This was a thread in Great Skate Debate that was active in October and November of last year.

You didn't post in it, but you did post in GSD during that time. I would be surprised if you didn't see the thread title, but I'm not surprised that it didn't stick in your brain.

OUCH! Little sticks in my brain at the moment. The URL does not work.

If I follow what you are saying, there was a thread in Great Skate Debate that I could have/would have/should have seen. So, someone I never heard of was accused of rape and was then supported by Dalilah Sappenfield. And I assume, since he was skating with Alona S. in June of 2021, he was not convicted of anything.

So, how is it bad that Sappenfield supported him? Aside from the obvious.....they are all scumbags?

If you find the thread, which is easy to do, you will see that the first post links to a tweet accusing Sappenfield of being a "rape enabler." The victim was apparently one of Sappenfield's trainees.

And while Nyman hasn't been convicted of rape, he might still be.

Well.............innocent until proven guilty. If he is as vile as said, why isn't he shunned?

Given the allegations revolving around Sappenfield I don't understand why she still had work in recent years, but at least with this suspension nobody will be able to go to her and people will be safe.

My heart goes out to the complainants. It was brave for them to come forward and must have been so hard to wait for the investigation to progress.

The USFS had told its skaters to move away from her last year, or was it two years ago now - I'm losing track of dates under our current circumstances.

Couldn't agree with you more!

Yes, I recall Kayne/O'Shea moved away from her about a year ago. I can't recall if it was summer or early fall 2020 but weren't they sort of adrift/coach-hunting at Skate America last October? They were pretty much her last high profile senior level team, IIRC.

She had Savchenko/Nyman for a few weeks after that. Oy!

I know there was a press release but they didn't even have programs and certainly never skated in any competitions so perhaps we should call that an extended tryout rather than an actual pairing that ever go off the ground?

That I know of, she allegedly:

-Helped cover up allegations against TJ Nyman and John Coughlin

-Encouraged relationships between legal adult male skaters and much younger underage female skaters

-Herself engaged in inappropriate relationships with much younger male skaters

-Committed some financial fraud or other illegal tax stuff (not 100% sure on this one)

Again, all allegations, but all really bad. I’m not sure what all 12 are, but I would assume those four encompass most of it. I’m also sure we’ll learn more soon about what the specifics are.
Rumor has it that TJ Nyman is also being investigated as part of the same investigation, so I would assume his status will be updated soon.

By now, Aljona must have received The Memo on this situation... ?

Thank goodness for the suspension! Finally!!

She hasn't had any USFS funded skaters in the past couple seasons.
Right. Just a Jr Pair or two at 2021 Natls, if memory serves.

Didn’t Dalilah recently appear at the Cranberry Cup Int’l with the new Swedish pair, the Crafoords? Hopefully, they’ll be accompanied by another coach - Mishkutienok?- at the upcoming Nebelhorn Trophy.

Something was official enough for a request to go the German skating federation for a release.

I think the release was to skate for the US, not just a general release(?)

How appropriate albeit late. Hopefully this will act as a deterent to others. Hope she has an epiphany.

She still has international skaters. :(

It's not even a temporary suspension. It's just some temporary restrictions based on allegations of misconduct, some of which seem to be pretty much the same as what Safesport requires anyway . Not really like a hammer slamming down, at least not yet. More likely highly litigated with support of her attorneys, and time just keeps marching on. And, yes, she still has international skaters who trained with her when they competed for the US, so...still waiting...

Can confirm Dalilah was at Cranberry with the Crafoords—saw her with them there

Oh, genius answer! So very helpful.....and adds so much to the conversation.

I wanted to know what kind of abuse. Did she flog them? Starve them? Keep them in a closet? Sexually abuse them? Shame them?

And does it really matter? Is there some type of abuse that you think is ok

But as a general rule, I have found that you get farther by being nice to people and insulting them because they didn’t spoonfeed you what you needed to know.
