I want to hate the Russians-as-Georgians pair, but Damn, this is the level I’d like to see all senior pairs skating at.
I will say, red camel toe is not my favorite costume.

They are at least 50% more Georgian than Smart/Dieck are Spanish (for example), but who cares..

Wow, if that was skated as perfectly as the Georgians, I’d give it to the Japanese pair for the insanity of skating to “Paint it Black” at that sustained speed. THIS SKATE FEELS LIKE A SUSTAINED ANXIETY ATTACK. Much more expressive, but the missed jump, le sigh.

Miura/Kihara incredible speed, but she wasn't quite over her feet today. Besides the jump error she even had a stumble on the transition out of the combination spin.

I totally agree that the Japanese team is overrated. They lucked out at skating well when pairs were pretty dismal for two years, but the Georgians and Germans (and I don't mean Hocke/Kunkle) are much better.

They lucked out in 2023 with a home Worlds, otherwise they wouldn't have beaten KniFraz for their first World title. And without that first World title, I question whether or not they would have beaten MiNiki in Boston last spring.

Yes he did. It's always her. Must be SO frustrating for her and HIM! Will this be Ryuichi's 4th Olympics and he still does not have a partner as good as he is? I don't want to sound mean to her but, oh my gosh, it's certainly become a pattern for them.

The frenetic pace doesn't help them look finished, but there is more choreography and connection to the music in the Japanese pairs program, imo.

Minor point but I’d love to see Riku in a much more severe costume for this Paint It Black program, like something all black and with long sleeves, slightly goth even. i think it would enhance the mood of the program even more.

M/K had it all over M/B in the closing step seq IMO, but I like both teams’ programs a lot.

For everyone saying the Italians I think they were always an outside shot at a medal. I think C/M got VERY lucky with NHK which was not the best skated and not the hardest field.

If I had to place bets right now, I'm going with the Germany, Japan, and Georgia in that order. I do love the fact that all of a sudden, pairs is looking really good.

I like when we see the base score, the GOE and the resulting score. I think it makes it easier to explain to folks who will tune into the Olympics who have no idea how skating is scored.
