In [pre-Skate America] teleconference today, Chock & Bates said they remain inspired to compete: "We are definitely on the road to Milano," Chock says. "We still find new things about our skating, we want to explore."
Chock describes their free dance, set to "Take Five," as "moody & jazzy," and centered on the idea of making your own luck. "Maddie (represents) the embodiment of Lady Luck," Bates says. Chock designed the costumes, inspired by the Empire State Building, art deco & film noir.
Chock & Bates worked on new elements during off-season:"We put a lot of effort into making new lifts and some exciting highlights in the program," Bates says.

Madison Chock on new free dance ahead of #SkateAmerica conference call: "We have done a jazz rendition of a very popular piece called 'Take Five.' It's a very moody and jazz-inspired theme. We were really inspired by Lady Luck. We are using luck to our own benefit."

Madison Chock on new costumes ahead of #SkateAmerica "I was very inspired by the film noir theme in the art-deco era. It's very jazz and sultry. What could be more art-deco than the Empire State Building. I love the mood that created. We really drew on the American Dream."
Evan Bates ahead of #SkateAmerica call: "We want to come out with fresh material every year, and we put a lot of effort into new lifts, and we have some new highlights in the program that we look forward to showing next week."
Evan Bates on his and Chock's longevity on the #SkateAmerica call: "A lot of it has been how we treat our body and minds outside of the ice rink - that includes nutrition, recovery and how far sport science has gone in the last decade. We take that student mentality off ice."

Madison: ... We just really appreciated the crowd. They were amazing and just always such a joy to perform.
Evan: (on their first NHK Trophy gold) It was just delightful to know that it's a new milestone for us. Anytime the skaters are selected for NHK Trophy we all do a little celebration because we're so excited to come to this competition in particular. We are very very honored to be here and excited to take home the gold medal.

Congratulations to Maddy & Evan for winning the GPF!

I really enjoyed watching their RD on E!

Johnny Weir said he talked to Maddy & Evan about their RD. They said originally, it had no back-story, but that did not work for them.

They decided that Evan is a late night talk show host, dancing through the decades. It now makes sense why Evan was being so successful at hamming it up and being the star of the RD!

It also explains the pocket square...
