I think a large part of Alysa's joy in her comeback is being able to control all aspects of her skating which probably includes her costume, so at this point I hope she keeps her long skirt as long as she loves it.

I agree, I must admit I do love the maturity and artistry that she shares now, The juniors are great and fun to watch but little girls jumping and spinning is different.

I think that the fact that she now controls her coaching team without the interference of Papa Liu is paramount. The fact that he yanked her team before the Olympics and yet she still excelled,gives credence to her strength and resilience.

Oh, I don’t mind it at all, I asked I’m so glad she didn’t do the typical figure skating bun. So many figure skaters look exactly like each other from the hairstyle to the costume. I like it when someone dares to stand out… Like it’s something you shouldn’t do. So I’m very appreciative of her skirt length And just looking a bit different than the cookie cutter.

Please remember that the reason he yanked her to a different arena was to get her in a safe environment because he felt they were actual threats to her.
As far as skating parents goes, he probably was not one of the worst ever. he might not have been the best, but we’ve seen a lot worse. And the fact that she was easy easily able to walk away when she did proves it imho.
Seriously the papa Liu slander is too much. If he really was that crazy, would he have let Alysa walk away right after a world bronze medal and with a great shot at more (the Russians being banned)? Or let her do some of the stuff she posted on instagram (urban exploration in particular)?

IIRC, it was tense and papa was running out of money. Yes, she could have made some money from shows and competitions, but a minor’s travel expenses are 2x those of an adult and that might have negated any financial gains.

I think that’s a typo for “where.” But there were credible threats from Chinese agents, targeting her to get back at him. He had a lot of concerns about her competing in China at all.

No idea where that came from. Probably some TSL rumor. The only tense I heard about was how poorly he handled communication about the spying thing and the move to CS - but maybe he was paranoid about being wiretapped or otherwise. Can't be paranoid enough when the CCP is coming to your house and hiring people to harass you on the phone.
And yes, finances were likely tight. They are for many skaters - and I'd imagine they're even tighter for a single Dad with other kids to raise. But we've seen plenty of crazy skating parents make even bigger sacrifices to keep their kid in the sport regardless of the child's wishes because winning is important.

I kind of understand what you’re saying, but let’s just celebrate the fact it’s not a warhorse, something interesting … because it really hasn’t been done before and she’s mixing up her hair and her dresses so at the moment I am all in because it’s different.

No idea how she got that triple salchow up in the air in the 2nd triple triple combination at the end. There’s no speed at all. I’m sure there’s an under rotation or downgrade. I’ll go look at the protocols but I’m just impressed she was able to do that. She must be able to do these jumps off the ice and on the ground with no problem at all.
