All of Adelina's news saddens me. I mean I guess she will always have Russians on her side, but if she had just won the proper medal last year her support would be more universal. There would be no doubts or controversy about her, and she could have maybe won GP this season and been world champion next month. None of it is her fault and she can't be criticized, but shame on crooked grown adults who did a great disservice to her career and put her in a situation where she will face these questions her whole life.

While it is hard to say what damage the OGM ends up doing to her future in the sport I think this year she was just too injured and now it is too late to legitimately be put on a strong Russian team who have skated well all year and earned their spots even if she could be really ready (which is unlikely anyway). I think we might see her back next season, maybe even on the fall grand prix. We will see. Like all Russians she has a battle on hands with their depth though. Next year will be even tougher for the girls in Russia than this was I am pretty sure.

I hope if Adelina doesn't skate at worlds (which I highly doubt she will, and I am not sure she would even be given the option at this point) and she does skate next season, I hope she uses the same 2 programs she was planning to use this season. I heard they are quite good, and I would like to see them in the fall.

If she rejoins the Russian figure skating force later this year she will have to prover herself to her federation and to the world. The judges decided, however fair or not, that she won, so be it. Life must go on and there will be a next Olympics.

As a fan of hers, I disagree. Your view is awfully short-sighted. Ever hear of a deal with the devil? Sometimes you get what you want in a way you absolutely don't want to get it. The Olympics did nothing for her career except end it in controversy as a really talented but unpolished skater. No other major international medals. A night that should have been nothing but positive for her and been received with universal acclaim, instead gets reduced to doubt and having to answer questions for the rest of her life. If you think otherwise, that there's anything good about any of that, you're delusional.

I don't know. Adelina is getting a ton of opportunities in Russia--magazine features, TV shows, this dancing with the stars show. Its not like she didn't get anything out of her OGM. I'm sure she's enjoying it all--she seems far more comfortable in the spotlight than Lip. On the other hand, we know she's aware that many didnt agree with her win because she has talked about wanting to prove herself as a skater. It's a mixed bag I guess. Yes her career has probably been cut short by Sochi. But there's no guarantee Adelina would have won much in the future even if Sochi hadn't happened. There's a lot of competition out there.

Me too!! Especially after not being selected for the team event. She could have let that disappointment get to her but instead she used that anger as a weapon and came out ON FIRE :EVILLE:. Now she has a gold medal she DOESN'T have to share with 9 other people :p
And nothing anyone can say will tarnish this gold medal win for me, absolutely nothing :cheer2: What's the saying? "shake them haters off" ;)

Very true. She seems to be settling nicely into her post competition life, and it is a better one than she would have enjoyed without the gold, controversy or not.

Finally got around to watching this and our girl looks great so far. Crazy ass camera work and hanging butterflies made it a little hard to see all the dance, but what I did see was great!!! :cheer2:One of the best if not THE best costume she's ever had :saint:

Oh and the live music was great and I generally hate all live music but here it was something special!!!

Diva alert, Irina Viner is one of the Judges. For those don't know her, she is the coach of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Team and also the wife of Alisher Usmanov, the richest man in Russia.

And the blonde judge is Gleb's wife, Elena. Lol :D

Just because she's not agree with the way Adelina won doesn't mean she's a Yunabot. I love Adelina and I neither agree.
On another point, she looks great in DWTS , I'm not really into these dance shows but I liked this one :cheer2:.
Also is great to see Viner there, anyone could translate what she said about her performance? She's a big deal in RG

Thank you. Not everyone who disagrees with her win is a "Yunabot".
People have a right to their opinion and I am one of those that don' think Adelina deserved to win. In my opinion, she won for 2 reasons: It was in Russia and Yulia fecked up. She was extremely lucky she skated after Yulia in both segments of the competiton.

Not agreeing is one thing but I wouldn't post about it in the uber thread to keep the peace and because there are a million other threads in which to discuss the Olympic result and it would nice if her fans (and/or people who thought she deserved it) could have just this one place to talk about her without having to justify her win.

I agree. It is not fair to call every single person who disagrees with Sochi a Yu Na bot (not to mention it must get tiring given the huge number). Especialy since that would make the vast majority of skating fans and experts worldwide Yu Na bots, as like it or not, most disagreed with the Sochi result. However this should not be brought up in a Sotnikova fan thread which should be for her fans to celebrate her and only positive things be said. There are a thousand of other threads for those who want to complain about Sochi and it shouldn't be done in her fan thread, the one place where her fans should feel they can be totally left in peace.

I agree with your sentiment about not posting hate in uber threads; however, I didn't post anything hateful. One can be a fan of Adelina's (as I've been since before the Olympics) and understand that the whole thing was negative for her career, and maybe herself personally. Ultimately, the medals are worthless and I think a true fan would care more about the process of a skater becoming the best skater and person they can possibly be. Did the Olympics do that for her? Really? Before Sochi she was a talented, promising skater needing a little more work but with a bright career in front of her (in my opinion). She went immediately from that to her career being over. The end. No other major titles, no more competition programs for everyone to see, no going out on top at the height of her abilities as the best skater she could possibly be. Nothing. Just a 17 year old girl who herself gave it her all and delivered, but whose well-being was sacrificed when shady, corrupt, grown adults USED her to further their own agendas. If someone thinks it was all worth it, that she gets her 15 minutes of fame, money, dancing gigs, whatever, well that's why I said it's a deal with the devil. The questions will just follow her all throughout life. Will she go around thumbing her nose at the world and trying to overcompensate and prove herself to doubters? Will she develop a complex where she can't handle criticism, because of this incident? And she distances herself from anyone who isn't completely 100% on her side at all times? The fallout from Sochi can go much beyond the skating world, just ask Oksana Baiul. If anything, that's where I'll be rooting for Adelina the most -- off the ice. She's still young, and I hope she'll grow into a mature well-rounded woman, and be able to separate her outstanding performance from the value of the medals and just focus on that

And btw, whose to say how Adelina's career might have turned out otherwise? Maybe over the next several seasons she would have kept getting better and better. Maybe she would have become world champion. Maybe she would have won OGM in 2018 without controversy. All of that would have been preferable, of course.

I'm seeing flashes of artistic :swoon: on DWTS, I hope we see a more mature Adelina on the ice in competition because the reality is she hasn't even accomplished 50% of what she could do artistically in skating. She's naturally fluid and has great performance instincts, I think out of all the Russian ladies she still shows the most promise in interpretive ability.

And yet it can be done without Je Suis Malade. Please. :scream: We get it, you're sick and you say it a bunch of times and then crash into the boards at the end to prevent pneumonia (the despair). Take a damn DayQuil and then please take a nap.

That is all cool if you think all that, but you posted that many times in 100 different threads. Couldn't you just post it in the other 99, and leave Adelina's uber thread in piece to people who want to be positive about her, and not rehash if she deserved to win Sochi.
