Chantastic....the return of Patrick

Amazing skate. Only way he could have done better is by changing the second jump in his 3A/2T combo to a 3A/3T to maximize his points. But fantastic job!!! Now he just needs to pair that with the SP from Canadians. (ETA whoops, he can't change the 2t to a 3t because he's already repeated 2 jumps.)

And first time ever that he's done two quads and two 3A in the same program. You CAN teach an 'old' dog new tricks.

H e could....There is lots of room there...he did at least 2 combinations with the 2nd jump being a double...if he turns them to triples ..I cannot see him adding a diff.quad..but you never know.
I believe his current layout for the FP (2x 4T, 2x 3A) is the max difficulty that he can achieve in that segment without adding another quad.

Actually, he can replace his +2T+2Lo with a +1Lo+3S and then replace his solo 3S with a 2A and increase his base value by around a point (that's including 2nd half bonus). But 3 quads and 3 3As (across both programs) combined with his skating skills would be a tough match for anyone.

Claire, what a great tribute to a skater and a program. I love your comments on how the music suits Patrick and his style so well, even making him exceptionally "surefooted," and, perhaps, tells his story.

My only criticism would be that Mishkutenok and Dmitriev's "Liebestraume" is THE most perfect program ever. :)

This thread is awfully quiet.....I am quite pleased with Patrick's marks and placement after last night's short program. Too bad about the axel but otherwise a great skate, very calm, cool & collected, well delivered, great quad-triple! I just want him on the podium Friday.

Patrick's skate last night was great even with the fall on the axel. I predict a battle royale for silver with Fernandez who looks very sharp and hungry. I wouldn't be surprised if the top 3 guys all clear 200 points in the LP.

Well, Patrick has good shot at silver if he skates like 4CC

The ironic thing is this statement was definitely right, but probably not in the way you were thinking, LOL!

Too bad Chan could not have his 4CCs skate here. He would have been back on that podium for sure. Still a very good comeback season. Coming back after 18 months off and in his mid to late 20s is not easy for anyone, and he proved he was still a contender.

He does have to wonder whether it is best to stick with his current jumps or try and add. Right now as things are he not only cant even hope to beat a perfect Hanyu, but as we saw by last nights score he could not possibly beat Fernandez at his very best either. I don't believe his planned base value as it currently is even with 2 4Ts and 2 3axels, which is already more than he has ever done, would beat the scores Hanyu and Fernandez are posting, even in a hypothetical with all 3s for GOE and all 10s for PCS (which obviously doesn't happen for anyone). So does he try and perfect what he is already doing and improve his consistency, and hope for some mistakes, or does he take a huge risk and push his own technical envelope even more?

I just hope Patrick sticks it out till the Olympics. His skills are unmatched and his presentation has become first-class, and I will miss him terribly when he retires. He looked deflated; I hope he regroups. Being selfish here, not at all ready for him to retire.

Patrick knew he couldn't win the competition even with two flawless skates but he certainly eyed the bronze medal even if he didn't say it in so many words and the bronze was perfectly within his reach but he failed, sadly.:( He must feel very discouraged now.

I just watched Fernandez and he was phenomenal in the free skate.

I'm encouraged by the interview they showed with Patrick during last night's gala performances on CBC. I don't think he's going to retire, he seems quite determined to keep going and I'm so happy for that! Yes this worlds did not end as I would have liked it to, but we know he can do it. He just couldn't do it on the night this time around. Looking forward to Stars On Ice!

Watching him skate around during practices was just :swoon:-worthy. Edge quality, rideout out of hard turns and posture are such a rare combination these days. I know his LP was disappointing, especially in light of his good practice session the morning before, but he was SO good at 4CC just a few weeks before. I hope he sticks around until 2018. And maybe gets a real coach while at it
