Chantastic....the return of Patrick

Even in Canada? A friend of my husband's told him, "I'm Canadian! Of course I skate!" But she is well off.

Exactly what I thought. Canada's national sport is hockey, so the chances of a Canadian kid in skates are much higher I would have thought.

IceAlisa: The ice was pretty rough by the time Patrick skated and yes, there was a puddle. I wonder if the woman who complained to custumer relations that it was too cold in the arena, finally had her way.

The puddle was there already during the freeskate by Fernandez. I noticed it as he was landing the quad toe and don´t remember ever having seen a puddle at a Worlds or European arena....

I remember 2003 Worlds had a wet spot towards the end of the rink. I remember some Sasha fans blaming that on why she fell on her flying camel. Not unlike the Chan/Fernandez discussion, some others remarked that a few skaters managed to land triples on that same spot, including Kwan.

Love the SOI pictures shared. Can't wait to see it on Sunday here in London.
And Patrick has made it very clear he wants to be back competing. No one is forcing him. I'm not sure that would be possible.

ETA: this one I found is labeled Elvis but pretty sure it's not. ;)

Thanks for the links! When he talks about taking his 3A apart with a coach, who is the coach? Not Kathy?

In a little chat with a reporter last fall, Patrick mentioned that he and Kathy had been working all summer on deconstructing and reconstructing the triple axel jump, so yeah, I do think he was referring to Kathy and only Kathy in the radio interview even if he didn't say her name.:)

Hi Zela M and Spun Silver

Sorry it has taken me no so long to respond...but I just wanted to give it the thought and detail it deserves. Canada is a wonderful country but we had crappy politics for quite a few years ...I feel we are doing better now.
As I am sure everyone is aware we are now bringing in refugees from Syria..lots of them and Canadians are in 2 camps..Those that feel these people need help desparately and we should help and those that say hey! look after "real Canadians" before immigrants. Well there are arguments both ways and I am with camp#1 although I understand camp#2. Most Canadians except for (north american indians) are immigrants either from this generation or 1 or 2 generations back so sorry that doesn't cut it with me. The government does need to do a lot more for a large % of Canadians -middle class down. So many people are on welfare and unemployment is very high..A very large % make minimum wage or not much more. Figure skating is a very expensive sport. Now there are some outdoor rinks which are free but with our weather they are mostly used for hockey. You would still need skates which on welfare forget it. lessons? at arenas...some low income and people on unemployment send their kids to CANSKATE- large group lessons...as soon as they get better you need smaller number in lessons and patch to practice...so forget the min wage families... private lessons ..lots of ice time quite a few hours on the ice upper middle class only and rich. Skate Canada gives money to Junior and senior skaters- top 5 only in each discipline and the $ given are laughable...So you see Canadians at international events...either they have family money..or parents are both working at good professions and don't mind given anything over to their childrens dreams..and in a lot of cases parents mortgage their house to pay for skating...siblings do without cause the money goes to one silblings dream...There has to be a happy medium somewhere..What about all the kids from welfare and unemployment families...a champion can be born to any family..it does not matter and they do not have a chance..They can work hard at school..get good marks and put themselves through college and prosper but then they are too old to start a sport. There are also so many parents that have money for extras but choose to spend it on new cars..bigger houses fancy clothes or sometimes drugs and booze.
Hockey and football are much cheaper and often is paid for by fundraisers so a wider group of people can participate.

Regarding Patrick's Esqualo program. He's had this for at least 2 seasons (since 2014) and skated it in The Ice and Carnival on Ice to name a few events.

I remember someone tweeted this link to Patrick while he was touring Canada for the 2014 Canadian Stars on Ice and asked him to share the video with the rest of the cast.

Kurt responded to that tweet a few hours later that day. He said the girl was amazing and hinted at that they were considering using the concept in a show number. Seems like it took them two years to but they finally did. lol

Jeremy is skating that part in the US tour.

I got my avatar from a picture that my friend took at the London SOI. If you are on twitter you can see that she's shared a bunch of pictures under @gonzosgirrl. This was her first time taking pictures of a figure skating event and she did quite well!

ETA: Thanks VarBar for that youtube link, I loved that part of the finale!

Canada's Patrick Chan has eyes set on 2018 Olympics since returning from year-long break (by Jason Hills, Edmonon Journal)

http://edmontonjournal.com/sports/h...olympics-since-returning-from-year-long-break

“I want to one day build one of the best figure skating centres in the world and teach the sport. It’s something I’m very passionate about,”

If future generations can learn his skating skills, then we fans will be in for a real treat in the years to come.

I was at the Edmonton show last night and about 30 seconds into Esqualo I said, "this is structured a lot like a SP". I was not a fan of Mack the Knife but loved what I saw of Esqualo, here's hoping he uses it next season!

Looks like his own elite rink is not ready yet if he is in Joanne's rink.

Well this should make for an interesting summer. I wonder if he will compete at BC SummerSkate? It is held at 8Rinks where he will be training.
