Chantastic....the return of Patrick

Re-posting from the GSD news thread:

Lori Ewing's article: Three-time world champion Patrick Chan to open skating school in Vancouver
“I’m 25, so I have to start looking at: what I want to do after my competitive career, beyond shows, beyond “Stars on Ice?” Where do I want to live? Where do I want to buy my first house?” Chan said. <snip>
“How I can incorporate skating in what I do and what she [Kathy Johnson] does, her theory of movement …” Chan said from Kelowna, where he’s appearing in a “Stars on Ice” show. “Combining both of those I think we can create one of the best programs ever for a figure skater.
“I’ve had so many years of experience watching and understanding how coaching works in figure skating, and I think there’s a lack of theory in figure skating. That’s a great opportunity for Kathy and I to break ground and start something totally different. I think Kathy and I can create something special.”
May 2015 press release about Chan's involvement with The Drummond Club in Richmond, BC: http://www.marketwired.com/press-re...skating-school-coming-richmond-bc-2022374.htm

The Drummond Club is a fantastic job opportunity for Patrick. I had no doubt in my mind he would grab it and relocate to Vancouver. Since he agreed that they would call the new skating school after him, it only makes sense for him to be working there. Patrick's frequent visits to that area last year and this year were another indication of what he was planning to do. Looks like he wants to be already settled down in Vancouver by the time the skating school becomes operational next year. Well, the sooner, the better I guess.

Really excited for Patrick and really happy that he'll be staying in figure skating as a coach after he retires from competition. It's actually the most logical decision he could've made.(y)

Hi everyone,

I'm Vivley, and in case you haven't heard already, I recently created a fan site for Patrick. Please visit pcskatingfan.com and let me know what you think. I'm still building it out, so I welcome your ideas and suggestions.

FYI I did create a link to this forum thread on my site. It's always a pleasure to meet other Chantastic fans, and I hope to get to know you all better (I think I may know some of you already from GS).

Thanks again,

Vivley

While I dont like his chances of future gold medals with the superior jumping ability of Hanyu and Fernandez, I am so glad Chan has continued. His skating skills and flow and line on the ice are still like nobody else. I look forward to thoroughly enjoying his performances and what he comes up with the final 2 seasons of his amateur career, regardless of how many medals he wins.

His programs last year were also astonishing and magnificent, amongst his best ever. In many ways he continues to improve at the age of 26 which is remarkable. What a talent and inspiring champion!

I'm cautiously optimistic that there may be some surprises from Patrick in the next two seasons. It's become increasingly obvious that he is not a consistent skater, and that the top guys have passed him technically. Nonetheless, he did manage top five at worlds and can at least be counted on to get Canada two spots - Nam's meltdown at the last Worlds highlighted the importance of that.

But with pressure now off to some extent, I hope that Patrick can breathe me easily and deliver a few more performances for the ages.

The question is what would be a surprise for Patrick competitively speaking. Would even a bronze medal qualify as that at this point? The elusive Olympic Gold would be Miracle on Ice 2 or atleast Sarah Hughes moment 2 at this rate.

For starters, a clean and perfect skate.

A bronze at Worlds or Olympics would qualify, IMO. Given that Patrick could only manage fifth at Worlds this year, and he could slide further down the ranks due to his inconsistency.
