I hope she keeps skating because seriously her talent and work ethic are unlimited if her body can hold out. She's not an actress but she creates a character and is a technical pathbreaker. I will be amazed if she can stick around for another quad but I hope there will be at least another season or two. Do we even know what she wants to do in the future? I guess we'll be finding out in the post-Oly interviews.

I am not very fan of her style and program but this kid came to do her thing like a master, congrats!!! :cheer2:

Did she move her combination?
Yes, she did the lutz but couldn't tack on the loop at the start of the second half. So she just added the 3lo to her solo lutz.later. No biggie (for her). :D

She did. The lutz was slightly off, so she added in the loop later. You just cannot add a loop onto a shaky jump like you can eke out a toeloop.

Congrats for the win! No doubting her skills, and I hope she continues to compete, and works to improve her maturity and use of her arms, because IMO while she's not yet quite the 'full package', she definitely has the potential to get there. Her technical abilities are remarkable!

She needs a coach that gets her gold medals and she already has it, the cuddles she can get them at home and from the other coaches.

Its good to have a coach who shapes you into an amazing skater but its also even better to have one that is both an excellent coach and one that supports you equally. She can't just go home and get hugs she's away from her parents.

Dick Button:

Zagitova is a Ballerina on the ice. Same quality as Ludmillia Protopopov

Zagitova She did her jumps in the second half, why complain when those are the rules, they give extra points

There was the Battle of the Brians, Battle of the Carmens now we have the Battle of the Russians

Never thought I would see Dick live long enough to praise a Russian ladies skater.:lol::lol:

Congratulations to Alina on this powerful performance! In all honesty, she is not the Russian lady I rooted for, but she clearly had a technical edge over everyone else today, and the judges seem to support her in terms of PCS, so good for her.
I'll be surprised if she doesn't retire, but if she doesn't, I'd be happy to see something more appropriate to her style than balletic programs, perhaps something edgy and modern that does not require gracefulness and fluid movement but would benefit from energy and athleticism.

In the press conference per @rockerskating tweets, all three medalists said they will be going to Worlds. Both Med and Zags named Kostner as their role model because of her dedication to the sport and ability to stay competitive for so long. Zags also named Yuzu as a legend and role model. She said she wants to continue skating and keep the momentum going though she isn't sure she'll be able to have a career as successful as Kostner's. https://twitter.com/rockerskating/s...share|twsrc^m5|twgr^email|twcon^7046|twterm^2

There is more but I'm waiting for pieces by people who know skating. The NY Times writers seem to prefer Med and see Alina as the clever technician who worked the system. But they praise her as well.

An interestingly inaccurate writeup at Time. (Who knew Mirai was planning a nine-triple program? No wonder she conked out.) Hope they fix the mistakes eventually.

I didn't see Brian with Hanyu when Hanyu won. He was with Javier since Javier was getting his scores.

Who says coach isn't supportive? If Alina had gone last coach would have been with her.

First interview after win: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdz5TKcNJG8&t=0s
My Russian is very basic but here's the gist (corrections welcome!):
-Do you believe you are Olympic champion?
-Not yet, because I just got off the ice and I don't have my medal yet so I don't feel it.
-Your mother should be in the stadium, did she congratulate you yet, what were the emotions?
-I still haven't seen her, she hasn't congratulated me because I had to come down here to speak to you right away
(phone rings)
I haven't really looked at my phone but of course there are congratulations.
-(about Evgenia) you are friends
-We congratulated each other, we have very warm relations.
(Something about things they can talk about when their coaches are not there...?)
-(He wants to know why she's not smiling a lot)
-I don't know how to say, probably I just want to hold everything inside until I realized, I need time.

A lot of background noise on this one, a translation would be appreciated!

In another era when complete package matters, Medvedeva would have won, but then again maybe neither of them would.

Under the current system, Alina definitely deserved to win. She took that title by force. She was everything that Tara wasn't in Nagano. Her jumps were of much higher quality and she's the type of girl that would cut you in the alley if you don't watch out for her. Did you see her trying to run everyone down in the warm-up?

I thought Alina vs. Evgenia was the right result.

It will hit her soon enough. I hope she gets a good agent who screens all the offers and invitations, as well as a financial advisor, so there's no repeat of the craziness that happened to Baiul.

I'm sure she will have to deal with a lot but she looks to be made of something different than Oksana and Tara. She looked ready to kill people out there to get what she wants. I wouldn't worry about people taking advantage of her, I would be more worried for the people around her.

You're probably not being serious. If you are, that's ridiculous. She lives in a skating bubble (like Med). She is not some kind of street smart tough with razors in her hair.

Haha, you are too much. She's 15, she's not even a woman yet. But you can see it in her eyes, don't mess with that girl.

Congratulations to Alina! She totally has my admiration for what she’s accomplished in this sport and the way she’s pushed the technical envelope. Congrats to all of her happy fans!

It’s been an awesome Olympics with another epic event to close out figure skating. Alina and Evgenia definitely lived up to the hype!

Congrats to Alina! She is a competitor and sure to be a Russian star.

Does anyone have links to venue ceremony and medal ceremony?

It was heartbreaking to see Med. to be so dominant and be undercut at the very end is killer. At least Michelle had a year under her belt with Tara.
