Dalilah Sappenfield suspended for "allegations of misconduct"

Given the allegations revolving around Sappenfield I don't understand why she still had work in recent years, but at least with this suspension nobody will be able to go to her and people will be safe.

My heart goes out to the complainants. It was brave for them to come forward and must have been so hard to wait for the investigation to progress.
I think I have totally missed all this too but my excuse is Covid brain mush and a stressful health situation in my family right now. I will go catch up.

You were one of the frequent posters in the original thread.

This woman sounds absolutely vile. I’m not American, so I wasn’t aware of her history, so I appreciate the information laid out in this thread.

It sounds like she is still in charge of some junior pairs, which is more concerning to me than coaching a highly visible senior pair. Junior skaters are much more vulnerable to abuse and have a harder time speaking up. Hopefully this suspension is the first step toward ousting her from the sport permanently (and ultimately bringing legal consequences on her head) for the sake of the pupils she still has.

As @2sk8 already pointed out, she has not been suspended at this time, but has had "temporary restrictions" imposed, which do include "coaching / training restriction(s)," whatever those may be.

My $64,000 Question:

Will Shameless Coach have the gall to show-up w/ the Swedes at Nebelhorn?? ? ?
Isn't the real question why would the Swedes remain with her as their primary coach? Well, that and I think the Swedes could improve if they switched to a different coaching team. Meno/Sand are getting crowded but it seems like the Cains or Peterson/Amanda Evora should have room for another team in their program.

Travel / Lodging Restriction(s), Coaching / Training Restriction(s), Contact / Communication Limitation(s), No Contact Directive(s)
This means, among other things, that she must have another adult present when she is working with minors. IINM, that adult could be TJ Nyman. :scream:

Maybe another pairs coach at Monument, such as Natalia Mishkutienok, will accompany the Swedes henceforth to competitions.

Tony I have no idea how many times you said I was a frequent poster and saying that I said stuff when I didn’t. Do you actually stalk people’s posts?
Give me a break. Clicking on the thread that was conveniently linked above (which I happened to re-read prior to your statement and noticed your name plenty), anyone can see that you were actively a part of it and giving much more elaborate replies than your usual. Maybe you need to just revisit the thread for a refresher.

Maybe I don't Tony. You didn't answer my question ... why do you stalk my comments? You can just move on to other people's posts. You certainly have absolutely no business telling me what to do.

Here we go for another round of nonsense. I didn't stalk your posts, and I promise your vague one-liners are not something I would ever go out of my way to find.

Pointing out to you that you indeed did post in the original thread is pointing out a fact, not telling you what to do.

It's not even a temporary suspension. It's just some temporary restrictions based on allegations of misconduct, some of which seem to be pretty much the same as what Safesport requires anyway . Not really like a hammer slamming down, at least not yet. More likely highly litigated with support of her attorneys, and time just keeps marching on. And, yes, she still has international skaters who trained with her when they competed for the US, so...still waiting...
So sorry if these questions have been answered before, let me know if it's too much here, I guess I need more information:

In this Sappenfield case, are we waiting for and expecting a turnover to Temporary Suspension? Who is the jury in each case? Is there a judge? If it went from Temporary Suspension to further, would the same jury or judge decide as with the original charge? Would we be notified publicly (like here on FSU?) of a Temporary Suspension if it comes around? Or Permanent?

In the SafeSport court of law, is a person innocent until proven guilty?

Can all of the SafeSport charges also be brought up in civilian court? Would a SafeSport conviction hold up in civilian court, and/or can the charged person countersue?

Why on earth would you even bother Tony??? Really? Are you that bored?

This topic is much more serious than you coming in with constant obtuseness when a link was provided in post #31 to revisit your prior statements. Moving on.

**** off Tony and get a life. Condescending remarks don't work with me. You are just a nasty person in general ... I've never seen you post or respond without belittling remarks. Putting you on ignore feel free to do the same ??.

@Lacey other posters here might be able to give more details, but SafeSport doesn't do trials with judges and juries. It investigates complaints and makes a decision on whether to issue a penalty based on what it finds in the investigation.

Thanks @overedge, boy do I seem stupid, but really...so, if in this case it's temporary restrictions, then it doesn't seem as if it would ever evolve into a temporary suspension? This is it, this is all, ever? I was just dreaming? It's nothing?

That's a good idea. If you two have more to say to each other, please do it by PM.

But for the record, I checked (you can call that stalking your posts if you like) and you did indeed post in the linked thread. I am not sure why this is important or why you would bother to argue about it since anyone who can use the search feature could see this for themselves, but there you are. If you are going to take up space in a thread arguing about something like this, then you shouldn't be too surprised when people check to see if you are being unjustly accused.

Since you can't put me on Ignore, feel free to send me a PM telling me to **** off and get a life if you feel the need.

Well, even I wouldn't trust my opinion in this case, not sure if I understand that the investigation is yet ongoing.

(ETA, I wrote this before @overedge did just above, thanks @overedge.)

I would imagine that Temporary Restrictions purely and simply mean that USFS has recommended no American clients use her, (but does it also say, it's a law?). So, if you are contemplating using Delilah Sappenfield, one could see that the USFS doesn't think you should use her, (but you still might???) Those are your restrictions. Period. Also doesn't say for how long. And nothing else.

I would imagine that accusers could bring private criminal cases if they want, but the burden to do so would be on them as usual.

OK, sorry if I interrupted anyone's day.

I am even more sad now.

As overedge noted, this is a short-term action in an investigation. SafeSport received a complaint (according to TSL, there are multiple complaints but there hasn't been anything officially stated yet) and determined there was enough evidence to issue a temporary suspension/restriction while they continue to investigate to determine if there was indeed a violation and what consequences should be imposed.

When SafeSport completes its investigation, it will issue its findings and decision. Sappenfield could be permanently banned, suspended for a period of time, or cleared.

If the complaint involves criminal activity, the individual can be reported to police as any crime would be reported. The police investigation and charges would be separate from SafeSport. Obviously, if a coach is convicted of a crime that precludes them from working as a coach, SafeSport would ban them.

Accusers could bring a civil suit against Sappenfield but that would also be separate from SafeSport.

USFS is bound by whatever SafeSport decides, so whatever consequence they issue would apply to all USFS-sanctioned activities.
