Chantastic....the return of Patrick

I normally don't entertain Chan's usual long list of complaints, but I thought his complaint about the quality of the ice in his FS was quite justified. There was an actual puddle on that ice.

Totally agree. As a (sort of former) skater, I know that ice quality makes a huge difference in the feel/grip you get of the surface and how fast and confidently you can skate on it. Do a turn into a spin where there are bumps or grooves on the ice, and you can't get the same speed or snap. Worse yet, if your blade hits a rut, you could stumble or fall. Worn out, scraped up ice surfaces feel like "peanut butter ice." Was it Brian Boitano or some announcer who used that term when Stephen Cousins was skating sluggishly as the last skater at worlds back in 1996 or so?

The ice looked better, on TV, for the pairs & ladies free skate. I did not notice the puddle during those events.

The ice was pretty rough by the time Patrick skated and yes, there was a puddle. I wonder if the woman who complained to custumer relations that it was too cold in the arena, finally had her way.

She was in an ice arena for heaven's sake, wear a coat.

Weren't the ice conditions pretty horrible at 4CC due to the Zamboni blade breaking or was that only for the Ice Dance FD?

The ice appeared to be in better shape the next day for the pairs free and ladies free. No puddle that I could see on Saturday, and it was very obvious from where we were sitting on Friday night.

Yes, I was told they brought the temp down in the arena and it seemed that way. Said lady must have been outraged yet again.

I hope to see Patrick compete for many more years, medals or not.

I think there may be pressure for him to compete next season at least, to get spots for 2018. Nam's showing at the WC was dismal, and as of yet, no other man appears ready to step up to the plate.

Canada needs to evaluate its system if instead of producing new stars they are begging old stars like Chan and Virtue & Moir to come out of retirement to save the day. That only works so long. Not that I am not happy to see Chan and V&M compete, I just hope that is what they really want to be doing and not CSA pressure (V&M it atleast seems like they really do want to, Chan I am less sure about).

Canada does not really have a system.....only a small % of Canadians can afford to give their children skating lessons...imagine how small the pool of talent is...Picture how many kids born with a great deal of talent never get anywhere near a pair of skates..never mind an arena.
