Does anyone have anything to add about the USA Today article?
It confirms that USA Today and Brennan performed their due diligence prior to publishing the article, and hopefully that will be acknowledged by the naysayers here who believe Brennan just makes the stuff up to sensationalize the issue.
"I believe things are changing due to this reporting," she says, "but slowly. Is any sport doing enough? No. Is our world doing enough? No. There are still way too many people protecting the brand, whatever the brand may be, rather than protecting our children."
That last sentence pretty much sums up a lot of the comments that have been made throughout this thread.

Maybe this would be a good time to share a couple of links that clarify some things about how SafeSport operates, too.

Handy twitter thread recapping a SS presentation presented for US track & field annual meeting:

An equestrian news site published a write-up of a SS presentation. (There have been some high profile SafeSport cases –see George Morris – and a lot of controversy and victim-blaming in the equestrian circles.)

Social media IMO is a very dangerous place. Anyone can say anything. Of course men are responding to you, trolling, seeing how far they can take something. It is naive to think otherwise.

On a social media site you can be whoever you want to be, say whatever you want to say with absolutely no accountability for your actions. You can hurt, bully, tease, pretend and send disgusting pictures. When one says the pictures are unsolicited it is only partially correct. Sure one did not say....O send me a picture of your privates. But by engaging in conversations with people you do not know you leave yourself open for whatever you get.

Now, this has nothing to do with the 13 year old girl, this is not blaming the victim, nor condoning nasty pictures. Simply a statement of fact. Social media has changed society.

If a 13-year-old girl having an Instagram account is a problem because “the internet is dangerous”, then I guess people shouldn’t walk down the street because there might be a gunman who will randomly open fire and you might get shot. People shouldn’t leave their houses because they might get in a car or bike accident...you do see how ridiculous you are being, right?

The problem isn’t the girl using Instagram. The problem is the grown ass man who decided to use Instagram to send her d*ck pics.

Also, I’d be more than happy to give you a crash course in how to treat transgender people.

I knew it wouldn't be long before AxelAnnie was back with the social media equivalent of "she was wearing a short skirt so she was asking for it".

And adding "by the way this isn't victim blaming" doesn't automatically make it so.

Thanks, @misskarne. I think too often, people use phrases like “no offense but you suck” and expect people to be cool with it because they said “no offense”!

The explanations of how Instagram DM works and how that informs the facts is within the first few pages of this thread. Multiple people have explained why therefore it is completely implausible for him to send pics without knowing who he was chatting with and sending the pics to.
I also use Instagram and I am certain anyone would know who they send DM to on Instagram.

Step away from the thread overnight, and it goes down the drain.... 🤷‍♂️

I feel sorry for the girls and for Vanessa James. :(

Awww, no more smokin’ hot unitards at Euros Pairs, for the delight of FSU commentators?

I’m wondering...if all of this began with the coach Dispenza asking the 13-yr-Old girl to ask Cipres for a “dick pic,” if Dispenza wanted to make money by, in turn, selling it to the sort of “artistic porn” websites that Tinami had pointed out, which already had photos of Cipres showing all parts? Is there a market out there for this sort of stuff? (Innocent Question) Dispenza sounds like he may be the biggest creep in this drama. If his intention was to make hundreds (or thousands?) of bucks in selling the “dick pic” of a celebrity...and it cost him only the price of a pizza???

Is Cipres a celebrity in France?
No. Only fans of figure skating know him and figure skating isn't a very popular sport. He's been all over the Internet press for 48h and also in a few newspapers, but not on the frontpage, more like a small article lost inside. People (as in the general population) will have forgotten about him next week. It's probably already done.

I figured as much. I was responding to @Frau Muller, who said he was a celebrity.

I don't because I don't use it much. Like I don't know where to find age of people I follow and I have zero pictures of me nor my age there. So don't assume of everyone to know.
Not that I think HE didn't know.

In skating-fanatic countries, such as Russia, from which comes the “artistic porn” photos site to which Tinami gave link. The other possible reason why the coach craved the photos was “personal satisfaction” but I thought that there may have been a $$$ reason, too. Whatever the reason, disgusting actions. It’s very sad for the innocents caught up in this (the girl, her parents, V James).

Sez a white man who clearly has no idea about women's reality, no awareness of it, and no interest in it.

Most if not all the women on this board and elsewhere can relate to the list of precautionary measures listed above.

And white men are no more or no less likely to harass a woman than men of colour. SFAIK, the incidence of sexual discrimination, harrasment and assault is about the same across classes and ehtnicities (although there are some exceptions, like refugee camps where rape is unfortunately sometimes a daily reality).

I’m not white, darling. The meme she was talking about and approves of and agrees with is sexist. I said if someone made a meme like that in a racial vein, would she agree with it? Would you agree with it? She brought up the meme and any perceived stereotypes, not me. I don’t really care much, whether it is or isn’t, but I do care about her hypocrisy.
