2026 Europeans - Women Free Skate - "You Can Leave Your Splat On"

I remember when they used to have real flags. But everything has to be AI these days, I guess...
They had a contraption set up earlier in the week which looked like it was intended to hang flags from but then it disappeared so not sure if there was a hitch and the e-flags were plan B?

Yes, Baiul 1994 was the first time I heard the Ukrainian anthem, made all the more memorable by the fact that they inexplicably didn't have it ready even though she was the reigning world champion.

I remember being pretty familiar with the Ukrainian anthem in the early-mid 90s between rewatching skating and gymnastics (the off-season was real back then!) I’d love a good reason to hear it again.

Euros spots for next season

3 spots: BEL, ITA

2 spots: EST, GEO, SUI, POL, FIN

ETA: after a cursory glance through JGP standings, here’s some notable skaters who will be senior eligible next season: Gurgenidze for GEO and Kaljuvere for EST.

Well this was a blah fest for the most part. Niina and Julia were the highlights for me. The judges/tech did what they could to pump up the event with really lenient calling and big GOE to some elements that were barely completed.

If someone who was completely unfamiliar with Moulin Rouge watched a bunch of skating programs to the music, I wonder what they would think it was about. 🤔

I've never seen it and I have seen MANY programs. Here's what I got:

There's a prostitute played by Nicole Kidman. I assume she's named Roxanne. She wants to fly away but also she loves diamonds. A creepy dude (pimp, I assume?) is obsessed with her and doesn't want her to put on her red light, and presumably wants her to sleep with him instead. Ewan McGregor is also in love with her but has no money. They can't be together. They will love each other until their dying day, which, for her, is very soon since she dies. Probably of consumption because she's a prostitute, and that's a thing.

If you choose the Broadway score instead, a lot of the songs are wrong, because they couldn't get the rights to some things, including Queen, and also possibly an attempt to be more modern. And they sing Bad Romance for no reason, but I do love Aaron Tveit.

(Is Hendrickx’s first name really pronounced “Luna”? So is that just commentary on crack?
It is. Luna like the moon in Italian. Her Belgian fans have confirmed this to me.

Re: Karhunen´s jump technique: she has the same coach than Janna Jyrkinen had in the beginning of her career, Marina Shirshova (who happens to be Efimova´s mother).
OTH, Olivia Lisko and Linnea Ceder are coached by Virpi Horttana, Lepistö´s coach. You can see the technical similarities of the skating clubs and coaches.
