10. Recent cases are indicating that there’s some bad behavior by star skaters, usually but not always heterosexual men, that gets excused, covered up and victim-blamed because these guys are prized commodities. In addition to Coughlin and Cipres, I’m including Nikita’s well-witnessed behavior to Vika and the guys Melissa B talked about. There’s a structural issue here as important as individual bad behavior.

For Cipres phone to be hacked as has been suggested, the hacker would have had to know that there were dick pics on the phone, and know where to find them, to send in response to the request.

And send them from Cipres' Instagram account.

People really need to stop trying to find an excuse for Cipres in this. He isn't even making one for himself, at least not yet. And if his defense is what I expect it will be, it's not going to get any better.

But if here just reading this I can come up with a few alternate scenarios and I am a 68yr old not all that socially media savy female skating fan , I am not about to accuse, convict and punish someone which would include destroying his career in my head or written word without all the facts being known.
And are you also not about to believe the girl, whose connection with skating has been destroyed and who has been having mental health problems for the past two years?

If I read the article correctly, the victim's father is an attorney. There are many specialties in law, but attorneys tend to be acutely aware of risk - it's generally what they do after all, manage risk. And given that said attorney dad seems to be involved in bringing forth claims, I just doubt there is an innocent explanation for the events.

I am not even going into that yet. Anyone who threatened her should be in jail. Apparently Cipres did not do that. If his phone was hacked she might not know that. And if a pic of a male's genitals was going to send her to therapy on it's own I am sure she would not have played along with pizza gate...Again until everything is completely laid out I am not convicting anyone.....which includes the 13 year old girl who participated in a joke which certainly she should not have been included in especially being in a supposedly safe place (her rink where her parents must have been paying a bundle for). We now know there is no such thing as a rink being a safe place.

Oh WTF is this even? For someone who wants to wait until all the facts are carefully laid out, you're doing a fine job of speculating on what a 13 y.o girl would or would not do in a given situation.
And, "pizzagate", seriously?

Let me try to summarize:

1. It seems very likely that Cipres sent dick pics to a child and that the coaching team at the rink tried to intimidate the victim into silence.
2. This is not remotely okay.
3. Many people today send dick pics, especially in certain contexts such as hookup apps but also on social media more broadly.
4. Such pics predate social media but their prevalence now means that sending/receiving them is more common for younger people (not always by choice).
5. Not all young people are involved in sending/receiving explicit pics and not everyone who gets them is young.
6. Not everyone here is familiar with the concept or has experienced it as prevalent because FSUers come from a range of backgrounds.
7. Sending unsolicited explicit photos is gross.
8. Sending them to children is never okay. If you have needs, deal with them with a consenting adult.
9. It is possible that Cipres and/or the coaches involved have a reasonable defense. It is also highly unlikely.

I think this about covers everything.

Great summary, but you’re missing a couple of important points:

  • Sending dick pics to a minor almost certainly violates state and federal laws as well as the SafeSport Code.
  • A mandated reporter who fails to report maybe be subject to state law as well as SafeSport sanctions.

Basically it doesn’t matter how common or accepted sending dick pics is in particular subgroups. There are laws and rules in place. Until they’re changed, if you violate them, you’re subject to the penalties. Knowledge of the law is presumed, so saying you didn’t know or thought it was okay won’t get you very far.

So, you don't think that the very ACT of sending dick pics isn't threatening? The coercion and bribery involved in getting her to ASK for the pics at all isn't threatening? You think about your own children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins at that age, and ask yourself how you would be feeling if they had been the victim of this "joke" that was played. Then we can discuss what is and is not threatening or what would or would not send them into therapy.

pizzagate is correct... The girls sent messages asking for the pics with the promise of free pizza if they did.

Most things don't.

What makes you think it was a joke?

Certainly being threatened to silence by anybody could require therapy.

If it was not a very poor taste joke then the only thing I can come up with was the person requesting the girls to ask for the pics wanted the pics and wanted to benefit in having them in some way...either dick adoration or blackmail or to make money on the sale of them. Who knows? It is an alternate theory. I have never liked Morgan Cipres since I saw a kiss n cry nastiness from him a few yrs ago but I am not willing to lynch him for being dumb and immature. I will wait and see.

Are you deliberately being obtuse? You don't know the victim. You don't know her maturity level or how sheltered her life has been. You have NO idea what could cause her emotional trauma that requires therapy. My nieces, sisters more than 9 years apart in age, each would have reacted to and handled this kind of situation far differently from the other. I can completely imagine the younger one being emotionally traumatized snd scared to not go along with the dare while the older one probably would have laughed off the dare or told creepy "pizzagate" to sod off. And the sad fact is, you are sitting here trying to find all sorts of ways to somehow excuse the fact that 1) no one should be daring anyone else to ask for explicit images, and 2) Cipres never should have sent them at all!

Nor do you know the victim. These are possibilities I am providing not declarations.
1)ITA -no one should have asked for the pictures.

2)-If Cipres sent them he is really stupid. I am not convinced yet he did.

Sorry but if you are waiting in line to help drag someone to the tree and put a bag over their head before they string him up I am not.
The entire story will come out.

I was summarizing the discussion here. Indeed, there are potential criminal and civil implications in this case, as well as SafeSport penalties.

You do realize that what he presumably did is illegal under federal law? This is not him being "young and immature", it's him distributing pornography to several minors. What the hell is wrong with people.
2)-If Cipres sent them he is really stupid. I am not convinced yet he did.
Again, it does not make him stupid, it makes him a sexual offender (and stupid).

presumably did is the key phrase in your post. Testimony has not been heard yet.

It is not “dumb and immature”; sending dick pics to a minor is a CRIME. As far as another coach daring the girls to do it - Are you unfamiliar with the concept of grooming??
Your insistence in crafting an alternate reality is baffling.

Oh, so you do see at least one other possibility. I'll bet if you put your mind to it, you could come up with a couple more.

Which brings us back to--what makes you think it was a joke?

You don't seem to like it when others assume, yet.......

The entire story will come out.

Maybe. Probably. And when it does, expect to see your posts quoted again.

i don't want to pick a fight, but just want to say. she may have participated in a joke (by sending a "message" for pizza), but possibly not aware of what content she is sending. If Dispenza gave her a phrase to send which contained for example a french word for "penis" (queue, la bitte, etc.) or the whole phrase in french, she would not be aware of what she will get in a photo. It would be interesting to know what she was asked to send, if she sent it indeed.

How do you know he had a password?
As media, I've spent time around him since he was a single junior competitor. Last time was at Grenoble GP in November. BTW, you may not know that some phones don't require a password for activation. I switch mine on with my thumb print. To hack it, you'd have to chop my thumb off first.

And isn’t that a very sad commentary on the lack of religion and “decent values” in today’s households? I’m so grateful to having parents from The Greatest Generation, including an amazing stay-at-home mom. Responsible parenting.
I think that is debatable, there was a lot more sex and drugs in the 70's and 80's than now. Also a lot more racism and sexism in the 50's to 80's. I work with families and young people and my experience is the younger generation is a lot more responsible than my peer groups (I'm in my mid 50's). Most sexual predators I have worked with interestingly have also been in an older age group (likely repressed from that great generation).

It's also a felony under Florida law: transmission of material harmful to minors. It carries a five year sentence, which I believe is more severe than the comparable sentence under Federal law.

And since it's the local police investigating, I would expect that the prosecution would be in state, not Federal court.

And the later iPhone models use face recognition instead of thumbprint.

Everybody involved was from the rink therefore unless his phone was in a locked locker they all had access. Also he knew pizzagate well so he could have seen him keying in said password and memorized it. How do you know he had a password? I am sure after finding out what happened he sure as h*ell has one now. Here is the thing....I have no idea what happened at all. But if here just reading this I can come up with a few alternate scenarios and I am a 68yr old not all that socially media savy female skating fan , I am not about to accuse, convict and punish someone which would include destroying his career in my head or written word without all the facts being known.

Unless he proffers up that or any defense, we do not need to make up any for him. Any attempt at doing so does not look good.
