2025 Skate America location/dates

Well at least it won't be Thanksgiving weekend this time if true. I'm looking into Cape Air if it's there. The planes are small but only takes 2 hours from JFK as opposed to 7+ on bus. Then an Uber or Taxi from the airport.

Sadly my wish for Baltimore is out, there is an event at the CFG Bank Arena that Friday.

Out of curiosity I looked at their planes yesterday and there’s no way in hell I’d ever get in one of those.

I'm voting for Skate America in Vegas, as I plan to be retired by then and it's close. Not gonna go to LP from California though.

The ISU just announced new dates for Skate America: Nov 14-16.

This will overlap with the Eastern Sectional Singles Final in Charleston, SC and be offset one day from the start of the Midwestern Sectional Singles and U.S. Pairs Final in Lansing, MI.

For whatever that's worth.

SLC is out. Maverik Center has a concert scheduled for Nov 13th & Delta Center has a concert scheduled for Nov 15th.

That leaves Las Vegas or Lake Placid, if the rumors are accurate - nothing seems booked at the Orleans or in LP during the new week.

Unless the USFS is working to shift those dates around...

There is always a conflict between GP events and these Sectionals/Finals events. I doubt they will change them because of Skate America. Or any other GP.

Herb Brooks Arena (also known as 1980 Rink) is part of Lake Placid Olympic Center.

(p.s. The bus from Albany bus terminal to LP takes about 3.5 to 4 hrs, IIRC? It makes many stops in between.
I have been a bus passenger four times each way. Not my favorite travel experience, but I don't mind it too much.
IMO, the biggest inconvenience is that the town no longer allows the bus from Albany to stop at Olympic Center. Meaning that I must then take the town's free trolley service to get to a hotel close to Olympic Center. Unless things have changed drastically in the last nine months, Lyft and Uber are not options within Lake Placid [ETA: at least in my experience].)

... I doubt they will change them because of Skate America. ...

I highly doubt that USFS would change the schedule for sectionals and pairs final.

I've flown into Albany and taken the bus to LP - but definitely not in the winter. There's one going each way daily.

IIRC, in 2017 they had SA in LP over Thanksgiving weekend. In 2009, SA was in LP the second weekend of Nov (the week after I broke my leg, although I didn't have SA tix anyway).

Yes, it was an unusually late SKAM in 2017 when last in LP. Convenient for me as I was already in Upstate to visit family for Thanksgiving. I remember Pat Lipinski in attendance that year, so that she, Tara, and family could have Thanksgiving together despite Tara’s work obligation.

I have a memory of the tickets being quite cheap at least, like $35 for good seats and two events.

But no doubt the trip from Albany to LP is a semi mountainous ~2 hour drive that could be absolutely gorgeous scenically or a blizzarding lake effect snow nightmare.

The ISU just announced new dates for Skate America: Nov 14-16. This may be why USFS didn't already announce the venue--because they were waiting on this. Skate America and GP France are switching places on the GP schedule this fall.
