Ashley Wagner Cheer Thread #3: The Subject of Tonight's Lecture...

I think its safe to say Ashley woulda been the highest scored American woman here...

Just makes me think how shady and Untrustworthy judges and judges scoring still is and most likely will always be....

As much as I do love the other USA ladies here at The Olys... there was NO reason to have lowballed Ashley they way the judges did... well, guess those judges can eat crow.

Bradie does deserve her Nats title.. and I MOSTLY feel like Mirai deserved the silver (lets keep it real she did have mistakes) but to NOT have Ash in at least 3rd at Nats..... well now those USA judges can see how skaters get scored in the real world....

I don't think it's safe to say at all given the way she had been skating all season and what Raf said about how her training had been going. I mean even if she skated better than the other ladies, I see her placing like 9th at best...maybe 7th. It's not like Karen never beat Ashley "in the real world". It's easy to say she would have done phenomenally or well when she's not here actually competing. She has had her fair share of bad performances and bombs as well.

Karen beat Ashley once outside of Nationals. Helsinki Worlds where the difference was 5.75 points and that's with Karen rotating 6 triples to Ashley's 4 in the FS (with the fourth being her 3z with an edge call, so essentially 3 clean triples). Not to mention Ashley's PCS has remained substantially higher than Karen's internationally.

At Nationals this year, Ashley was arguably better technically than Karen, but missed out on the podium because the USFSA judges saw fit to dump her by keeping her PCS flat and inflating the top 3's PCS (which did not translate internationally). Given how much stronger Ashley looked by Nationals as compared to the fall events, its pretty safe to say that with another month of training, top 6 would have been realistic. The USFSA dropped the ball here.

So I full on admit that I am Instagram stalking but I’ve noticed that Ashley and Adam are conspicuously missing from each other’s instagrams. Ashley isn’t even liking his posts. I wonder if Adams new found fame has caused a strain on their friendship. That would break my heart if that’s the case. Hopefully I’m just reading too much into it.

Ashley seemed fine talking about Adam in the first part of this 7-minute video: http://www.accessonline.com/videos/...the-stands-i-felt-my-heart-rip-from-my-chest/

Olympic figure skater Ashley Wagner joins Access Live's Natalie Morales and Kit Hoover to share her experience traveling to Pyeongchang as a Team USA first alternate after she failed to clinch a spot on the team this year. Plus, she dishes on her time at the 2018 Winter Games as Access' exclusive vlogger and gave her thoughts on Adam Rippon becoming a breakout sensation at the 2018 Winter Olympics!
She also enjoyed discussing her "bobsled Olympic alternate" boyfriend.

Re: DWTS - I never got to see/ won't get to see people like Joannie and V & M there because Canadian. I'd LUV to see Ashley, I think she'd be quite interesting. But they'll prolly pick someone who went to this Olys. :( Too bad she didn't get the gig in '14 or '16.

(OT: But I re-watched some of Meryl's dances today, and OMG she could've been a pro dancer.)

I tend to agree with you. Ashley has always been the dominant power in this relationship and Adam has to a certain degree, had to "dance to Ashley's tune". I think that she may have played a negative influence during the prior Olympic cycle that precluded Adam from being truly successful. The power relationship has shifted and she's just not used to that.

Or, you know, Adam could be an adult with agency who is responsible for his own successes and failures.

Kelly on many occasions including a speech she gave in Greensboro has said, " Adam's successes and/or failures are his own". She has obviously told him that this is the way things go.

Her excitement to talk about Adam seemed pretty genuine. I don’t think we need to read too much into whether they’re on each other’s IG. Obviously there hasn’t been much chance of them meeting up recently because first, Adam was competing at the Olympics while Ashley was doing Toyota sponsorship stuff, then as soon as they got back they’ve been busy with different media commitments. I didn’t really follow them closely back then, but how much did we seem them together immediately after Sochi when Ashley was in the post Olympic media storm?

I bet as soon as Stars on Ice kicks off we’ll see them back to usual antics together lol.

So despite what she said in her interviews, Ashley is no longer following Adam on Instagram and hasn’t liked or commented on any of his photos in several weeks, something which she used to do regularly. Personally, I think she’s putting on a front in interviews. I think there’s a rift there. Normally she would be all over things like him being on the Ellen show or at least liking his photos. The fact that there’s been nothing throughout the games or post other than mentions in an interview says to me something is up which makes me very sad. Looks like he’s replaced Ashley with Mirai now.

I remember in a couple of her IG stories during the Olympics she was (humorously) calling Adam out for not responding to her texts and video calls. I don’t really want to speculate too much though. If there is an issue I hope they can work it out with some time and space. All friendships need room to breathe sometimes.

Yes, let's just leave that topic alone. It is the cheer thread after all. :) I loved her look at the Vanity Fair party the other night (posted on her instagram). Are any of you going to Stars on Ice? I'd like to see Ashley again, but I'm not sure because good tickets are $$$.

I think Adam and Ashley are just very busy with their respective commitments. For Adam especially it's a whole new world opening up for him as the 'break out' star (at least for Americans!) at the Olympics. I'm sure they still Facetime, etc. and keep in touch. It may bother her at some level that it seems to be 'Adam and Mirai' in the public eye but I'm sure she can shrug it off. It's just for this year and eventually the hoopla will calm down.

I splurged for tickets! I wouldn't miss this year's Olympic team, as well as Ashley and all of the other stars for the world! I've never been able to go to their competitions so this is really the only chance I'll have to see most of them on the ice where I live!

Ashley just posted on her IG story that she’s leaving LA and looks to be headed on vacation. I think it’s pretty safe to say she’s not training as an alternate for Worlds at this point. So either she knows for a fact all three ladies are going or she plans to pass on a spot even if given to her

"Former Olympian Ashley Wagner visited the program on Tuesday to talk to and take questions from some of its participants, ranging from fifth-graders to 11th-graders, at Riverbank State Park, one of the few public rinks in New York City." Article by Kavitha A. Davidson | Mar 7, 2018: http://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/ar...idence-future-expanding-access-figure-skating
Nice article!

It does make it sound like she might be done with competing... Or maybe I'm reading too much into this vague-ish paragraph:
So what's next for Ashley Wagner? Future skating isn't out of the question -- she's set to appear in the upcoming "Stars on Ice," a touring figure skating show -- and she's planning on assisting her legendary coach, Rafael Arutyunyan, who counts among his protégés Michelle Kwan, Sasha Cohen, Rippon and Nathan Chen. Beyond that, she sees media and TV in her future. Along the way, however, she expects to continue to be involved with programs like Figure Skating in Harlem, to continue to cultivate the sport from a developmental level and find talent where others might not think to look for it.
