It's a complete fallacy that Carol Lane turned W/P down. I can state this with 100% assurance.

In 2014, when G/P were being pushed hard, and, despite Islam's connections in Canada, Paul/Islam were not, the judges couldn't/didn't ignore the blatant differences in skating skills between the two teams, and they sent P/I to the Olympics. (As it turned out, G/P did brilliantly at 4C's and earned the WS championship points to put them in the "later" group at Worlds and had a lucky, late draw within that "later" group, and they edged past P/I, never to be caught again.)
Gilles has made great strides, but with Morozov's coaching and programs, I suspect W/P will be faster and skate with more amplitude, and if they don't make major mistakes, or get screwed on levels (particularly in key points in the SD), I think we will have a repeat of 2014 at Nationals.
I like G/P's programs far more than W/P's, but I don't think the programs themselves will make enough of a difference.

Any info on whether W/P went to Marie-France? Because that seems like utter lunacy to me too. It just makes no sense why they'd try to make such a braindead move.

IMO, given the options, W/P are in the right place.
Although maybe he's not due again until 2022, Morozov was behind Olympic bronze for substandard GrushGons and then for I/K with that completely open "Swan Lake" in Sochi.

I still think W/P should've stayed in DSC. Hawayek/Baker's free is one of the best dances of the season. W/P's free is meh.
Maybe they thought they were losing political standing but...it's gone now anyway.

Even if Carol Lane did turn down W/P, it makes sense. She already has one top Canadian team and seems to be loyal to G/P. It doesn't even make much sense as a coaching move for W/P. Nor does trying D/L.

I still firmly believe that if Paul had stayed with Vanessa Crone, they could've a) been truly innovative in a way that G&P keep trying to achieve with their more avant-garde programs, but never quite getting there and b) earned the success that Paul clearly craves faster and likely at a higher rank. Quite frankly, I'm never going to be a G&P fan because not only do I think Piper's skating skills are still sub-par compared to the top ranking teams in the world, but in my mind, I will always wish it was still C&P.

Where I think the opposite: Crone's posture was lacking, and she doesn't have half of Piper's performance ability.

People - can we please get over it! Vanessa Crone is long-ago history at this point. Disliking a current team (or their coach) because of what you believe happened in the past is not very productive. Why not judge any team based on what they are doing on the ice now?
There are a limited number of top dance coaching locales available and many of them already have one or two or more high level teams. When W & P decided to make a move away from Detroit, their options were quite limited. They made their choice and are trying to make the best of it.
The GPF is about to begin and there is only 1 CDN ice dance team in it so, if you're going to use any national "bias" you'd better cheer for them

Disagree. Crone had time to work on her posture as they were still quite a young team, and IMO, the rest of her skating skills were already beyond Piper's as they are now. As for performance ability, I've never really seen the supposedly versatile/awesome "performance ability" people claim Piper possesses. I'm an actor and a drama teacher, and if I were her coach, I'd hire someone to give her (both her and Paul, actually) some lessons in differentiating facial expressions, to start with.

I have no idea but they have several competitors so maybe they did not. Apparently they went to Marina but her vision of what they should be did not jive with what they wanted to be so they left. It seems like desperation led them to Morozov.
I totally agree. A) Her posture was not as bad as some make it out to be; and B) I am quite sure she would have improved her posture in the three years it took Piper to achieve anything approaching senior level skating.
I recall, years ago the same comments being made about Meryl Davis's posture. I guess Meryl's OG proves it was fixable.
There was this thought that Paul was so amazing he could do no wrong. So whether it was hers or not, Crone took most of the blame when things were off.

Vanessa had so much personality she sparkled on the ice. Her love and joy of skating came out everytime she performed. Your eyes never left her to look at Paul.She was the one who made Carol Lane seem to be a great coach and choreographer.

O dear. That is terrible news for them. Certainly the end to the season, and no university games this year. But they are a young, developing team with a great training centre behind them and good vibe about them. They can build for next season. Sincere best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
Morozov is definitely not their desperation move, he was their first choice actually... Morozov has been approached by Pasquale and Anjelica and been asked to help them with WP at last years' Europeans, WP left to New Jersey and then to France to Morozov's training camp right after they finished touring with SOI, they really didn't had any time at their hands to go to Marina, or anyone else. Back then I thought they are just doing choreography with him, but apparently there was more into it. Plus, as far as I know they didn't planned to leave DSC at the beginning, Morozov was supposed to be an over summer thing, but then things changed.. they are very very happy to work with him.

Come on... I can't think Morosov would be anyone's first choice after worlds last year... He had no teams, and one of the most promising, exciting recent teams missed out on a world medal and broke up on his watch in 2014.
I have no idea what transpired, but I'd put money on that educated guess.
Well known, top coach without any other teams and without any other interest in ice dance is a PERFECT choice for WP right now. They are not ready to give up, they are set to fight for their positions, and for that they need a coach that would give them his 100% and Morozov does that . I seriously doubt that WP would be interested to be in a big group, being their coaches priority #.. after their main competition at this point of their career. They are happy they went there, they are happy with Morozov, and that's the most important thing right now.
I really hate how TSL made it look like WP desperately wanted to find a new coach, no matter who, just to make them look bad.

Yeaaahh, I don't believe that Angelika and Pasquale told their only top team to go to another coach. I don't care what kind of spin W/P try to put on this.
I choose to believe to Morozov and WP themselves rather than some wild rumors from shady sources. And yes, a good coach would let their students go, when it's needed. It's not about P&A egos, it's about WP reaching the most out of their skating

I agree with Barbarfan.... I don't connect with Piper and Paul at all and a tango program is the way to hide lack of connection ... as much as I would like to love them, something is missing and I just don't get why people get all excited about them. Nothing close to Tessa and Scott or Weaver Poje.

A lot of people are just repeating what Piper and Paul but especially Carol Lane is tweeting and blabbing on national TV irregardless of other teams it hurts. It's called dirty politicking...Now judges will be ...we cannot give them an 8 becuz they get high 9's. Do our cdn judges have the balls to score them properly at nationals? That really is the question.

Haven' t heard directly or seen anything from W/P about how anything came about...Morozov said in an interview that it was Anjelica or Pasquale who approached him in the summer about W/P. There were several sightings on them at Canton and after there were sightings after at Morozovs rink in the US. Long story short they are thriving training with Morozov. They look terrific and even though their programs are really new and will grow during the season they are fantastic now.
Fingers crossed that the teams are all marked fairly.
At the interview Morozov said that Pasquale first approached him at Europeans, when Morozov was there with Amodio, so it was last January.. I guess nothing was decided back then, but Morozov was clearly one of the main people they considered

nowadays they do amazing things with plates pins screws and cadaver chips to stabilize and strengthen this type of injury. One of those bones is the one that takes your entire weight so no weight on the leg at all...However limited physio will start day after surgery if not before especially if he is an athlete. It is going to be a tremendously rough 48 hours so thinking about him a lot. Once he gets through that it is all up to him
